  • Taking a look at the Pathfinder M34 Scout Canteen. A great small canteen that is a perfect fit for a haversack.

    Nice unboxing video! Thanks for sharing so quickly. USPS just flat out lies about delivery dates. The good news is that I am now trained to add 1 or 2 days to their projected date and not stress so much.

    Excited to receive mine. If USPS is on it, I should get it by a trip I have planned for 2025.

    Not commenting on the product, but will comment on USPS.... THEY ARE UNRELIABLE, AND REDICULOUS WHEN IT COMES TO DELIVERY TO THE CORRECT ADDRESS... LUCKY YOU EVEN RECEIVED IT AT ALL... BTW... DAVE AND THE PATHFINDER COMPANIES PRODUCTS ARE 100% AWESOME 👍👍👍

    I would like to have it. I have a Swiss original, but I would like this in stainless steel. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find or extremely expensive in Europe.

    Got 2 , they came today via UPS normal shipping and it was a day early. One I spray painted with Rust-Oleum for use in a fire. The other was left as is for liquor.

    Why didnt they make it with better tolerances? I have a few originals, and none rattle at all. And a chain for the cap would of been good. I like it, but a bit short of what i was hoping for.

    • @BarnYardOutdoors
      @BarnYardOutdoors  Před 11 měsíci

      Even with the rattle I think they did a good job. I do agree that some type of retaining chain for the cap would have been great. Maybe in a few years they will do a version 2. Thanks for watching and the comment.

    How many gold pieces did it cost, and I hope it does not take more than one bulk to wear?

    The USPS is probably the worst delivery service. I live less than 1/2 mile from the local post office in a large commercial RV Park in a very small town and had tremendous problems with the USPS finding this business and/or delivering my goods to the wrong address. I rented a PO Box which solved the problem as they can apparently find a box in their own building. FedEx, UPS, & DHL have no trouble finding my RV Park.
    In my 50 years of adult life (post college) I have lived in 4 states and 7 cities/towns. Only in 1 of those locations (Prescott, AZ) was the USPS good and there is was very good!
    With 16 oz. of 100 Proof whiskey (50% alcohol) you would not have any trouble with contamination at a seem or weld. 😵‍💫
    I also purchased this product from SRO for use as a water container in my haversack. I have been very impressed with the quality and usefulness of this container.

    how the thickness, have u measure it?
    Thanks

    • @BarnYardOutdoors
      @BarnYardOutdoors  Před 10 měsíci

      I don't have a measuring tool to measure the thickness of the steel. I would say it is the same thickness as other Pathfinder gear like the bushpot, canteen or cup. I have no concerns about it not holding up to many years of use.

    Congratulations! I've been eying that bottle since David Canterbury anounced it on CZcams.
    I was issued the original 'Feldflasche 34' (new, when I received mine) when I attended basic training back in 1986. They were replaced the following year with the Feldflasche 84, but I kept mine. Unfortunately it is nolonger usable, the cork has deteriorated badly.
    As you suggest, they were often not used for water or tea alone..

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 Před 11 měsíci

      Everywhere I've looked they're called M32, including on Swiss sites auf duitsch. I have the M34 set, the cup is in a survival kit pouch for emergencies, and I use the bottle in everyday usage, in a mountain bike pannier for example. I'd love to buy this one but they aren't available here in the UK yet.

    • @alexandergutfeldt1144
      @alexandergutfeldt1144 Před 11 měsíci

      @@simonh6371 Background: The Swiss Army naming system works by stating the name of the object 'Feldflasche' and the year the model was introduced, reduced to two digits '34'.
      There appears to be a model released in 1932 that looks slightly different.
      'duitsch' => I assume you mean 'Deutsch'?
      Somehow the civilian market (shops, whebsites) expects to see that 'M' in front of the year of release. I've seen that done with othe items too.
      Anyway, I hope you enjoy using the Feldflasche, no matter what year the original was introduced to the troops.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 Před 11 měsíci

      @@alexandergutfeldt1144 Yeah I did mean deutsch but it was a joke reference to ''Schwytzerduitsch'' pronunciation. In Austria it would be ''deitsch'' as in ''red deitsch, mir san in Oesterreich''. Ich habe frueher in D und Oesterreich gewohnt, deshalb kommt mir Schweizerdeutsch immer a Bisserl komisch vor. But it's probably a better place to live than either of those 2 countries, in some ways I wish I'd tried to move there when I was younger, I'd probably have stayed.
      As to the Feldflasche, if you mean this Pathfinder version it's not on the market yet in the UK but it will be in a few months no doubt, and it probably won't be cheap either, I reckon around £50, but I may well give into temptation to get it. It's so compact that it would work as part of urban everyday carry. I think I mentioned I have the M84 bottle & cup which are very good minimalist kits, if I'm out on my bike even in the city I tend to chuck this in a bike pannier. I don't really need this M34 kit but I do want it, you know how it is.

      @@simonh6371 Ah! Now I understand! In (my local) dialect it would be spelled 'D ütsch'
      The pathfinder M34 seems awfully heavy, but I'll try to buy one if I get a chance.

    As an alcohol flask I can see the merit of this but as a canteen this could be a bad joke compared to even just a standard USGI canteen.

    Not following Dave directly this was a hmm 🤔 moment, I can see various elements from other designs coalesced perfectly here and I realised 16 oz ? ah yes one standard American pint throws me sometimes mentally switching between American and Imperial measurements even with the cup would also be perfect for a large inside jkt pocket, also a thought struck Cold Brew Coffee, another refreshing drink depending on the circumstances, more power to your elbow Sir, enjoy it, just don't drop it on a sandalled foot when full, that would be most distressing atb Bill

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 Před 11 měsíci

      It's based on the standard Swiss Army canteen and cup issued 1932-84.
