  • Looking for unbiased and independent Ortieb saddle bag reviews? My latest saddle bag is the Ortlieb Saddle Bag M (1.3 Litre) which I talk about on this (independent review) video (you'll need to have your speakers on). Basically, although it holds a huge amount of essential / emergency stuff, I wouldn't store anything I need on a regular basis, basically because it's a hassle to get into it. But - because many reviews comment on the fact that it's missing anywhere to clip a rear brake light - check out my fantastic hack which not only solves the brake light problem but also solves another problem that bike riders have found. Find out the other reasons why I do and don't like this Ortlieb Saddle Bag Medium (1.3 Litre) (which I keep spelling wrong - as Ortleib saddlebag...).
Be sure to check out my other reviews, bike ride videos and the other (mainly Yorkshire) cycle ride segments - ideal for use at the gym on an indoor trainer, exercise bike, treadmill, cross trainer, etc! Most are in Yorkshire, but some are in Somerset and Derbyshire.

Ortlieb just came out with a new updated version of this saddle bag, and it looks as though they addressed the issues you had with your bag. Constructive criticism works. I almost bought this bag last year, glad I held off. I will be trying out the new version this year. Thanks for this upload and thanks for your constructive criticism.

Mount your ortlieb clamps to the seat rails past the bend so that your saddle bag is less less horizontal as the end points more upwards.

@@BevMattocks Where you place the seat rail clamp will depend on how you mount the bike, how log the saddle pack is and how flexible you are raise your leg up and over. If your clips ever do come undone and you have the clamps mounted further around the seat rails, the less likely it will be that something would fall out when you open the "dry bag" closure. Not sure what would happen if the fastex clips come undone, but it would help in that secenario.

Ortlieb have the saddle bag two now, however, I wish they did it in a 1L size as I'm a roadie so don't need a bigger sale bag, plus you can now add a rear light at the back of it.

I have had one of these bags for some time and from the time I purchased it i have wondered on the correct way to close it. Initially I rolled up the bag so that the reflector strip was visible but on a ride it would unravel and on one occasion the contents fell out. For a time i used reusable tie wraps to go through the rings and around the saddle bars to prevent the bag opening. This was obviously not how the bag was designed. Then i rolled the bag so that the reflector strip was not visible strangely the bag was more secure, also looked a neater shape and i didn't need the tie wraps.

I've stopped using it, use a Specialized bag now which is more user friendly

The weight is in your contents, not the bag.
