Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
Carried one as a crew chief on Chinooks, 1968-69, saved me three times. Love your videos.
Where were you at, I arrived in Can Tho in 1970 and am a 67U20?
@@kendurham2493 Ist 6 months at Red Beach then moved to Bearcat. Ist Cav. Did you train at Ft. Eustis?
@@danaustin3885 I was at Ft Eustis for AIT and then went through the leadership school SDB program offered there, I was from South West Virginia and it kept me close to home a little longer. Last 6 weeks in Viet Nam I was charge of quarters and carried a 1911, never had a reason to fire it.
@@kendurham2493 Thank you for your service
Dan Wesson 1911's are high quality for sure. Very sweet and accurate shooters!
Listening to you shoot guns is one of the most relaxing things in the world.
Absolutely
Never, ever had a slide lock issue with my Great-Uncle's US Army Colt Model of 1911 (made in 1918) using GI magazines since he gave it to me in 1968.
WAY COOL way to honor your Great Uncle! GOD BLESS AMERICA :)
Magazines are usually the main culprit when the slide fails to lock back.
Never had a slide issue with my Guardian. Not sure what the issue is.
@@johnmacri7440 the issue is a known issue among the Guardian and the vigil. Dan wesson builds to stupid tight tolerances and in the case of the guardian they anodize the aluminum frame and coat the slide stop in what's known as their "duty coat". Long story short, tolerance stacking can occur where the buildup of duty coat AND the anodizing is enough to cause the slide lock to bind up a tad, causing intermitten slide lock issues, or (if it's bad enough) never allowing the slide to lock back. the fix is to replace the mag catch or simply use some 0000 steel woold and polish up the catch to wear down the duty coat just a little and create clearance
Watching the bullets arch towards that gong is so cool!
First time I've seen that on here. Awesome 👌
I came for the gong and stayed for the arching bullets.
Freaking amazing!
Guns akimbo It’s from the bong great movie
boo•let’s
Yes thank you! Seeing those slow 45s moving down range with the zoomed frame to the Kong is really cool
I love my Dan Wesson Guardian ❤️ That was VERY cool watching those rounds lob onto the gong.
I like 45acp, it was the gun I leaned on in the service. There was a little problem with the 1911's that I don't care for but learned to live with , but with my own I've got it just the way I like it. CZ 97, and a couple extra rounds.
Beautiful pistol. Love the 1911’s, they never let you down. Specially the old ones.🇺🇸🦅👍
*1AM at Japan*
Me:Time to sleep...
*hickok upload a new video*
Also Me:Who needs sleep anyway?
Sleep is seriously overrated, right :-) Greets from the Netherlands, T.
I had the same slide lock issues with my specialist. Switched to stiffer mag springs from Wilson combat and never had another problem.
Dan Wessons have some of the sweetest triggers of any gun Thanks for sharing 👍
I love that pistol, and your enthusiasm, it's not even my gun and the slide locks pissing ME off!
Hickok45, it's because of you I decided to enroll in SDI and I start next month in October on the 4th. So thank you for your videos in inspiring me to go in this next fun chapter of life.
Congratulations! We certainly need more good gunsmiths in the world.
I just heard Christmas Carols for a sec there.
😄
If you sent this back to Dan Wesson and the problem is still there, that tells me a lot about Dan Wesson.
Recently bought a 1911. Extremely fun to shoot and customize. After a long break in period it’s reliable with FMJ. Hollow points….not so much.
Try a Wilson Combat mag and different JHPs.
@@northernninety7 It’ll run 230g hollow points fairly reliably. I run Wilson, Chip McCormick and Sig mags…all have anti-tilt followers. It’s just a normal 1911 thing. Fun to shoot but I wouldn’t carry it for defense with hollow points.
Dan wesson slide stops tend to have issues hold open on the last round. My wife's vigil commander she bought a month ago wouldn't hold any mag back period. I Ended up polishing the slide stop where the plunger contacts the rear of the slide stop and fixed it 100%. I haven't had an issue since. Sad when you have to do that on a $1300+ semi custom 1911.
I've read many others say the same thing. They use a thick finish and it needs to be thinned out or removed on the slide stop to work most the time.
That's a beautiful slim looking Dan Wesson 45, sweet 👌. It sells it's self just the appearance and style alone. Looks like a perfect fit for the shooter.
When you've had a bad day and get home to find out there is a new hickok45 video chapter 2, then life is good.
Как мне нравится этот парень! 👍 А от 1911 я вообще в улёте. Самый легендарный пистолет в мире. Привет из Москвы!
I LIKE THIS.... ALWAYS LOOKING FORWARD FOR UR NEXT VIDEO... BLESSINGS.... 👍🙏
Hickok do you ever miss ? I'm gonna count how many hits you make vrrsus misses . Love your vids and your good nature and all the valuable knowledge and safety i struction . May the sun rise to meet you..
Ohh man, that 1911is a truly treasure🤩 God bless John Browning!
3:37 he's making fun of them like they aren't smart enough to know what it means lol
1911 - Continually malfunctions even after a trip back to manufacturer
Internet - This is awesome great firearm!
(I too, love 1911's)
It's all depends on the manufacturer.
Un reliable except 4 range fun.
@@walterwilliams268 100%. I have a 1911, albeit 1/4 the price of this DW. I bought it for carry, to shoot it more and to shoot my nicer ones less. It ended up being a range toy. I could sell it but in good conscience I will not unload those problems to someone else. Unless of course they want a project gun and I take a loss.
That slide looks so buttery smooth.
.45 ACP, pure Americana
As well as the 1911 handgun
I thought their revolvers had one of the most beautiful finishes
That's a nice pistol right there
I found that Ed brown ,magazines work well and it locks back at the end of shooting the good old 45
Seeing the bullet travel downrange is really cool
Indeed
Surprising to learn that, after being sent back to Dan Wesson for repair, the costly weapon continued to have slide lock-back problems.
Expensive range toy.
Having the same problem with my new DW. Only very occasionally the first session, every time tonight. We WILL work through this. Love everything else about it.
Hickok widda 45 gotta love it
Hickok, I always watched your videos growing up as a kid. I probably haven’t tuned in for about 10 years now but I here I am 24 years and somehow get “life is good” stuck in my head after a trip to the range. Hope all is well, thank you for being a staple in my childhood entertainment.. and of course hooking me on Glock.
Love my Guardian for sure and my Valor. Both have been trouble free from day 1.
I would love to have a Dan Wesson 1911 in my collection.
My favorite pistol 1911
Mr Hickok, never get tired of a 1911 video, got a few myself. The issue w/ not locking on last rnd, is a nagging issue for you & would be for me to. Knowing your commitment to the 1911 & Perfection (see that glock reference) I know you will get it taken care of! Hoping you and yours are well, GOD BLESS AMERICA :)
The Guardian in 45ACP is my primary CCW as well. I cannot ever remember having a hiccup since day one…been 8 years or so.
It’s been through a few classes of 3-500 rounds each!
I have kimber, colt and Les Baer 1911's and have not experienced problems with any of them. I have had good luck running the 8 round Kimber Pro Tac mags. Keep them well lubricated.
That's a sweet piece and seeing those rounds arch towards the gong was awesome. I'd love to have this one!
I'd put a new slide stop in there and see if that don't cure your issue. I've had a Guardian for 5 or 6 years with zero issues.
Too nice to malfunction that much!
Thanks buddy, ACLDN Member!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Dan Wesson Razorback has had to go back twice
That's a nice good looking 45 1911. I saw it and I said "it's small " then I remember your height...anyway I like it 👌
"The .45s quicker than the 409"
I would think Dan Wesson would be embarrassed to see you shooting one of their firearms that continues to malfunction using their factory original magazines.
I my years past of gun trading, buying, collecting I owned three or maybe four Dan Wesson model 15 v2 357 magnum revolvers I consider some of the best hand guns made. in my not large collection I was think of adding one permanently but they are so stupidly high now there unreachable to the average working man. there wonderful but not1100 plus dollars worth. I wish colt would bring back the diamond back 38 special because the used ones are out of reach also. nana and papa aka the hunter from the foothills of the blue ridge mountains in North Carolina wishing you well. Good video
I always love the burning barrel, and how the ashes fly around and the smoke is going the whole shoot ...
Never stop Hickok 45!
Let us know when and if you’re ever coming back to good’ol Virginia
I have an SW1911SC and it only likes Wilson 7 round mags. It will occasionally lock back using Kimber 8 rounders. I just carry with 7 rounders like I did my Gov’t Model back in the ‘90’s.🙄
Love that pistol! Love the .45 acp as well
God bless all here.
Hickok is still a really good shot. 😀👍
I've implored Dan Wesson to offer this in .357 Sig. My personal idea of perfection.
Chambered in .357 muzzle blast
@@JohnMaxGriffin That's my point really. The bullet's the same as elsewhere in the 9mm and .38 categories, but it's the deterrent factor of the .357 Sig's much bigger, in fact enormous muzzle blast, a hell of a surprise to anyone expecting a normal pistol response.
Hickok- Just use Wilson 47D mags. They fix 99% of lock back issues. Also, you can install Wolff magazine springs (for Wilson 47D) into McCormack/Ed Brown/Dan Wesson style mags, and that can fix the issue.
Since all these mags work in all my other 1911's, I don't think I'm going to mess with my magazines; I'll just get this Dan WEsson to a good gunsmith and get IT fixed.
@@hickok45 Shouldn't you should try to get DW to take it in again and figure it out or give a replacement ? Make a sequal on this gun so we can follow along and find dthe issue. That would be interesting instead of just knocking down soda bottles.
M1911 guardian legendary fire
I guess this is his carry for formal occasoons in a nice leather holster.
Thank you for sharing your awesome shooting skills.
4:50 that is awesome to see
I would not be happy either with the slide not holding open. Especially since it was sent back for service and it occurs sporadically with different mags. I too have a 1911 that was meant for carry but has become a range toy. In good conscience I can't sell it to friends or family.
Coolest grandpa in the world? Heck yea!
Thank's man ! When the truth is spoke and the people just like Bydon will not here it and l get so pissed off ! l just come walking up to your compound and l see and best part hear the sound of those bullet's hit those target's ! lt all go's away !
Paying that much money for a Dan Wesson shouldn't be having lock back problome expecially after sending it in once already paying for the name...
Paid for the name 4 sure. Un-reliable. Is it US made or Czech ?
It’s probably the magazine I feel like Dan Wesson made them cheaper if they retail for 20 a pop just like kimber mags are shit best bet is to get Wilson combat
@@Oiluis18 he used a Variety of mags not just dan wesson ones and they all were having issues with locking it back. Seems like something going on in the frame. Not magazine
@@matttodd5049 looked like same or same brand mag . Mine only ever had one not lock back, mag went bye bye just cause that one.Every other mag, DW,WC, Checkmate, Cobra have worked every time in mine anyway. So short a bad slide release it’s a mag problem.
i see the 9mm barely able to move limbs on the Christmas tree - but this 45 ACP, dang!
Thanks Sir. Beautiful 1911!
The way you shoot you should be in the military💯 u dont miss fr
Stir the fire
What a beautiful gun
Дед,как хирург работает избирательно только первый скальпелем,а дед пистолетом выбирает очередную жертву в виде мишени, так попробую положить барана или по свинье.Браво Хиккок!!!.
The empty magazine “issue” might be a “magazine issue”. It’s happened to me. It would be great if this pistol was available.
0:16 Thought he was about to play the theme for Mission Impossible lol
Awesome video. Love watching your videos. Been here like 12-13 years. You rock man. Awesome dan wesson, and as always the shooting was on point lol
You sure do have great patience. For as much as those things cost if I sent it back and they still didn’t fix the issue I’d be PO’ed
His aim bro 🔥🔥🔥
You suspect but I'm betting to that it's the magaxines. I had a similar problem. Tweaked the follower on a cpl and they started working but I had to give away the others
Except all these magazines work fine in every other 1911 I have. That makes it a gun issue.
@@hickok45 Could be the lever itself is too rounded off for some of the followers to engage properly? My 1911 is over 30 years old and I've shot it a ton and I recently replaced my slide lock and it sure locks with authority now. I picked up a Wilson
Appreciated
Adversary (for your friends here in West Virginia) "revenuers". ;-)
That's a beauty for sure
World wars. 2 of em.
Someone on a 1911 forum said put an empty mag in and see if you can lock the gun back. If yes see if you have a shock buffer in the gun. I don’t know what that is but Dan Wesson will. That is the issue. Also stick to the manufacturer mags that may be a solution
Ive had the same final round slide lock problem with my Colt Combat Commander. Wilson Combat mags are the only mags I’ve found that consistently lock it back on the final round. Pretty much any mag that uses the Chip McCormack type metal follower will not lock it back.
Try installing Wolff springs (for Wilson 47D 8 Rd.) into your McCormack mags. It fixed the problem in mine.
Cobra mags work well in mine.
Wilson makes great magazines.
Try Sig 1911 magazines….$30 and they have an anti-tilt follower too.
Chip McCormick makes magazines with the anti-tilt follower too. The original power mags don’t have that feature.
Chip McCormick makes magazines with the anti-tilt follower too. The original power mags don’t have that feature.
If you were returning a gun to an individual with over 6mil subscribers on CZcams, you might wanna test fire it more than a few times. Slide lock issue seems more than occasional.
It should be a standard regardless of sub or not it should be about company value not just giving it to people with a following when your already paying 2k and up for a Dan wesson
Yep, everybody deserves the very best service possible.
I had a Colt Officer Series 80. I got rid of it because of malfunctions. It was picky about ammo. Mil spec 230 ball is about all it would feed and the slightest magazine ware caused problems. That when I went to a Sig.
@@larry648 Sig designed their magazines right. Very tight fit and they have anti-tilt followers, extremely important if you plan on shooting hollow points.
Great shooting I have a DW 44 mag bobble action Clint Eastwood style great gun
Here!
Dan Wesson = the man
I’m driving through Tennessee right now I wish I could stop by and have fun at ur range
Way to come out HOT!
Very attractive weapon
could slide lock back issue be due to certain mags?
I have a kimber 1911, one cool firearm
Have a Guardian in 38 Super. It really is a super gun.
Nice shooting
A 45 ACP is great but that leads us to the next question: What comes next? ANSWER: A SLUGFEST!
Is there anything better than a .45 1911 ? Me thinks not
A 50 cal.👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@josephsteaphens474 hmmm. Sorry. Ima lover of the .50. But the .45 has defended America for over 100 years now. 1911 is the American handgun.
I don't own a gun, probably never need to... But damn this ASMR video makes me rethink
*bang bang bang bang, pew pew pew*
I have never seen a video of yours that I didn't like and cannot understand how you get any dislikes at all. That being said, Godspeed, friends. Keep plinking.
$1,500 it should function flawlessly.
