Just bought the se version because I have NO IDEA what they’re about so I didn’t want to spend a fortune. (Tbh I couldn’t even justify buying one, I just wanted one)
Figured I’d buy one just to track my mileage as I need to lose a lot of weight.
Arrived today so I investigated what I can use it for and discovered geocaching.
Never heard of it before !
However, this will definitely make me get out there for walks instead of boring circuits round the block near my house.
Yes, I could do it with my phone, but the online gives a pin on a map and I could zoom in and know exactly where to head.
With the SE, I’ll make sure I don’t consult a map, and I’ll navigate with the SE instead,
Initially, I thought the lack of maps on the SE would be a hindrance, but for geocaching, it adds to the adventure.
It’s 1:15 am btw, I’ve just discovered geocaching, checked my area and there’s loads of spots and I can’t wait to get out there.
I usually hate walking and distract myself with headphones and podcasts or music. I see the walking as a chore.
Now I’ll see it as a bit of an adventure,
    There’s a cache 63 metres from my house…. WHO KNEW !
    Haha

Great vid..... all I need is to mark a spot and get back to it so the SE would be great

I use the GPSMAP67 ( which I bought from you) it’s incredibly accurate for geocaching, even better you can set an alert when you get within a certain distance from the cache so you don’t even need to keep looking at it. I fasten it to my rucksack and when the alert goes off I know I’m near to it 👍

I went looking for my first Geocache two weeks ago in Scotland. Was up the top of Ben Nevis it was just after 8am , weather was perfect conditions and was the only one up there, with my 67 I downloaded the nearby Geocaches to my 67 and went searching for the Geocache on the summit which is at the top of the CMD Arete path. Was great fun going searching in the boulder field for it. The 67 was spot on to the location finding it. Only time I've ever gone looking for a Geocache. Loving the 67 I got from you guys. Have you had the new 5.90 software update for yours come yet?

Yes, we are now updating units to the latest software - 5.90, it does not seem to have changed much for UK users, more for US users downloading maps.

@@ukgpstraining yes I think the biggest change was for the Rinex feature but I never use that. I was hoping they'd have updated the software so editing a way point doesn't take so long to load. Quite a common issue on the GPSRCHIVE forum so hopefully Garmin will sort it soon. Also if they add a battery percentage to the battery would be good. I've downloaded the battery widget off the IQ store that's great gives you battery percentage, and how long the battery will last etc.

The eTrex SE performs excellently. The only thing I don't like is that after the firmware update is completed, it restarts and gets stuck in a loop of redownloading the firmware when syncing with my phone.

What about the GPSMAP 66 model with AA battery? I absolute hate that lithium battery can not be replaced on those GPSMAP models.

Many thanks for your thoughts. As the 66s was discontinued a number of years ago now this is why we don't include it in our review of current units.
