On The DNR Frontline: Ukraine's Failed Ceasefire (Part 1)

It's been five months since the second ceasefire was agreed between the Ukrainian government and the Russian-backed separatists of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). But this truce, much like the first, has not brought an end to the fighting.
Only a few days after this ceasefire was agreed, the DNR took the strategically important rail town of Debaltseve, trashing any hopes for a lasting ceasefire in the process. Since then, fighting has been constant. Dozens, possibly hundreds of civilians and soldiers have been killed, and serious efforts to get the peace agreement back on track have failed.
In late June, VICE News traveled back to eastern Ukraine to get a firsthand look at how it's business as usual for soldiers and civilians on both sides of the frontline.

They killed far more people than the Nazis. The reason why so many countries allies themselves with the Nazis is because they wanted to PROTECT themselves from the Soviet expansionists. They occupied and brutalized Half of Europe, Afghanistan, Korea, etc. to force Communism on everyone. The Afghans and the Finns defeated them and showed that small countries can defeat a big empire. RIP Ahmah Shah Massoud and Simo Hayha for defeating that devil. They killed 1.5M Afghans and made 1/3rd of the nation homeless. 40 Afghans every month are getting killed from Soviet-era PMF landmines. When does it end?

    "who keeps breaking the ceasefire?"
Both sides. The front-lines in some areas are only a couple hundred meters apart. If you go out to do a bit of scouting, you can get shot at because the other side sees it as an advance. Considering the relative unprofessional quality of soldiers (Volunteers and Conscripts) any one of them can get drunk are fire off a few rounds and start a fire-fight. A poorly-trained soldier could mean to return fire in against one group, and hit a nearby battalion. Hell, at that close distance you can trade fire without even leaving your positions. Since anything can trigger a shot, fire can be traded back for weeks with both sides thinking they're only retaliating. Not to mention there are people on both sides who want the cease-fire to fail.

Since Russian generals are so fucking stupid they would allow their men to wrap themselves in Russian flags and hold open their passport while they fight to prove they are Russian citizens invading another country. For all we know every single one of those terrorists were Russian soldiers in shit woodland gear. Russia has almost always been a backwards nation stuck in the past. Innovation starts in the west and very slowly moves eastward. Sad that it is still going on today.

    • @midas4925

You say that the western media is claiming the things you say. But if you look at the articles you linked the titles read _"Ukraine says [...]"_ and _"Ukraine's Poroshenko:«Putin the Pact-Breaker»"_ so those aren't really claims made by the western media, but claims made by Ukraine.
All the numbers concerning the possible number of soldiers is speculation, no one knows for sure. But that doesn't mean there aren't any.
In regards to videos of tanks and armed vehicles crossing the Russian-Ukraininan border: don't you think that having Russian tanks and Russian APC's on Ukrainian land isn't proof enough? I mean, they had to cross the border, in order for them to land up in Ukraine.

Please show how economic backing from the US state department during Euromaidan didn't at all effect the outcome of the ILLEGAL COUP. Please tell me how NATO was in control of every person who had the chance to become a leader, and phone calls leaked stating that Poroshenko was for sure going to go into power weeks before election. Now finally, please explain how it was fair for a democratically elected leader which a minimum of 51% of the nation was in favor of should have been removed from power in a violent coup. Please explain how this represented the people of Ukraine, or helped make Eastern Europe a more tolerant and enjoyable place.

Please, have a read and let me explain why this people call what they're fighting against "fascism" or "nazism". When a government oppresses you because of the language you speak, the ideas you support, and the cultural background you come from, it pretty much is close to nazism. Of course, it isn't nazism per se. But nazis persecuted jews because of their jewish ancestry and their ideas (judaism). The Ukrainian government targets Eastern Ukrainians that support Russia, come from a Russian background, or advocate to keep "Russian" as a second-language in Ukraine.
To me, that is no different than nazis persecuting jews. No doubt this is also a game of power and imperialism, not only from Russia, but also from the U.S. and EU. To see who has more control and influence over the continent. But, from my point of view, people from any country should have the right to support any idea they want, speak any language they want, and not be under persecution because of their cultural background. Any government that goes against that is like a nazi/fascist to me. Hence, Eastern Ukrainians calling their government and its supporters "nazi/fascists".

    • @benghazi9147
      @benghazi9147 Před 8 lety +11

Brandon Austria Interesting viewpoint. But the ending just shows how stupid they are. To claim that the Ukrainian population are fascists/Nazis just because they are joining the government's side in a fight against an armed rebellion, is just mental.
The only side backed by something that you can make a good case for is fascistic, is the DPR.
If you forget about the actual fascists and Nazis that make up the volunteer forces on both sides. The Vice have shown quite a few of those in this series

If they want to be Ukraine, go to Ukraine, apply for Citizenship there. Don't suddenly in a province that is within Ukraine borders take up arms and say "I want to be Russian and this province wants to be Russian with me." Its plain wrong and kind of weird. It would be the same if they in Vyborg (Russian town near Finland) says "We want to be a part of Finland" and then take up arms and starts taking over keypoints of that town (if it has any). I don't get it. All I understand is that Russia WAS being the hostile one when they supported the DNR and DNR now is a rogue state within Ukraine's borders who wants to become Russian.

So many people outraged over Russia and the DNR... one thing they don't realize is that no lines on a map are ever permanent, and that in the end, it is the powerful that triumph, not the ones who hold the moral high ground. One thing I took away from this conflict is that talk is very cheap. Every day I read about the Ukraine conflict, and every day I see how all it is is both sides trying to paint a different portrait while the same shit goes on in Ukraine every day. If you came here to vent about how bad Russia is or how they are hypocrites save yourself some time because it doesn't matter. In the end, every government is hypocritical and blindly consumed by it's own self interest, you only choose not to see it. The best you can do is save your outrage for your next cocktail party and leave the world of politics to those who know how things actually work. All these things happening are not something anyone can control.. they are a raging river and the best anyone can do is try to divert its flow to minimize damage.. but in the end whatever was supposed to happen will happen. I bet most people on here still think WW1 was started by Gavrillo Principe and that 9/11 was the cause of the war on terror. lol
