      Thanks! I did retopologize the hair and beard on this one but I decided to cut it out of this video series since most people don't watch the retopology videos I make haha, I'm not very good at it and it's boring which I totally understand haha 😅

    hi. really enjoyed this series of videos, thank you for posting them.
    i have tried your processes and all great until i select mask brush to add beard (m). in sculpt mode my mask brush behaves nothing like yours .... i'm confused. is this just the way you have your mask brush settings? ...... mine makes a vague transparent area that i have to keep going over ..... must need adjusting but no idea. i'm using the latest blender and wondered if it is different. cheers for now

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před rokem +1

      Yeah no worries Steve, I'm glad if they helped. Oh yes, you can adjust the strength of the mask up at the top so that it's 1.0, that should make it deeper, rather than the default 0.5.

    Good work sir im big fan
    I have question
    I can use voxol remsher alone or must retpolgey both?

  • @prodbyANT
    @prodbyANT Před 3 lety +1

    Is there a way to do a beard like this but with a mesh I made with a cube (didn't sculpt it)? I tried to take my object into Sculpt Mode but none of the brushes do anything, especially not the mask brush.

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah you can, you'll need to voxel remesh your cube though in order to sculpt it, it will be too low poly for any of the sculpting brushes to have any affect.

  • @AyeshaMiniKhan
    @AyeshaMiniKhan Před 4 měsíci

    Hi, Well taught, but my problem is that the beard doesn't work with the shape keys of the face, what is the solution?

    the mirror doesnt do anything when i mirror the objects. what do i do to fix this?

  • @phenzphenz
    @phenzphenz Před 3 lety +1

    I imported a model of a character from a game into blender and the mask brush seems to have no effect on it whatsoever. What should I do to fix this?

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 3 lety +1

      Does it have any modifiers on it? Modifiers like the mirror modifier make the mask brush not visible. You either have yo disable the mirror modifier, apply it, or remove it, then the mask brush will appear.

    • @phenzphenz
      @phenzphenz Před 3 lety +1

      @@RussellMidfield I removed the mirror modifiers and it still doesnt seem to work. The brush does appear yet whenever I extract the mask it doesn't create a new mesh.

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 3 lety +1

      Hmm, so nothing happens at all when you select Extract Mesh?

    • @phenzphenz
      @phenzphenz Před 3 lety +1

      @@RussellMidfield I notice under the scene collection it says that there is a mesh, yet there isnt anything visible except a small thin line.

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 3 lety +1

      Hmm OK so a mesh is being generated, it's just not at all the shape you are masking. Is the model a high poly sculpt or has it been retopologized to a low poly version?

  • @necroticer

    how do you define the color of the extracted beard ie? I cant find it

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 7 měsíci

      Oh its been a while, I think I just used the basic principle BSDF, or maybe vertex paint

    • @necroticer
      @necroticer Před 7 měsíci

      @@RussellMidfield just to be sure, while masking the form of the beard, and then using the mask extract, the new mesh has a different color. Directly after using the extract option

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 7 měsíci

      Oh ok yeah you may need to redefine the color in the shader editor

    +1 Subscribed. Not that is how you do a tutorial. How are you getting the colored objects? I tried the Viewport properties, but couldn't get it to work. Lot's of new videos to watch, Thanks for your hard work.

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks Charles! Oh yes, just go up to the top right corner of the 3d viewport where the four different spheres are for the different viewport shading modes, and go to Solid mode. Then click on the little drop-down arrow at the end of this row of four spheres. Click on "Studio" lighting, and then click on "Random" in the color section. Hope that helps!

      @@RussellMidfield It reminds of Polypaint in ZBrush which is a feature I love. 3d-coat has the same type thing and I like to use that sometimes. Can't wait for the video, every one I've watched, I've picked up something new. Really, really good job on those.
