Pot Tip! When filling a pot from a creek face the mouth downstream... it reduces the likely hood of surface debris entering the pot.

Thanks for the review mate, I will say that the lid is not meant to be a tight fit as I don't like to wrestle a lid off my pot when it is filled with hot liquid, just my 2 Cents on that point.
+wildernessoutfitters Hey buddy. Yea that's a really good point. If it does fit tight you could just rest the lid on the pot without losing too much heat. But on a side note, my brother and I would love to collaborate with you!

To make the lid into a locking lid just take a hammer and a nail set and a small scrap piece of 2 x 4 and just punch a divot on each side of the lid so that it will provide a friction fit on the pot
This one is on my wish list. I have both he original water bottle cook set and the stainless canteen cookset from the Pathfinder Store and they are both very well made.
Survival On Purpose Are they made in China as well? And I agree, the pot it definitely well made. Just not certain about the loose fitting lid.
I'm pretty sure they are. Mine have held up very well. They both have lids but I have never really noticed ho tightly they fit.

Initially I thought I would like a tight fitting lid as well, but I have found that I do not. When the pot is hot, it is somewhat cumbersome to remove the lid that is not loose. This is a struggle sometimes, especially when it is cold and wet out and your hands aren't working as well as you would like them to. The loose lid lifts off with a small stick and you have multiple options to pour from this pot using the bail or the handles. Other than storage and some minor benefit in carrying, I see no practical reason to have a snug fitting lid, a carry pouch is more than adequate to correct this, and I would want one anyway because of the carbon buildup. This of course is only personal preference, as is all of these reviews, this is not a cut on your review, as I really do enjoy them. Thanks again for showing this.
With mine I made a locking lid with a hammer and a nail set and just punched a divot in the lid so that the excess metal went to the outside of the rim of the lid which then rubs on the inside of the pot securing the lid to the pot

I have had this same pot for awhile now....I also had the loose fitting lid, and I simply flexed the sides of the pot in a tiny bit and now it snaps in place rather well. Great video BTW.

BlackOwlOutdoors Would definitely be interesting to see a comparison. I stay away from aluminum due to it being reactive and aluminum being arguably toxic to the body. The anodized aluminum in the Mors pot is a step in the right direction as the anodizing is non reactive eliminating that issue. Some argue that the anodized surface scratches and wears over time and then starts leaching aluminum. But probably not as much as a non-anodized aluminum. I like that the Mors pot is made in USA. While I do personally believe aluminum is toxic I would still consider getting a Mors pot especially if I new the anodizing was high quality. If it got scratched up or if I could taste aluminum over time then I would just replace it. Aluminum definitely conduct heat much better than stainless steel.
I use the mors bush pot by four dog stove. Its anodized aluminum with same bail and butterfly handle. Ive been pleased with it

I think I gave $36 for it. Dave design is pretty much is the same but its ss.

I used a set of needle nose pliers, tweaked my pour spout a little, tightened the pot on the lid , made a more defined pour spout
Got a canoe trip coming up. Just picked one of these bushpots up. It's only $24.99 now and that feels like a great price.

kbbjedi Thanks Kenny. Apparently folks prefer the Four Dog version, which is aluminum. I opted for the stainless. We may have to purchase the Four Dog pot and see how they compare.
Thanks for the feedback guys, i will look into the Four Dog pots. I've been happy with other gear from the Pathfinder Store but it's always nice to have options.
I've always been told to keep my container's mouth to the opposide direction of the stream. That way nothing can come and float into the pot.
I have the Solo Stove mid size pot, which has a tight lid, and the same size. . It has both good and bad sides to it.
On the plus side, you can use it to carry water, since when you carry it with the top handle, the pot and the water swings along with each other’s. You can also use it to sift things, like coffee grounds. On the minus side, it is quite the work sometimes to put it on properly.
I could also wish for a longer top handle sometimes, for better space when you hang it from a stick.
And I never scrubbed the black coating either. It even provides an extra protective layer against rust.
I’ll also add, it’s great to have a largish pot like this when you melt snow. Even when you don’t need that much, in the end.
Nice pot with good features. I thought... in wintertime if you want to melt snow to get water, that size would be handy for one person. At least it feels like it could save some time to be able to melt more snow right away. Very nice video. Thanks for sharing. /Ulrica

Contact the Pathfinder store. I'm pretty sure the lid is supposed to have a friction fit. They might send a new lid or something.

I think that Mr. C intentionally did the lid with a little bit of slack so that you wouldn't have to fight to get the lid off while it is hot. And I also think he might have mentioned that if you prefer have it fit tighter, you can just squeeze the pot on two sides and exaggerate the spout just a bit more and then the sides will have more tension along the lid to keep it in place a little better.
I think it's more likely it's sloppily made in China, just like the other Pathfinder stainless items. Not one Pathfinder stainless item measures up to inspection. With this one, it's bunk that the lid is that loose. It's far looser than it needs to be to get the lid off the pot just by lifting it.
I have the older aluminum version. I like it quite a bit. The lid is nice and tight on mine.
The Hidden Woodsman makes a bag for that pot.

Take your left hand put it on the spot below where the bail attaches. Take your right hand put it on the opposing side under the bail. Push your left hand and right hand together, squeezing the pot. Put lid on pot. Is it tighter? Repeat as necessary until lid is tight.
So its a billy then.

The pot lid should be mangled in such a way that if you accidently drop your pot of hot liquid or precious food it should likly not fall out or all over you. Mors Kochanski
I'm surprised you haven't used that ride along stove/grill. Build your self a key hole fire pit, move some hot coals aside while keeping the fire going and it's all so simple. No need to deploy and feed a seperate wood stove. But then, perhaps that's just me. I agree with you about that loose lid. And thanks from this subscriber for all of your efforts. Really like your channel!!

if you're not sold on this set up have a look at the solo stove and 1800 pot. they sent me one and i love it.
I saw a man on CZcams push in on the two side were the bail handle connects to pot and it fixs the lid well now
Four dog stove makes these pots and made them long before Dave ever made a deal with the company.
aah that mors pot does look like a good one. The aluminium woukd make for a faster boil. I saw them on frost rivers website.
Four Dog does not make the Mors pot, they just sell them. Open Country makes the Mors pot right here in Wisconsin.
I believe this stainless copy Dave sells is made in China.

I have the same pot. Lid fits nice, not too tight, but tighter than yours. Maybe you just need to give it a little hug and tighten it up a little. I use my stove stand with a alcohol stove and that works nice when I can't build a fire. Good review thanks.

Yeah I got the pathfinder bush pot. But I'm still going to buy a "Zebra Loop Handle Pot 14cm"..... You can put a little pressure on the rim of the pathfinder bush pot & that will make the lid a tighter fit. It's basically a Mors Kochanski bush pot. In that, that it has a 7 to 8 cup capacity.

Great pot and even better review but in my opinion I prefer the zebra billy can I know that it doesn't have a locking bail, butterfly handles and a spout it is my favourite due to it being heavier duty the lid being more solid and the little dish inside a swell as the polished finish. The mors pot by four dog stove seems to be a better bet in my option as it has all the the same features and more it has a fairly locking lid and it is made of thick aluminium which makes it durable and light. However I think that this is Also a great pit if you can afford it (I can't) which is probably why I'm jealous

1L = 10 deciliters = 100 centiliters = 1000 milliliters
1 meter = 10 decimeters = 100 centimeters = 1000 millimeters
And the list goes on and on...
Also, 1 cubic deciliter of water weighs 1 kilogramm and is 1 liter.
Its all connected.
It's probably been mentioned, I really can't be bothered looking, but Litres and Millilitres are both metric, there's no conversion, just basic math.

Dave's stove was right there to demo, but you ducked that part. It works swell in my use, even with an alcohol stove. My lid didn't shake off, either until I used it a while... so I took a center punch and put a couple of tiny marks on the lid to hold it in. Works find now.
Squish the pot out of shape slightly and the lid with stay on 👍

Now I liked your video! The round base you said that you could use it for a grill ,well it's also a wood fired stove, use it to heat your water , and use your square wood stove to cook your food ! The square cut out that you put over the handles is where you add twigs to keep the fire going ! But you knew that didn't you ? Joe
The tension on the handles wont take long to wear and loosen even the bail and its locking positions. Those things arent any of the reasons id buy or not buy a mess kit. Durability & size is all I look for. The base you didnt care for or find a use for yet is used the same as your box you built the fire in only bigger and better. Im confused lmao
The difference between pathfinder and others is that pathfinder is stainless steel. As for the lid mine clicks in nd is tight, so I'd personally return that one with the loose lid.

Well worth it, as all the ones I've seen including my own has a lid that clips in tight.

My bush pot has a tight fit and I've seen a video to where you just squeeze the rim on the pot and the lid fit tight. but I didn't have to do that. I'm very happy with all the path finder gear I have bought. Good video by the way!

Mors bush pot from Fourdog is a much better deal.
it's a direct knock off of the original Mors Canadian bush pot. four dogs makes a copy of the mora pot "Better in my opinion" but the real actual design came from the Canadian air force in the 1950's. Mors a rather historical figure in Canada from the 1970's adapted it from the Canadian airforce for his own use. This is how the pot was known to be called the Mors bushpot. Looks like it will soon be remembered as the Dave C bushpot after 30 years... Four Dogs version comes black coated or anodized pot which is nice for heating up faster downside is that the pot is light but can get dented up versus the steel pot version here. The bails are removable on the Four Dogs which is also a nice touch. Give the four dogs a look you may like it as well as the other four dogs makings which are rather nice.
RViscara I'm familiar with Mors and this pot's origin. I wanted to try this version because it's made from stainless. I still haven't ruled out purchasing the Four Dog one. Take it easy.
take it easy? I was not coming down on you or the video. I was also not the only one who mentioned the four dogs. I only mentioned the story behind the original pot and where it came from. Most believe it to have come from four dogs or mora himself. Most did not know it was from Canadian Air Force. Mora himself is a rather interesting man in his own right and was worth the mention that I believe most may find intriguing on this channel. never was coming down on you.

RViscara I'm not so sure this pot design originated with the Canadian Air Force. I know that's not what you said above, but like everything in bushcraft, good ideas are shared and evolve. Pretty sure this pot design came from Mirro. This company started making aluminum pots, pans, and utensils in the early 1900s. They made a cook set in the 50s that has multiple pots and pans in it and it all collapsed into itself like a Russian doll for transport and storage. The smallest pot in the set is clearly the predecessor to the CAF pot, Four Dog's pots, and DC's pots. You can find the pot sets still for sale on eBay etc for about $50 US. I have had a set for years and use them all when car camping. The bushpot gets used the most. It's nice and light and works well, but really takes dents easily. I was afraid I would ruin it, so I got a DC pot to replace it for regular bushcrafting. It's clearly heavier, but man, you can beat the crap out of it.
Just right for 1 person just fill it half full. How would you feel if you were fixing supper and your brother showed up unexpectedly and you had a small pot?

Why wouldn't you grab this pot first , 1 - pack all your food , fire starter , first aid kit , tent , rain gear , tarp , clothes , and , or , anything you want inside pot , 2 - large so you can purify a substantial amount of water without making numerous trips to water source . 3 - doesn't take up any more room than things mentioned

Just squeeze the pot at the top a little and the lid will stay put just fine . . . and don't call me a turtle! :-)
Not sure I should bother with the rest of the review considering you're not able to work out the liters to milliliters conversion.
I've found pot made of better material and heavy duty and bigger for the same price. It was really no comparison. zebra pots are just so much more for the money that it isn't even close. I love self reliance outfitters and anything to do with great quality gear that can be counted on. I don't get paid for anything to do with any product I use but that will change very soon. I don't give a rats ass about any name or brand of any kind that does not give good if not great results.
Get a Zebra Pot! Much better quality. I can't speak for his other gear, but the new, large Pathfinder alcohol stove is a piece of crap. Made in China! I've gone through 3 of these stoves, and not one of them work properly. Just MHO.

This is a cheap kock off of the Mors Pot.
When comparing Dave's pot with the Mors Pot from Four Dog Stoves ... Dave's is not good... The Mors Pot is American made, has a tight lid, and costs $11 less. Check out the Mors Pot and compare it head to head with this pot and you see you are throwing away $11 for an inferior product. Dave's pot is more expensive and not as good.
I am a big fan of Dave, the pathfinder school and store, but this product fails!

Hmmm... Made in China? No thanks... I was interested in his canteen cooker set, but if that's made in China as well, I'll find an American Made alternative. That's kinda disappointing that Dave sells his stuff at those prices and then outsources to foreign companies that promote slave labor.... Shame on you Mr. Canterbury, you lost a customer here.
One of de best pots i ever had was made in India,, at first i was gonna return it but kept it,, used it for many year's till it got lost in a move,, nowadays i don't care were it's made as long as its well made,, Maxpidition gear is made in Vietnam and it's some rugged stuff,, just my 3 cent's worth 💰
