A great way to embellish a solo, thicken your sound, or create a lovely harmony, is by the use of double-stops. Simply put, a double-stop is a technique of playing two strings at the same time, usually on adjacent strings. Double-stops can also be referred to as dyads, “a pair of pitches sounding together.” Those who are familiar with the musical term, “triad” will know that the term relates to the basic major and minor chords that every guitar player knows. In one sense, dyads can be thought of as smaller versions of triads, but there is much more to it than the concept of “stacking thirds.”
In this class I will demonstrate how double-stop/dyads can be created from many of the chords you already know.
    We will:
    • create double-stops from common chord shapes.
    • understand how to create a harmony.
    • practical applications of double stops in rhythm and lead playing.
    • navigating CAGED variations using double stops.
    • Using thirds (major and minor) and other intervals.
    • make your guitar sound BIG.
    • we will use musical examples from artists such as The Ventures, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, The Beatles, and others.
