Also yeah I'm gonna agree with you on her pretending to not notice Kensou's feelings. Heck in SNK Heroines Luong straight calls her out on it for not trying to be honest with him and possibly not being honest with her own feelings. Sure in a franchise with no aging there's no pressure, but she's gotta be honest with Kensou sometime in the future.
Some sources refer to classic Athena's heavenly kingdom as Kingdom of Victory. Athena also seems to summon/embody the classic version of the character in a super in SNK Vs Capcom: Match of the Millennium for the NGPC. Also, both the KoF: KYO manga and the animated KoF Destiny series, (and maybe the Athena - Awakening from the Ordinary Life game) depict her as having some ability to read minds... which added to everything else kinda makes her seriously overpowered.

Many hate Athena because of her magical girl shenanigans during online matches (the same way they hate Ryu in SF2 for spamming Hado kens). But as a character, she is a lovely person. Why would anybody hate her for that?You also made an interesting point about her idol career getting in the way of her romantic life. It actually makes sense.

I just found your channel after I did a deep dive on nostalgia and started playing old KOF games during lockdown. I always loved some of the characters, but to hear this much of their background was really nice! Thank you for the videos.
Athena is one of my most favorite KOF characters, only next to K'. I do like her combination use of psychic powers and Kung-Fu. I also love her backstory as a reincarnation of the Goddess Athena, really wish that her story in KOF has a lot more than we got, and it is too bad that the KOF series dropped the Dragon Powers/Ron plot very quickly for some reason, I really wish they can continue with that plot. Also Momoko should make a return too. Also, did you know that there is a horror game from SNK that is also starring Athena as a main lead? I heard it is not a good game, but I wouldn't mind if SNK explore this concept once again.
Athena the awakening (ps1) but sorry for non japanese, theres no english version for that game. its rpg game with intresting story for athena awakening physic power that enemy loves to use her power for evil purpose.

I think their psycho powers, Especially since Athena is the reincarnation of the goddess Athena, has a gene that keeps her young and for some reason, younger as each year goes by? I guess to help her keep fighting while Orochi keeps reviving itself. Creating the perfect guardian. Almost sounds like my character..... with a few differences.

As a fan of the old Athena/Psycho Soldier arcade games, but a newcomer to KOF, it delights me to learn Athena has been getting regular lore updates for 30 years.
Thanks to the Terry in Smash, I’m sitting down and watching all your lore vids. Sure I did play KoF 99 ages ago and at least know the characters’ names, but not so much their stories. And with that spiffy new Psycho Soldier song in Smash, decided to watch Athena first.

One of my mains in the KoF series (Mai, Yuri, Leona, and Terry are the others), she is always my first pick when I play any KoF games I have (the whole 2D saga on PS2, from 94-03, XI, Neowave, 98 UM, and 02 UM. 94 I have via Rebout, 99-01 I have via the Japanese Nests Saga collection, 95-97 via the Japanese Orochi Hen collection). The rare time I play KoF XIII, and I do mean rare as I don't like it all that much, she is my first choice. I also tend to pick Hotaru for Garou MotW and KoF XI, and Akari from Last Blade 1 and 2. They both tend to be solid fighters for little girls, I almost feel like they are both overpowered to a degree. Good to see a video on her.
There was an Arcade followup to Athena called, Psycho Soldier where Kensu is introduced. It played differently to the original but its where the "Psycho Soldier " theme tune originated.
Probably the 2nd most famous kof character next to iori both of them have been ported to different games mobile legends for example she is the epic skin variant of the hero guinevere which coincedentally have identical move set Psychoball Phoenix arrow and her super move
Her chubby baby face in xiii (which I dislike btw) was apparently a reference to her original appearance in her old action game. Tho good thing she returned to normal in xv
That was left in the past sadly... This might not matter but have a theory that it must have been because that was in a "non Snk" game: Kof 01. So when Snk returned to function they just made their own thing and ignored ideas from those games. That also must explain why they didnt want to utilize at first the tremendous innovations from Kof 02 in their new games, when they began the Ash Saga (Kof 03). They preferred to reinvent the whole gameplay instead (Tag system) of following the lead of huge gameplay innovations made by another them while they were out of business. (Eventually they turned all that around and ended up using Kof 02's style for Kof Xiii, but it could have been because Tag wasnt popular)

Thanks to the Terry in Smash, I’m sitting down and watching all your lore vids. Sure I did play KoF 99 ages ago and at least know the characters’ names, but not so much their stories. And with that spiffy new Psycho Soldier song in Smash, decided to watch Athena first.

One of my mains in the KoF series (Mai, Yuri, Leona, and Terry are the others), she is always my first pick when I play any KoF games I have (the whole 2D saga on PS2, from 94-03, XI, Neowave, 98 UM, and 02 UM. 94 I have via Rebout, 99-01 I have via the Japanese Nests Saga collection, 95-97 via the Japanese Orochi Hen collection). The rare time I play KoF XIII, and I do mean rare as I don't like it all that much, she is my first choice. I also tend to pick Hotaru for Garou MotW and KoF XI, and Akari from Last Blade 1 and 2. They both tend to be solid fighters for little girls, I almost feel like they are both overpowered to a degree.

There was an Arcade followup to Athena called, Psycho Soldier where Kensu is introduced. It played differently to the original but its where the "Psycho Soldier " theme tune originated.

Probably the 2nd most famous kof character next to iori both of them have been ported to different games mobile legends for example she is the epic skin variant of the hero guinevere which coincedentally have identical move set

Guinevere was created out of Athena Asamiya so, they can release the skin as her.
It might not be be canon, but in the new manga about KoF XIV, Athena can do psychometry, mass teleport, and read other people's mind albeit limited.
Her chubby baby face in xiii (which I dislike btw) was apparently a reference to her original appearance in her old action game. Tho good thing she returned to normal in xv

He is still interested, he is only waiting for Sie to furhter cultivate that power until it becomes strong enough for him to steal.
That was left in the past sadly...
This might not matter but have a theory that it must have been because that was in a "non Snk" game: Kof 01. So when Snk returned to function they just made their own thing and ignored ideas from those games. That also must explain why they didnt want to utilize at first the tremendous innovations from Kof 02 in their new games, when they began the Ash Saga (Kof 03). They preferred to reinvent the whole gameplay instead (Tag system) of following the lead of huge gameplay innovations made by another them while they were out of business. (Eventually they turned all that around and ended up using Kof 02's style for Kof Xiii, but it could have been because Tag wasnt popular)
