The facelifted Volkswagen Polo has gone on sale in South Africa and it's an important model, with the factory in the Eastern Cape supplying both the Polo and GTI for local consumption and export.
With a stellar sales success in SA, expectations of this new model are high. Our video guy Ciro de Siena gets to grips with what's changed, what's new and whether this is still the compact hatchback to buy.

It's a Polo no matter the price people are still going to buy it
Being from Kariega, I have so much respect for people whom I know who work there, and who have worked there in the past. And, mind you, we take this factory for granted on the daily. You should see the parking lot, mind blowing!!
What’s up with the parking lot
I am happy VW took note of thier units dethroning Toyota Quantums on the accident charts 😂
Informative, but your regular style videos are far better. This came across as an ad, and that's not appealing at all.
Yes the Polo is built here but sells for about 60k cheaper in Aus across the range at current exchange rate shipped to the other side of the planet. Crazy.
Crazy !!!
The Polo deserves this format of a review. Its like reviewing bread 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I feel like we now deserve a polo vivo facelift... just as VW did in 2018! New Polo, New Polo Vivo
Thank you for the content. I definitely learnt something new😎. Love the polo, even drove the life that VW had for R422k but the price put me off. This life drives better than the previous comfort-line model for me.
At least in SA it’s the GTI that’s close to half a million. In Namibia, the Polo R Line DSG is R480k! I’m wondering how much the GTI will cost when it arrives here.
Top of range Polo is R480k
GTI is here in Namibia. $570 000
Same price! The R line package is around the 480k mark.. Gti with all the bells and whistles, you looking at +600k🤷♂️
@@sduduzozulu2229 sheeesh, it’s crazy man.
@@maxlodewyk_na crazy times we living under!
This video is actually about a car that is expensive and all the reasons why it deserves to be expensive, and the alternative is a car that is also expensive for a car that has no safety features at all
Nailed it 😂
Great review. I have ordered one in the UK, purple r-line dsg. Ordered it over Christmas and may get it in July but more likely Aug/Sept I think. Looking forward to it as have a 2013 dsg 1.4 TSI golf that I love.
This was a pleasure to watch 👌🏿
I love your reviews, so informative 👍
I bought a Life end December, best value for money. It just delivers
The polo is now truly expensive. Haikhona
Yes please. I would also like a coffee mug. It looks pretty cool. What a great review by the way. Think I'm gonna shop me one of those T Shirts as well. And maybe a hat too 😅👌
Base model is around R7k p/m on 0% residual over 5 years..then insurance is usually close to R2k, then fuel..yoh
Imagine bro… You’re better off getting something a class higher like a golf but from 2017 or 18. Like i’m looking at buying my first car and i’m blessed to have some help from my mother and she said why not get this car. And i was like i can get a 2016 m135i with low miles for this plus insurance.
@@bubufumar That is actually true. The used car market is definitely appearing attractive at this point. All the best with the car hunting!
You will end paying 10k, mind you, you have rent, food and all. 🙇🏻
@@bubufumar buy a 2018..2litre...dont ever buy this crap
@@bubufumar you want to get a m1 from 2016 as your first car?
You really need someone to sit down with you and give you some serious advice about car ownership.
If you want something that will give you respect (respect at work, respect at parties, respect at malls), then a used 320i in a flashy colour will do the trick. 320i is disproportionately more reliable than most bmw models (and a lot more reliable than a used M1) and will earn you more respect than an M1. and whatever fast driving you think you will be doing in an M1, the 320i will also be just as good for someone of your skill level.
If you specifically want a hatchback that looks sporty and is fast on the road, then just get a 2015 or 2016 Mazda 3 Estina, high trim Suzuki swift, or a 1.6L Polo TSi.
If you own a gun, you can also buy a used Golf GTI. Parts for a GTi are slightly pricey for a young guy, but it won't become an unreliable mess that is going to force you to constantly call tow trucks like a used M1 will. M series cars are just toys that you will only be keeping for a few months before selling it off again.
Also, you guys should maybe do a giveaway sometime, love your content!
Great video! Thank You! I would REALLY appreciate a review on the New Polo Sedan. Thanks!
The front bumper probably makes up most of this car's price, coz it costs R100k to replace them. Ask some of Jozi's peeps. Front bumper theft is the new black
Hey man, is it true these cars including the polo GTi have software issues?
The past 2 Generations were turned into VIVOs...So given the history and success story, it's safe to say i'll have to wait until this Polo 6 (Yes, not Polo 8 fellow township South Africas) becomes a VIVO then, cause WOW! That's alot of Mandelas to part with.
Mpolaye 🤣🤣 I still call it a 8
The problem is these Vivos are removed a lot of things you’d find on the Polos, a whole lot of things
I wouldn't touch it with that engine, it's the reason VW still only offers a 3 yr warranty. They don't have confidence in their mechanical durability.
Been driving it for 6 years, the 3cylinder still pushing, now sitting at 190k kilos
Love the coffee mugs, maybe add the sentimental pics right just like the shirts. It would be great
Will that polo gap a Ford ranger wildtrak 2.0 2020 model??
I’m convinced Ciro lives within 5-10minute walk from me coz I’ve seen a few videos they filmed in my neighbourhood 😂
Hi Sir. Please can do you do a review of the Hyundai Creta Grande 2022 1.5l diesel
This is a breeze to drive. I love everything about it.
Well it's my favorite vehicle search website, so yes, I would love one.
That's to say, if you don't overcharge us 🤔
Been driving this, it has comfy ride quality and adaptive cruise control works great. Software infotainment screens have quite a few bugs though.
More Value for Money Options Available. High Insurance Premiums, with Sell Buy Date's ( High Labour/Parts Rates ), Poor Service Levels ( Dealership Level ).
R350 000, taking the above into Consideration, I will Opt for the Coffee Mug Instead..
Yes, that cup is perfect for the office
Yes I would buy the mug. I have bought the VW G7 GTI T-Shirt
And non Sowf Efreecans will now be wondering wat the hell is Mrs Balls🤣 ...keep up the great reviews please
I'd rather buy an Haval Jolion if I have 350-400k to spend. I do like that all new Polos come with the virtual cockpit as standard. Like Apple with its iPhone, when VW makes a change (especially with the polo & Golf) the rest will follow suit.
I now understand why it's so expensive after last week as I had it from rental. Very premium feel.
Yes I would buy the coffee mug, but not that shape.
Please do a high end 2022 showdown. A Polo R line (NOT GTI) vs a Clio Intens vs a 208 GT vs Fiesta Titanium. The Battle of the modern day high-end fuel savers... they're expensive but that was their primary goal; a fancy runabout before the sub-compact aygos and up!s. BTW I have a Citroën C1 Airscape since 2015 and still LOVE it but need something slightly bigger now... I'm struggling to find value... what do you recommend?
I can attest to the fact that the 15 inch tyres (on my current pre-facelift Polo, which I bought after watching your review of it, by the way...) ride more, er, comfortably. It also helps keeping costs down with regards to puncture repairs and hitting potholes.
I was actually looking at getting 17s. I bought the Polo life above in December. This car is a damn good all rounder
I can also say the 15inch ride is much better comfortable...and the fuel consumption is better .
Good. Kindly Can you please review the kia carnival
Made here, so VW pays no shipping etc and yet it costs more here than in other countries that it retails in... Havals are far better
You guys need to get Tshirts and hoodies made. I have loads of cups
Yes I will definitely buy that cup
Please review Hyundai Grand i10
but will they steal it if I buy it?
im really worried because I love this car
Plz Review the new suzuki baleno GLX🙏🏼
No Heel-n-Toe shirt in the sentimetal shop?!
If we’re the only place that makes the Gti why does it cost an arm and leg!!?
This has to be the longest vw ad I've ever seen
Great little car. There’s definitely a reason these sell like hot cakes
The only place that makes the Polo GTI.
This video lacked the label SPONSORED. The laughter as pricings and the gti prices gave it away for me. Praises all the way. Captured much. Love Ciro but motor journalism is under duress.
The rear does look like it came from the Opel Astra
Can you please review the Peugeot 208.
I second this vote. One point of concern though is that next year it along with the Corsa will be in the middle of their product life and due for a facelift along with production of petrol/diesel variants moving to Morocco.
Is it really a review if you're not driving it...? 😜
5.2l/100km on a 999cc motor? You get that in a 1.5l Mazda N/A motor with better overall power figures and standard features.
I would, they look dope and of good quality
I just don't have cash, mostly because I'm a "kid" or whatever 😔 but I would, I can't but I would if I could
Please review the 2022 Porsche Macan!!
Can you guys please review Mazda 3 seadan not the hatchback
Sedan got discontinued in South Africa
@@bwamo2430 ohh for real?
Seems like most people aren't opting for those LED lights... Even in R Line... Seems like it cleans the pocket
All of them come with LED as standard now, but yes the IQ lights are a pricey option
@@seanprins9144 those lights look like halogens, especially the housing... They can't be LEDs
@@sizakelecomfortmtshweni9530 yep, the housing is definitely a halogen ‘style’ unit, but on the website they market it as LED as standard, and they are definitely a cool white colour.
The gti is over half a million rand…the top spec is around R650k
Unfortunately not available as a diesel so no option for me.
Yes. I actually upgraded to the Life DSG model.
How's the drive, fuel economy and general feeling of the car?
What's your personal opinion. The power he is talking about???
Value for money?
@@Hello-Mr-DJ The drive is smooth and refined, the engine delivers power well, the engine is abit noisy due to it being a 3 cylinder, I actually owned the 2019 manual Polo Tsi previously which I enjoyed overall, good ride quality, decently powered 70kw engine, I did 40000km on it and averaged 6.5 litres per 100km long term. On long drives, I used to get consumption as low as 4 litres per 100km. I was therefore happy to upgrade to the Polo Life Dsg model, Dsg models are 85kw with 200nm for both the Life and R-line Polos. Fuel consumption is slightly higher so far at an average of 7.5 litres per 100km but that's due to mainly city driving, I have only done 400km on the car so I need more driving time to get better figures which I do expect. The general feeling of the car is quite premium for a hatch, great technology and refinement.
@@unclejones5393 I do feel it's quite expensive for a Polo hatch due to the price increases over the last 2 years. I bought it due to getting a competitive discount off the list price. I owned a 2019 Polo Tsi, it retained 95% of its value when I sold it so I would say resale value is great from my experience.
The optional extras that can be added to the Polo Life manual & dsg can go over R70k (Sunroof, Rims, Park package, safety package, iq-lights, Sat-nav). Depending on your needs and preferences, you can spec it to your desire. Value for money is subjective depending on how you spec the Life model which can range from total pricing of R353k to approx R460k. The more you spec, the more you stand to lose at the end as you will not necessarily recover the cost of the extras from a trade/sale.
The engine of the 85kw 200nm dsg Life delivers better power from my experience than the 70kw engine as I have driven both. The power is sufficient for decent acceleration and comfortable overtaking, it's quite nippy up steep hills as well. It's a great daily driver.
@@wesleybijailall2201 yeah the cars are getting more expensive because they are now tech laden. Like there's a lot of tech in smaller cars today that would never find before. So all these standard features push the price up, I believe. It looks very nice, I was always scared to get the TSI because I was under the impression that a 1.2 would kind of be strained and I wasn't too aware of the engine and its longevity. They then downsized even further to less than a 1000cc, I became even more weary.
I doubt you'll need another car really for a while because the tech will be relevant for a while and so will the style. There aren't many disaster stories with the previous 1.2 so I guess the 1.0 will last as well. The consumption is something I never considered until these insane petrol prices. I just have to drive and experience the engine and the zippyness you speak of.
Thank you for your response, your feedback is much appreciated.
Half a million for a polo GTI. If I wanted something flaky I'd settle for a BP pie instead. That mug tho, does it come in blue? 😆
Almost 500.000 ZAR for a gti would be an absolute steal in my country. You easily pay over 40k euro's here for a gti. (Netherlands)
Please review the Renault Clio V next 😞
Maybe if the mug was bigger and a different design, also more and more people are going to Internet Cafe's with a picture and paying them to slap that on a mug they are selling so...kinda dont see the point in this day and age
Apparently our Polo GTI still has the same 147Kw and 320Nm compared to the European Polo GTI which is a bit higher/More...
How true is this and why?
Better shape cup please 🙏
Yes
i don't this format of a review.
Why are you not in the car driving it Ciro???
Why? Its just a facelift not a whole new car
The driving footage was likely filmed at the time that Ciro had recently taken ill.
Finallyyyyy
id actually like to buy one (mug)
I would buy, probably that would only be what i afford there.. so yeah i would like them very much please, Actually
So this car doesnt have charging points for androids
My voertuig❤
Yes id order a mug but also increase the amount of posters youll make
Why is this review like this and not him in the car talking while driving 😒😒
Why? Its just a facelift not a whole new car
Petrol is kak duur
I want a cup
I'm not paying R400K+ for a polo.
In a market with car like Haval, cherry etc.. The polo no longer make sense
With the fuel price in almost R22 a liter I would say a polo makes perfect sense at under 6l per 100 km if they drive nicely.
A T shirt please
No, I won't buy your mug, but I do like your channel.
South Africa's ridiculous tax charges on motor cars is getting out of hand. They aren't the only greedy ones but because others are doing it, doesn't mean it's okay.
your hair looks way too... tamed? what did you do to Ciro, eh?
I dont know why, but I've always disliked the look of carbon fibre... So the new interior puts me off completely 😂
Cars are too expensive now
New cars pricing has become a joke. The bigger joke is that people keep buying
R400K for a polo , count me out
Aaaah, another VW. Meh.
My experience from a Golf 1 through to a Golf 7, Tiguan, Jetta, and swopping out for a new one every three years has been that VW is very expensive, under powered, cheap, mass production, horrible plastics, etc.
I thought this was what cars were supposed to be like.
In 2018 I bought a Haval H6C Lux Auto. Now my problem is, I love the Haval so much, everything else is sub-standard or heavily over priced. 🤣
Nope. Still prefer Haval.
Whoever buys this car, is part of the problem. It's like the ANC, you know there's better, but keep going back. You have 1 life to live, don't waste it on this car.
Maybe🤔
😂😂😂
Way to Expensive.
VW shouldn’t have changed the rear lights😏😭😭😭 they’ve ruined the rear look of this car
First
422k no thanks
It's the champ for being one of the most stolen cars in the country.
They keep making it uglier
Lol won't buy this ever. Not because it's a bad car but just because we are being taken for poes. That thing hot expensive sheesh.
no
