This video covers a ton of good practices for DRG and I'm sure you learn some trick that you didn't know about. - Hry
some other tips I don't see mentioned: If you have a weapon that deals heat dmg, you can light up the green gas left behind by oppressors and others. It's also applicable to funges bogs mushroom farts and driller neurotoxin gas grenade
*If you are a scout, try to use 3 flares in a triangle shaped way. Meaning there should be around 60* angle between each flare shot. This usually is enough fo most medium sized caverns. Small caverns should take only 2 flares, shot at opposite directions to one another.
*you can also change your class while the mission is loading up. Meaning if you selected a class by mistake you can change it by pressing E while the mission loads.
*if you have the fatboy overclock, that's the easiest way to do the omen and caretaker mechanics. just chuck the fatboy on caretaker when each phase begins as fast as possible.
*if you are falling and have no way of surviving, try to power attack just before you hit the ground. It takes incredible precision and little bit of luck but if you execute it properly you can create a small ledge which lets your dwarf do the edge climb animation and it breaks your fall. But it's incredibly hard to do and I've only succeeded 2-3 times in my hundreds of hours. But it's still better than nothing and if you manage to pull it off, you feel like a fking god.
* if you have objectives with similar type to gunk seed collection, try to throw these gunk seed where the ground is tilted to collect all of them in one place. Then call molly and collect all of them together. This saves a lot of painful carriying to molly. Same logic can be used in aquards but you'll need a driller to make a path straight to the collection rig.
*you can order bosco to guard doretta while you go to collect oil. so that if the bugs attack doretta while you are away, bosco will be able to fend of small amounts of bugs and you don't have to go running back.
*bosco can also dig up aquards, eggs and minerals which are stored in the same way. If you have gunner's coil gun and do things correctly, you don't even have to leave spawn and will be able to complete egg hunts.
*if a teammate leves during a mission, he'll drop his inventory which looks like a gear and has similar size to an gunk seed. you can deposite those and get the minerals.
*if you are a driller, you can dig into a wall a little far and use a c4 to make make-shift bunker. If you and your teammates go into this bunker all the bugs will have no other way but enter through a small passage made by you. You can then kill them far more easily. This allows you and your teammates to survive in higher difficulty missions. But be warned if oppressor or bulk detonator spawns, you'll be fked. so have another way out in mind in case of emergency. If one of them spawns, drill through that emergenct way and save yourselves and the team.

when falling and you want to grab a zipline or a pipeline to not take fall damage, you don't need to spam E and pray it works, you can just hold E and as soon as you get within the range you'll grab it

Here's some real advice to be a greybeard: play ALL of the classes, promote them all together, don't leave either of them underplayed. You want to be the best you can with all of them so you know when to anticipate the needs for other miners. That's how you truly work as a team
I did this and I think it's the best way to get the most out of the game. You can join any party of 3 and play the missing piece
I don't understand ppl who have a class promoted 15 times but leaves the others at 2-3 promotions
Counter argument, play however you want to play. if you only enjoy 1 or 2 classes its perfectly fine to get as good as you possibly can before trying the other ones. Yes it's good to play with all classes to learn how they play so you can work well in a team but you can also do that by playing alongside those classes rather than playing them directly.
@@bassbusterxi have much more fun playing engie then any other class so i play him more than any other class (i still like all classes). I have played all classes but i probably have more time on engie then all the other classes combined.
@@raisinsmakemeuncomfortable6893 experience is always a better teacher versus living vicariously through someone else's. That advice can be used both in and out of game.
Aside from that, if one only likes to play a certain class then that's ok too, but my original comment wasn't about how to play comfortably in DRG, it was about how to be the best...
TO BE THE BEST, one must step out of their comfort zone and be willing to use the dwarf they are weakest with. All classes are strong and can lead the way, it only depends on the strategies and tactics the player develops by actively playing with those classes.
At the highest level (Hazard 5), I have found more success in groups that switched classes in between victories than those that stay static and kept the same class. Having your favorite character and only wanting to play only those 1 or 2 is cool and ok. But telling yourself that that's the reason you don't want to play the other classes will only lead to your stagnation, and will ultimately make you fall behind in higher hazard levels, and you want to be the best you can be at those higher levels don't you? I hope this opens your mind a bit, and good luck on your journey, miner.
That engi platform hopping trick is gold. 600 hours in and I never thought about that
A minor counterargument to the "Scouts calling molly in the sky" one.
If you have Pots o Gold and you mined a huge gold vein that won't fall, feel free to call Molly. It'll save more time, and when I mined entire veins of it, I've actually deposited for 20+ seconds at a time just because of all the gold on the platform I was standing on while mining it.
In every other case, yeah, you can grapple back.
Everything that works for driller axes also works for scout crossbow bolts. You can destroy the electric crystals with crossbow bolts and grab them back again
Here are a few tips I'd like to share:
* You can dig under burst fire turrets to destroy them but you cannot do the same for repulsion turrets. You can however also dig out sniper turrets and uproot stabber vines.
* When hacking wires, deliberately missing the wires will cause the cursor to speed up, allowing veteran hackers to hack faster.
* On longer mining missions, it can be beneficial for the driller to drill shortcuts between major caverns long before the droppod is ready to be called. Bugs will not spawn until the pod lands, so this gives the team a chance to call the droppod and be halfway back up the cave before it even lands. Calling molly towards the droppod will also reduce the time she spends walking to the pod.
* One should be weary of using ziplines. Admittedly this one's a hunch, but it feels like using the zipline deliberately aggros any enemy capable of hitting non-ground dwarves (mactera, nedocyte, spitters etc)
* Digging away nearby pillars is good for opening up LoS, but also deprives bugs of a potential flank option
* If playing engi with repellent platforms on escort missions, consider laying down a semicircle of platforms from one spire to the other, spanning the outer perimeter of the omoran area (far enough outside that the phase blast doesn't break it). If done right, the majority of bugs that spawn from behind will have to reroute all the way around, buying valuable time for the team.
* While pre-drilling on dozer missions is generally frowned upon in the community, if you reach the first stop (or second) take the time to dig out some oil from the walls, via the normal terrain (most terrain takes 2 hits, oil takes 4). When minerals and oil are no longer supported by terrain they break off and land in a pile which is vastly faster to absorb with the batteries later on.

@@vonraven947 Yep, those are some of the few enemies that refuse to freeze. You can still inflict thermal shock though if you fill their cold meter then introduce a little heat

On empty resupply pods: sometimes leaving them standing is more useful than digging them down. More accurately, on dreadnought elimination missions. Some dreadnoughts have ranged attacks (for example, Hive Guard in "open" phase throws rocks around), and a pod can be used as a cover on an arena that otherwise has none.
Some more tips to consider:
* Ebonuts also count as terrain, and only take 2 axes to open as driller.
* You can not only animation-cancel the normal pickaxe swing into a powerattack, but also the powerattack into a normal swing. Getting the timing down can massively increase your mining speed for small mining jobs.
* Any time you place down a turret, try to place in an elevated position so that it's line of sight is not blocked by dwarves. Preferably, you'd place it in the air to further reduce collision, which can be accomplished using platforms (and then breaking the platforms after), using the uplink or resupply pods (before you mine it down), or heavy objects (yes you can place them on top and then just move the object).
* As driller, if there are no open spaces behind the uplink, drill 45 degrees up into the wall and c4 the ceiling to blow up an area flush with the ground (provided your have rock mover on your c4). This is great for uplinks or really any area where you need more space.
* Back to turrets, you can also EM Discharge and Turret Arc other engie's turrets, as well. Bringing multiple engies with different kinds of turret interactions is highly effective.
* Holding the W key will allow you to jump off a zipline, no matter what. This means you can jump from zipline to zipline, as well as climb up ziplines faster than just using them normally.
* Doretta gains 4 seconds of invincibility upon being repaired to 100% for any given healthbar. Use this to tank bulk detonators.
* When power-attacking your own foothold in a wall as a scout, the angle at which you powerattack is important. It will take some getting used to, but in general, pickaxe in the direction of your momentum.
* Sticky Flames will also kill all turrets with a single spray, so long as you have enough sticky flame duration to ignite them. It's a little slower than driller, but much safer since you don't need to get as close, and also applicable to all turret types.
* On escort missions, drillers can TCF, c4, or drill out oil shale much faster than it can normally be mined or collected using the canisters.
* On escort missions as engie, if you are running any kind of explosive (PGL, proxy mines, EM Discharge plascrete catalyst, etc.) bridge from the side of the tunnel into the center with 2 platforms and place your explosives on the tip. This will ensure you catch the entire width of the tunnel in your explosion radius. This setup can likewise be used in any mission type, but the tunnels in escort missions are the perfect size.
That's neat with sticky flames, definitely gonna use that for sabotage
Animation cancel on normal pickaxing only works if you’re host.
I didn’t see you describing this, but fast pickaxe throwing only works if you’re driller as a host.

Level 500+ here and these are all rock solid tips.
One thing I've taken to is knocking down any the red sugar since you only take what you need and it saves that much time if you're running from bugs.

Alternatively to deal with inebriation before a mission without becoming a leaf lover you can simply buy a blackout stout to have with the boys instead of dying in the hoop. Not super practical but much more fun!

Omen Eliminator hot tip- Engie Plat a stack of pancakes on the little scanners if the purple wave thing keeps killing you. If it happens to be near a wall- even better. Use that to save ammo. You don't actually need to be boots-to-steel on the scanners. Just near and over.

4:10 i would like to mention that this method works IF you drill down 5 blocks and then c4. This makes a little cave with a roof and engi can platform off any holes and leave one hole for the bugs to funnel through. This is insane with sticky flame and makes the run easier.
Screw the tips, I want to see more of that sick rollercoaster at the start!

hers a tip for escort, when dotty runs out of gas waves of enemys will spawn a bit after she stops until bouth batteries are fulled and in dotty, you can even end a wave any time by refulling dotty. and, remember leave no one behind
4:15 that is painfully true. I have meager 20 hours played and i was kicked for refusing to stay in a murder hole our 150lvl driller made and was called an idiot, because i lost previous game for exact same reason. Just one giant exploding bug fell on top of us and that was the end. And not to mention insane amount of friendly fire because you can't see anything.

Just want to add a comment about the platform trick at 6:05, it's nice to see a Engineer pulling it off right, the problem is that most of them unfortunately do not lmao.
This trick in particular doesn't gain time or decrease risk, you block line of sight for anyone below the platforms for that entire phase (a common place to walk around), it's very easy to mess it up due to the meteors behavior, if anything happens to the Engineer during the meteor phase Doretta will take a lot of damage, since it becomes difficulty to shoot meteors and stand near her for repairs if needed. The ammo saving is negligible since you probably got tons of nitra when arriving at the heartstone (even on Deep Dives). In my experience, it's safer and easier to just shoot the meteors.

Yeah I remember one where you can use drills to negate fall damage if you time it right, but it's pretty technical and requires a bit of practice and skill

You can essentially increase your pickaxe dps by animation canceling wgile hitting bugs or ebonuts by letting go of right click as soon as the hit connects and immediately clicking again
Having the big Bertha overclock makes the resistance to damage buff for gunner way better
About those electrocrystals, they can also be broken by scouts Boltshark, I find this easiest when you have T4B.
for the scout grapple trick to make a foothold without engi, best tip i can give would be to go above where you want the foothold and power attack at a downwards angle.
On the 8:20 part with these "poison mushrooms" what i like to call, you can actually use flamethrower against them which will cause a little explosion and destroy all of those poison mushrooms that were near eachother

Me and my friends (Driller, Scout and Gunner) build a bunker with a tunnel under the points we need to defend to funnel all the bugs.
Yeah I used to bunker a lot! The long time players tend to frown on it tho cause it kinda takes the fun away which I agree with. It also leaves you cornered if a bill shows up
You can also press "M" on the space rig to open the mission selector as well as TAB, which he mentioned. Don't ask me why there are 2 shortcuts for the same thing... 😂😂 ROCK AND STONE!

Yeah ordering blackout is the community accepted way OR jumping through the barrel hoop to cure being drunk. Under NO circumstance should you EVER order, touch, look at, or even mention “ leaf lover”
I feel that with the kick eligibility for Drillers C4-ing shit on Salvage so much. Like even if you are new to the game it shouldn't be hard to grasp why depriving yourself of the high ground is a horse shit idea. Unfortunately I am never the one hosting when this happens so I am left to rage internally.
and god forbid a shellback spawns then you have a beyblade arena of hell
At the same time though, there are kicks that happen and you have no idea why you got kicked (they won't tell you) or you get kicked for stupid reasons, which is a serious blow into an otherwise fantastic community. Still better than the L4D2 versus community.
@@TheMikirog Maybe on lower Hazards but personally I cannot say, that've ever been/seen someone get kicked and not having at least an idea why.
Usually it's that someone is playing bad, not doing their job, being an asshole.
That being said - I can imagine that some players get confused, when I kick them immediately upon joining my lobby, as I have written in my server description, that I only want promoted dwarfs to join and some people just cannot read.
Similarly I use MOTD mod to display rules in chat when someone enters and I also kick for not complying with those.

3:34 on console (the only thing I play) I can’t remember what button and I can’t be bothered to go check (boot up my Xbox, wait for the green start screen to leave, sign in, launch DRG, and finally check just to end up closing it all down… and if I do YT on my phone WILL crash during that time.) it might be the Back Button (the two squares merging.) parallel to the pause/resume button. The Back Button might confuse someone so I’ll put it this way, push the same button you would for the terrain scanner.

regarding Hooli hoarder:
I found one specific overclock that kills it efficiently and fast - Embedded Detonators on NUK17. In Hazard 5 mission with 4 dwarves it kills it in 3-4 full mags (which is very fast on this weapon).
In theory Explosive Reload on Subata may also work, but I haven't tested this yet.
Oh, how tired I am of dwarves who grabs a vacuum cleaner and run after me to vacuuming all the infection. In solo mode, I just make Bosco carry the vacuum cleaner in his paws while I fill everything with foam, then he throws the vacuum cleaner to me and I collect everything at once. But i can’t explain such science to these empty-headed dwarves!

Okay so I'm 7 months late, if you've got a driller on your team while on an escort mission, ALWAYS drill to the heartstone before you start Doretta. You can get all possible resources without having to worry about Doretta coming under attack that way

in the driller clips how do you have so much visibility when drilling material? my screen is obscured with all the dirt particles

12:05 gunner can also make hole under turret, it instantly kills them. With coil gun ofc ourse. But you need to aim it well. Kinda meh when you can just take heat upgrade on coil gun and 1 shot heats them up to death

How do you have all the turrets and stuff (always) highlighted? Well, I suppose it’s a mod, so I guess the eater question is what mods you use. Also, doesn’t the heartstone explosion destroy platforms?
It does destroy platforms at the end of each phase so you have to wait until phase 1 is over to place them. The highlighting is a mod that I’m struggling to remember the name of but I think it’s something like ally outlines or something like that

I’m a bit of a noob but I was wondering how do you highlight where the mule is on your hud? And how much nitra your team has? mine just pops up randomly and I have trouble seeing how much nitra the team has until it randomly pops up on the side
All you need to do for both of those is pull out your laser pointer! Molly is permanently highlighted for me cause if a mod tho!
