Thanks for the review. That really seems to be a nice piece of gear. The deformation could also be done without the pouring spout. Gear like that is not designed for much stiffness to allow for better pack weight. OTOH it´s cooking gear. I think it´s tough enough to survive cooking, transport in a backpack and some minor mishaps in the camp.

A couple of features I like about the Zebra pot that this doesn’t have are the basket insert, I made a few holes in it and use it as steamer and the metal locking handles (mine has the metal, is several years old) I prefer over the butterfly handles. I have the big one, forgot the measurements, bought a specific kit to go inside sold at Firebox site and now I can also bake corn bread or smoke a chunk of beef or chicken. Very versatile this way but probably too big for backpacking, I car-tent camp so weight is no issue for me but going for several consecutive weeks gives me a chance to have better meals than dehydrated ones. If you have a Firebox it goes perfectly sideways for using the tray with the handles locked. Thanks for the video always good detailed information that’s much appreciated.

Thanks for the info Carmen! Where did you get your pot? Every zebra pot I have looked at is insane price after shipping and dutys. Would like to get one to compare without breaking the bank. Also Dave is trying to get a basket kit that will fit in his bush pot so you can steam. He was talking about it in his last video. If it happens I will be picking one up.

@@charlesartificer2158 is been several years, I might have gotten it directly from Firebox or Amazon, just make sure the handle tabs are metal or change them. I’m not very handy thus mine came with metal as plastic will melt when using it sideways for baking or roasting, having the tabs ensures the lid remains tightly closed just like an oven, get a thermometer, make another hole on the top lid, secure it but make it removable and you got yourself a great versatile vessel. I’ve made some incredible meals in it, pretty easy to smoke meat too, you could probably use a mini pound cake silicone mold in there, very cheap making washing a breeze. Remember to use a rack, don’t place things directly on the side when baking, grab a few small rocks to place on bottom to maintain more even temperature, there are some Firebox videos out there, I used his general method and it was easy. Haven’t tried the silicone molds in this pot yet but I’ve used them inside a mess kit with a rack and they worked, perfect corn bread for one.

Sounds good. I only see one on amazon that is not an insane price. Its from firebox www.amazon.com/Firebox-Quart-5-5-Billy-Can/dp/B01LWLU5MJ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=zebra%2Bbushpot&qid=1696818562&sr=8-1&th=1 14cm is like 5.5" I'm guessing 1.5 quarts of liquid comfortably. I'm just wondering if my subscribers overseas will consider this an accurate representation of the zebra bush pots they can get over there.

That pot is a nice piece of gear at a good price point. Charles, a question if I may. Do you have any ZEBRA brand pots from Thailand to compare against your new Pathfinder pot? The ZEBRA is very popular in Australia and in some other places for bush pots. They are the new "Billy can," the history of which you may read about online.

@NewHampshireJack No I do not have a zebra bush pot. I have seen them online for years and considered getting one but they were always coming from Australia or the UK and the shipping and duty's were nuts. so I passed on them for years. I wish I had one to compare them to. I will take a look on amazon and see if anyone has them state side for shipping. If so maybe pick one up for comparison.
When Dave started to make his own brand of outdoor gear and was shipping from the continental USA I was all in. The fact that he has made his own bush pots in three sizes is just a bonus to me. So far all his gear has been very good with minimal complaint from me.
