    The 'Wild Bunch' is *such* a good film. I remember watching when I was young and being just blown away by the grittiness and the hard-edge at a time when there was still so much romance in the Wild West. Obviously Leone should get the credit for establishing a new school of cinematic realism rather than mythology in that genre.

    • @hrfardan66
      @hrfardan66 Před 3 lety +4

      Sam Peckinpah was around a lot longer than Leone. The crap in the Spaghetti westerns was far from realistic.

    • @morelenmir
      @morelenmir Před 3 lety +4

      @@hrfardan66 Yes and no... There was certainly a form of romance in Leone and the pistols and rifles he used were very anachronistic in most cases. However compare his vision of the West with almost everything that went before other other than perhaps 'High Noon' and 'Shane' and a couple of others... He was revolutionary.
      But as you say Peckinpah had been making movies since the early sixties and worked in television before that--I think 'Ride the High Country' was his first? Without a doubt he and Leone both deserve a great deal of credit for the revolution they bring to the genre with their differing but often similar styles.
      Which isn't to say I don't enjoy the classic Western either of course! There is a time and a place for all.

    As I recall, Armand Swenson was one of the first 1911 custom IPSC gunsmiths. He was one of, if not the first to attach a S&W rear sight assembly to a 1911. He used a titanium screw from a helicopter to prevent shearing the rear sight retention screw. Another custom smith solved that problem by drilling threw the rear sight assembly and then leaving the drill bit in place. His blending that drill bit / anti-shear pin was amazing, almost non discernible.

    Looks like a sound piece for a customizing project. Like back in the day of Austin Berliet, Jim Clarke, and Armand Swenson when the GI 1911s were so prolific and taken for granted as beaters and truck guns.

    I've added a bunch of Wilson Combat parts to my Kimber 1911 and so far every one has required file fitting. The main spring housing was fairly easy, just time consuming. I used a cylinder reamer for the inside of the barrel bushing and a lathe for the outside. Even the thumb safety and mag release had to be worked some with a file before they functioned correctly. I prefer match parts over mil-spec for the tighter, smoother, more custom finishes. If I were using a 1911 as an EDC I'd go mil-spec for reliability.

    I love vertical slide serrations and the old spur hammer, especially the wide spur. I had a 1927 Argentine model with a wide spur hammer and checkered arched mainspring housing. Beautiful. I've got those hands though, the kind that get eaten by any 1911 without a beavertail. Can hardly shoot a hi power at all. Get slide bite from Glocks a little.

    Nice! My first carry pistol was a Ballester-Molina, made in Argentina in 1929. It was what I could afford at the time. The upper part is a 1911 clone with some parts even being interchangeable. The sights are similarly an afterthought. But it works - every single time.
    I used it to confront some wannabe gangbangers who were trying to break into my house at 2 a.m. one morning. They didn't know I was home. They thought it was just my wife and 2 little kids. When I slipped out the back door and came around front and up behind them, when they turned around and were looking down that barrel, one of them wet himself.
