As a game designer, lemme just say that the Overclock system is downright BRILLIANT. It creates the same massive loadout/playstyle variety of games like Team Fortress 2, but uses a fraction of the development resources. It's fantastic.

only issue i see in it is - the way of obtaining them. for lack of a better term, it feels too "grindy" at the moment. since the chance of obtaining evenly spread out, across 4 classes, with their 6 weapons each, having several overclocks respectively... chances are you get something for a weapon/class you barely play and gotta wait next week or grind to promote to get more chances. some people might get special powder first try, or maybe itll be their last overclock. its just too random, and feel like it would benefit if players have a bit more control over the overclock progression. not sure exactly what but i feel like it would be a nice qol, since not everyone plays the game a whole lot to get all the overclocks like me lol.
As it stands there are four ways to get OCs: the weekly assignment, the Deep Dives, from promotions and events while in the mission (we won't be counting seasonal events). From those 4, only the ingame events provide some sort of control in the way of choosing one of the, usually, 2 options given for weapon OCs out of the 4 classes. In my opinion, you are right, and even though I've already got all the weapon OCs, I believe we should get the option to choose which class that OC is for in at least the Deep Dive rewards. At the end of each phase you get a little screen where you can see the modifiers and type of mission, alongside the "stats" of each dwarf. You should be able to choose the class of your OC in that screen, that's my opinion, it would make sense given the fact that Deep Dives are supposed to be the ultimate challenge in this game, so you should get a bit more control over your rewards.
Too bad overclocks are drip fed to you and impractical to grind out. It took me a bit over 3 months to get all overclocks, 360 hours. This is unreasonable for new players and can be a demotivating factor if they want to play with a specific one.
@@Storse 360 hours? That's insane, I got them all at like 160 - 170 hours total playtime. Idk what you were doing in the meantime, but no offense, it probably wasn't very efficient.

Gunner's shield is actually crucial in team scenarios, as it's stellar for safely reviving dwarves or saving them from impending doom.

Actually, there's a decent amount of story and lore, but not all of it is revealed as of yet. It's definitely there, especially as you do the Season 3/4 assignments and listen to Mission Control. Also, if the game had absolutely no story or lore, it wouldn't be so good at immersing you in its world.
And you forgot to mention that season pass items from previous seasons are 100% all still obtainable to this day for free through just playing the game.

Yeah the Gunners shield turns reviving teammates during a big swarm from extremely difficult into a piece of cake.
Honestly its almost worth the rest of the team protecting the gunner since the gunner can aways revive other teammates with ease until they run out of shields
Another thing to note! When a new season rolls around, all seasonal cosmetics enter the normal loot pools from the cosmetic crates you can find in caves. Nothing ever goes away, so there's never any FOMO
It's still not exactly a great system.
If you want a specific rare cosmetic like the goggled headwrap that's been in the game since promtotion rewards first became a thing, the cosmetic lootpool bloat is utterly insane, and your chances are astronomically low at this point, and it only got worse every season if you didn't feel like grinding 100 levels on the pass or simply didn't have time.
It should be in its own lootpool for exclusively seasonal cosmetics.
So funnily enough, even if it doesn't COMPLETELY lock you out of cosmetics, due to the sheer size of the matrix core cosmetic loot pool it MIGHT AS WELL be inducing FOMO, but to a sliiightly lesser extent than if those items were gone permanently.
@@b.w.s3165 Season passes have quite a big window of time before they expire, I personally don't play often, maybe a few games on weekends, and I still consistently reach 100+. I personally don't "crave" items from previous seasons since I don't really have a clue what was available back then or not (only started playing in season 3).
That being said, if you're dead set on grinding for a certain cosmetic or even all possible cosmetics, there are "approved" mods (which can be utilized with your normal save, with no downsides, apart from not being able to earn achievements while they're still turned on) which can enable you to near-guarantee that chests, backpacks and events spawn in levels. This drastically reduces the grind you'd have to put in.

@@lucy_dergidk how’s that possible seeing I have all the weapon overclocks at level 210 and a good majority of the cosmetic ones aswell,
A lot of them also end up in the in game shop for credits and phazyonite

Ironically, you were living under a rock, management would have gotten the dwarfs top dig you up by now, thus meaning you would not in fact be living under a rock.......so basically, there is no way you should not have heard about this game.
I have seen many small youtubers make videos like this, where they try a game and show their opinions about the game. And I will tell you, that no other game summons a greater community than Deep Rock Galactic's.
I have somehow persuaded one of my friends into an addiction to this game, and me saying that I won't stop her from getting even more addicted because the game is awesome is my best way of showing the world how awesome DRG truly is. I love this game and I hope I run into you on a mission someday :) and until then, Rock and Stone!

It also has an amazing unwritten challenge mode for those who want truly brutal real life experience. Drink an ale before the pod leaves the base lol i have had to play a mission with triple vision and holy crap that was crazy
Also depending on which ale you drank depends on if you are stumbling around
there is a specific way to get 99 drunkness to make this challenge the worst but its just unfun this way
randoweisser exists and its very fun to take on elite deep dives as it provides a good challenge for even greybeards
i would love more end game content that is optional. Then it could play like Path of Exile ish. Where you do the endgame content you want to do and add to it for more rewards.

Edit: you missed the best part about the season pass. Any cosmetics you don't unlock from the pass? They get recycled into existing cosmetic rewards pools in the game. No fear of missing out.

the only 2 problems i ran into with this game is the usual obvious one but the sweats who make this a competative thing and dont want to deal with or help new players, the second one while alot less common is probably worse then the first and thats toxicly friendly those guys will send a fat boy your way for not picking up dorettas head or will like tell you the "right" way to do thing in a very passive aggressive tone, like YOU HAVE TO PING gold or pet loot bugs or whatever other tids and bits like getting wayyyyyyyyyy too hard into dwarf rp and shaming you for drinking leaf lover.
They kinda shit the bed on their advertising of this game apparently, because I had no idea it was at all like what you explained here!
I thought it was just a cheap 1st person shooter in caves, with no real objectives or much else to do...
I'm thinkin I should probably nab this one up when it's on sale again, cuz it looks pretty cool now that I saw this vid!
