    I bought one of these from an early recommendation video you did. It’s so simple to use. I had never used a gps device before so I am really happy with the unit . And an excellent price too. It’s very lightweight . I love the backtrack feature too . Maps your route and very clearly reroutes you home. Thanks for the video .

    Brilliant John! A great walk and talk. Started my GPS journey with the Etrex 10 on Ben Nevis. Great unit at the time. This replacement at that price and battery life is a winner. ATB mate

      Many thanks for your kind words, they are appreciated.
      I also started many years ago with a Garmin eTrex H (the unit before the eTrex 10, but very similar). It rook me a number of months to work out how to change it to give me a grid reference, how my life has changed LOL!

    Great video. I loved the intro to the eTrex device and all the fantastic scenery. I just upgraded my eTrex legend that I bought in 2008. That one still works great, but I wanted something that could work with my mobile phone. Such a great device for a great price.

    Thank you for doing the video - I've just ordered one of these (from you naturally). Here's my 2p worth on OS maps: I go walking regularly but I wouldn't call myself a hiker, because it's mainly routes I'm familiar with, but I think it's mostly about having at least one backup plan - so if I were a long walk somewhere I'm not familiar with, if I'm being sensible I will have purchased the local OS map and either bring the paper copy and/or use the digital code to download it to the OS maps app as well, so I have at least one offline map I can look at, and then keep my phone or the paper map in the dry in my pocket/bag. It doesn't really feel worth it to me paying for a bigger/heavier device which uses batteries more quickly and still isn't (in my opinion) quite as good as viewing the OS map on the phone. Also Garmin deserve credit for sticking with AA batteries. It's less wasteful because they're easier to recharge and ultimately recycle than li-ion, they're cheap so you can carry spares or buy them from a shop in an emergency. This seems to have a whole bunch of powerful hidden features - like Tracback to retrace your footsteps, many of the "trip computer" data items like ETA, time moving, stopped time, moving speed, max speed, time to sunrise/sunset (that one is quite useful for photography) - if you can do any of this stuff on a phone I haven't really seen anyone talking about it before, and presumably it would eat battery. I was in two minds about getting one of these until I learnt about the trip computer - it felt otherwise like it might be a bit of a gimmick, but actually I think it should be really useful and fun. You questioned why anyone would want expedition mode - perhaps for cruises or other long journeys over several days, where you're moving but not necessarily walking or cycling yourself? Then you can just leave it running and track your position every few minutes, and later look back and find out exactly where you were at a set time. Again this is quite useful for photography where you're using a "proper" camera but which doesn't have built in GPS, so you could compare the time of the photo on the camera with the eTrex data and work out precisely where you were when you took the data (and you can then manually add this into the metadata for any photos you upload to Flickr etc.) Plus, it occurred to me I can record the exact location and heading I use when I take a photo so I can return there weeks or months later and set the camera or tripod up in an identical position. A couple of things I was wondering: the manual doesn't specify what unit options it supports, can it do knots as well as miles/kilometers? Also how long can it be turned off for and retain a "warm start"? I read somewhere else the satellite data maybe lasts for about 4 hours? Anyway, excited to try it out...

      Hi thank you for your order it is much appreciated, as part of your purchase you will receive access to all of our Online Training course videos which hopefully you will find helpful.
      To answer your questions:
      The unit of measure can be set as Statute Miles, Kilometres, Yards, Nautical (nm,ft.) or Nautical (nm,m)
      Windspeed for weather data that comes from paired phone can be set as mph, kph, kt or m/s
      Regarding a warm start with the new generation GNSS units this does not seem to matter and we normally achieve a full satellite lock under a minute with clear view of the sky.
      We hope this helps and that you enjoy using your new unit, thanks again for your purchase.

    Great video as always. I still see your videos about eTrex 32x whenever I am confused about something. One correction though! BEIDOU is not Indian Satellite / GPS system, It's Chinese. Indian GPS system is NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation). It's not widely used as of now but slowly getting there.

    Great video Jon, really informative and nicely presented. Do you find when you import a GPX file into Explore that you lose all your waypoints on the course? When I do I lose my compass bearings etc, it’s just not as good as importing directly from your website as shown in this video. I have trouble with both my handheld and my watch.

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  Před rokem

      Yes, when you do as I show in this video you do lose all your waypoints. What I am actually doing is creating a route then converting it into a course.

    He realizado la prueba de grabación de actividad del mismo camino y distancia uno con registro en método por SEGUNDO y el otro es el INTELIGENTE. Resultado fue que grabación por segundo arrojó 3258 puntos y en inteligente arrojó 558 puntos. Pero revisando todo el trayecto en el mapa, la marca de dibujo, si está todo bien grabado, preciso por la carretera no a perdido señal, no está cortado y todo está perfecto, mi duda es cual usar para más confianza porque ambos han grabado bien no veo diferencia en el TRAZADO sólo los puntos en el camino.

    • @ukgpstraining

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  Před 5 měsíci +1

      You could use this unit in a city to do a backtrack, the unit would not connect to a Garmin Glo 2, but the SE gives you a more accurate position fix than the Glo 2 would give you.

    I have uploaded a course using the OS route app online, which has the brilliant facility of 'snapping' to the nearest footpath, bridleway, track, etc, if you plot two waypoints - rather than a straight line. This reduces the effort of inputting intermediate waypoints massively, and makes for a simpler GPS display. But haven't tried irl yet. Are there going to be problems when I do?! (Mine is the solar, but i think they are v. similar to the one your video.) Thanks

    Hi John,
    First of all, thank you for the channel. It has great information for nobies like me.
    I'm looking for a gps to use in off-road hikings in Portugal and i'm considering Garmin etrex SE or Etrex 22x. Both have the same price and the battery duration is not relevant because i'm planning to use it in 1 day long hikes. I now that 22x as base maps to all countries road but the SE is recent and supports more GPS protocols. Based on that what is your recommendation?
    Thank you!
