Holding The Line For Another DNR Assault: Ukraine's Failed Ceasefire (Part 2)

    After seeing the realities of the "ceasefire" in eastern Ukraine from the perspective of so-called Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) separatists, VICE News traveled across the defacto border to visit a number of Ukrainian positions near Donetsk international airport. The site was finally seized by DNR fighters in January after months of heavy fighting.
    Along this stretch of the frontline, to the northwest of Donetsk, fighting has been almost continuous throughout two ceasefire agreements, whole villages lie in ruins, and few civilians dare to stay.
    With its heavy industry and proximity to other major population centers in the Donetsk region, this area has long been speculated as a possible location for another DNR thrust. Yet so far the Ukrainian soldiers are holding the line.

    • @agitbeats
      @agitbeats Před 8 lety +5

      100vasiliy The main trigger of the Maidan coup was then-PM Yanukovich’s refusal to sign over Ukraine to the US/EU by adopting the Association Agreement (“AA”). The AA would have cost Ukraine $20 Billion in direct market adjustment costs, which Ukraine asked the EU to help with. The EU, being broke, having just bailed out the PIIGS, refused. Russia then offered cheap natural gas, a loan of $15 Billion, and a customs union.
      Only 39% of Kiev's government voted in favour of the EU Association Agreement... meaning 61% did NOT want to cut ties with Russia.
      Yanukovich accepted the Russian deal, so the US/EU ousted him and replaced him with the puppet Yatsenyuk.

    • @tank_3487
      @tank_3487 Před 8 lety +5

      ***** Main reason of Maidan coup was that Yanukovich never had any support in Kiev. He was voted by East regions votes(with slogans that he would make ties with Russia, defend Russian speaking population etc...). This is why democracy have been killed in Ukraine by maidan. Maidan know that they would have lost next election so pushed for coup.

Especially Simon Ostrovski did one of the best war reporting of events on Maidan and later of the invasion and occupation of Crimea and parts of Donbas.
      „Russian Roulet: the invasion of Ukraine”, and „Selfie soldiers”. Russian forces are in Ukraine and are responsible for invading the country. Putin is a f….g lies and his regime is responsable for everything you see on screen because he thinks that he should decide what happens to Ukraine not the Ukrainian people. @kreslokkd Před 2 lety +1

      @@orestmakar8562 bruh, did I tell anything that is against of what you said? And it's pretty obvious why Russia is defending these regions. Ukraine is not mononational and there are regions where you can be beaten if you speak ukranian language. There are western regions, where a lot of Polish and Hungarian people live, there are Eastern regions and regions like Odessa, where Russian people live, Odessa was a Soviet capital of Jewish people. There is actually not a lot of regions, where "real" Ukrainians live. And the first presidents of Ukraine postulated that every nationality will be treated evenly, there will be no actions against speaking Russian, you can Google these promises that were made when the Ukraine just became independent. But when these promises are being forgotten and the government basically tries to nationalise every aspect of life, removing Russian language, making nazis national heroes, forbidding to celebrate any Russian-related holidays and so on, even nationalising Church, it is no surprise that historically Russian populated regions will rebell against these. And it is no surprise that they were supported by Russia, because, as we say here, "своих не бросают", "we don't leave our guys behind". We basically tried to save Russian and friendly to Russian people in every local conflict possible, so it was no surprise that it will happen again. It is historically one of the main lines of Russian geopolitics, since the Russian Empire and "pan slavic idea". One of the last were balkans conflict, where we had to deploy troops to prevent genocide. And you can see that in each of these cases the destructive force was supported be Nato or its friends.

    "who keeps breaking the ceasefire?"
    Both sides. The front-lines in some areas are only a couple hundred meters apart. If you go out to do a bit of scouting, you can get shot at because the other side sees it as an advance. Considering the relative unprofessional quality of soldiers (Volunteers and Conscripts) any one of them can get drunk are fire off a few rounds and start a fire-fight. A poorly-trained soldier could mean to return fire in against one group, and hit a nearby battalion. Hell, at that close distance you can trade fire without even leaving your positions. Since anything can trigger a shot, fire can be traded back for weeks with both sides thinking they're only retaliating. Not to mention there are people on both sides who want the cease-fire to fail.

Before the situation will get solved (probably through some kind of diplomatic intervention), we will be a few years later, Ukraine might fall apart into two seperate countries and the economy will take an even harder hit. That being said, the west of Ukraine is actually very quiet and completely peaceful, so it's not all bad. However, many people have and still will die. It's a shame.

Или правосеков показывает с офигенно мирными инициативами.. "ну это.. мира не будет пока мы там всех под себя не положим... и что их там не устраивает не понятно"... а потом вообще про ядерную войну заговорил какой то маргинал.
