Let’s simplify things, if PR and settling in is your primary goal, then Canada is better. In the UK, you have to endure 5 years to earn PR (during those 5 years, you’re constantly worried you aren’t good enough in the eyes of your employer and could be easily fired if employed less than 2 years). Pay is higher in UK compared to pay in Canada (if you’re newbie) but in the long run pay in Canada as you build your Canadian experience will catch up, but they’re both low compared to the US. US beats every place when it comes to compensation and opportunities. But then the US downside is it’s horrible society (crimes, mass shooting, extreme racism, etc.)

Born and raised in the UK but lived in Southern Ontario for the last 23 years. Have to say that I don't agree that the weather is better in the UK, no way. Canada has long hot summers and the winters are getting milder with lots of sun. Compare that to the dreary wet weather of the UK. There's no contest.

As a Zimbabwean who emigrated to the UK, and looked at the choice of Canada too and even visited it a few times. I will give the perspective of someone from the developing world looking to emigrate, or Japa as they call it in Nigeria lol. I made a few observations:
    1) if your sole goal is to get a PR, Canada is a much easier path, Especially the student route.
    2) Canadian winters make UK winters seem like child's play. The place is COLD
    3) The UK is a much easier place to travel on holiday to loads of places. Trips to places like France, Portugal, Italy, Spain etc., are so convenient
    4) The Uk has London, and let’s be honest, Toronto can’t compete
    5) Canada in the urban centres is diverse, but the UK feels more of a diverse place
    6) Canada’s natural beauty is breathtaking tho
    7) if you have a tech background or seeking a tech role , the UK is far superior in terms of job opportunities
    8) if money is your goal then go to the UK
Lastly I will mention the quality of your experience in any new country really comes down to what you make of it and unfortunately how much you earn.

As a born and raised Canadian, I hate it here. We're basically USA with free healthcare but less money, opportunities, and choice compared to the US. Somehow Canada tries to be like the US and UK but cannot be either and instead is the worst of both worlds. It is so miserable in Canada. I didn't have to watch the video or read the comments to know that UK is vastly superior. Canada is the worst of all the developed countries. We do have beautiful nature but that's about it. I would love to move out and I have that plan in the future. Immigration to Canada is only easy because we desperately need the population and offer at least some incentive for people coming from developing countries that makes it worth suffering in this desolate freezing hellscape.

I had a longgg chat w an elderly person while waiting in the car shop getting my car done.. he was from UK and moved to Canada quite a while back he said in UK the customer service is really lacking and for transit u get no transfers on busses u gotta pay each time for a different bus.. anything extra in your meals like utensils, ketchup basics 10 pence.. outside of downtown Toronto Canada is open as hellll UK gets really crammed for driving.. hence transit is so popular also much colder in Canada a driving makes more sense than waiting at a bus stop for the bus in the BLOODY COLD (although not as cold as it was 10 years ago.. 20 years ago even colder!!!) I think Canada is slowly moving south as poles move 😎

Thanks for the video! I have lived in Toronto and now in Vancouver and weatherwise it is completely different it is mild and temperate and nice here and no winters really. Most winters the snow melts right away. It is an anomaly when it lasts for more than a few days and even if it does it is not very long compared to Toronto. That is probably why Vancouver is the most expensive city in Canada because of housing costs! The transit is better here than Toronto too and less urban sprawl in Vancouver. There is the ocean and mountains too which is probably another reason why it is so pricy here cause of the beauty. It guess comparing Uk's largest city which is London to the largest city in Canada which is Toronto make sense but Canada is so vast and varied so it is very different province to province climate wise. It is interesting you talk about recruiting (HR) too since that is what I am currently studying!

Been in Quebec for a week now visiting family. I live in the UK and it is so sad to admit that the UK beats Canada in the sense of feeling humane and the quality of life. Quebec is filled with people that look very depressed, interact less unless spoken to etc. It is very expensive to eat out here, you get poor customer service and people here love their space a whole lot.
Heard Toronto is better, hope so.
Canada beats UK by miles when it comes to job opportunities and no hidden or institutionalised racism exists here compared to the UK where there is a lot of pretence and worry about the preservation of the W race leading all business organisations. No one blocks or envies your opportunities to excel at work and you are valued highly for your work in Canada. The UK is the complete opposite.
And people in Quebec are not greedy at all unlike the UK where they are all about your pockets.
Having travelled over the world for decades, my observation is that no place is perfect and your finances will determine the quality of life you get. So have money and you'll get the best out of any country, hands down.

Canadian vs UK average holiday or annual leave time needs to also be considered in the job section…2weeks Canadian vs 5-6 weeks UK is a massive consideration

    • @Ash-vt5cp
      @Ash-vt5cp Před 10 dny

This 2 weeks figure does not include public holidays, while the 5.6 week (28 days) figure in the UK does. Canada has 12 statutory holidays, so it is 28 days (20 + 8) in UK vs 22 (10 + 12) in Canada, so a smaller difference. However, from my experience in the tech industry, UK companies are much more likely to give more than the minimum (typically 30-35 days) compared to canadian companies, who almost always just give the minimum required 22.

Great idea to compare UK and Canada and comparison points between the two were sometimes really interesting to hear!
However, I felt like the video was directed more towards the UK, I guess out of the interest? Of course traveling within Canada will be more expensive as it is 2nd largest country in the world! I would also like to hear comparison between different cities than Toronto and London, as they are the most populated and expensive, and average person probably wouldn't live there if you don't have highly paid job or your parents aren't extremely rich especially for London.
I've been living in the UK for over 4 years, originally coming from Czech Republic. Now I am at my 3rd year of uni and thinking of moving with my partner to Canada after studies to settle down, find good job in my field (UI/UX design) and enjoy the nature. The absence of nature and even gardens in the UK is personally killing me, there is no personal space, every lake, farm, forest has fence all over. Housing is indeed definitely more expensive here than in Canada from what I have seen when looking for rents. Because in Canada you can get a nice 2 bedroom house with garden for the same price as 1-bedroom flat in the UK in haunted, old, mouldy building (sorry!) without even any space to park! (thank god I don't have a car)
Also the safety here in most places is almost non-existent! Compare criminality in London vs Toronto, you will find cases of stabbing every single day. Living in a fear of getting stabbed or your children that would get stab is not real life, is it?
I guess it depends on personal preference and I of course don't have that canadian experience to compare both countries, but I would not consider UK as better place to live for reasons like clothes shopping, public transport and easy access to Europe. It's country mainly for studying and then moving somewhere else, maybe staying to get some job experience and then run. I would only enjoy living in Scotland, because it really is beautiful, people are friendly and nice to you and quality of living is definitely better there!

The homicide rate in the UK is literally lower than Canada so you have more chance of being murdered in Canada. I agree housing in Canada is significantly cheaper. In regards to countryside there is a lot in the UK, we don't have the amazing things like lake Louise and Niagara falls but everyone is pretty close to rolling hills and farmland and almost all farms have public footpaths that can be used to walk through them

@@ONLYJOKING101 Ok course I have been. Tbh I have been in more cities, towns and places and natural sighs than regular local people. I've been to and around Newcastle upon Tyne, Nethy Bridge, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Ullapool, Portree, Stornoway, Edinburgh, Southampton, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Cambridge, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, Leicester, Nottingham, Winchester, Bristol just to name a few :))))
I'm not saying there are no gardens, I am saying there is absence of them in the cities. Most of buildings are crammed together, most adults share flats with other 2 adults etc.
Gardens are compared to Canada here in the UK much much smaller, where you would never be able to fit a large pool with a sauna for example. People in my home country Czechia have larger gardens than here. But at least here are some nice restaurants and pubs where you can go :) although I miss forests and lakes where you could swim freely without people considering it a potential "life hazard of drowning"

It serves no use but to further establish that there are people that make enough money that they can give out some of it for free while others don't make enough that they have to accept "charity" or extra "thank you money" from their employer's customers. In a real civilization where we all made enough to live comfortable lives, a simple thank you and a few good words or praises would have been enough.

Affordable (cut the carbon tax, cut the construction delays and add Gold to CAD again), more festive in winter months (need to make sure it's also affordable), we need more stadiums and rock bands 🤩😎 been here 17 years.. we need better transit system especially in Toronto TTC outside of street cars is just trash compared to European systems.. we shoulda had 7 to 10 subway lines by now smh.. but if we got back to Canada of 2016 and earlier we might have been ahead for a while gotts get rid of JT and things will start shifting

I have a question. For someone looking to relocate to the uk for work. I am told that UK wouldn't give me room to save up as every single penny goes right back into paying taxes. I am also told accommodation is very much expensive as every penny earned is put into securing your accommodation for just 1 week.
PS: is housing rent paid weekly? What's the range fo price fot rent?
Please can you address these as it's giving me a hard to time deciding where to relocate to. As i have never been to either of the countries and don't know what to expect.🙏🙏🙏

  • @emphasisengineering
    @emphasisengineering Před rokem +5

People generally do not move to Canada for a better job or more money. It’s all about the lifestyle change. I know Aussie citizens and the working conditions are generally better in Australia than in Canada. The pay is a third higher and the healthcare system is better in Australia. They went to Canada because they wanted the lifestyle and environment that Canada has to offer, things they could not find in Australia or the UK they have citizenship. The cost of living in Australia is expensive - more expensive that some places in Ontario.
Don’t think for a minute that it’s all about finances because it isn’t at all! If it is all about money, you are better off in the UK.
Comparing the UK to Canada when it comes to shopping for groceries, nearly every service-related thing costs more in Canada for poorer quality. Canada could seem perennially 10-15 years behind the curve when compared to the UK in that regard.
I think it depends on where you live in each country. UK has become more expensive since Brexit.
For someone in a developing country moving to Canada could be more advantageous as you can move as a PR and will need just 3 years to apply for citizenship. You also do not to pay high fees to maintain your residence permit as you would in the UK.
In the end, it depends on what you want, why you are moving and what makes you happy.

Umm as a Aussie our healthcare system is very imperfect I don’t know where u got that info from it’s still expensive at the of the day medicine is crazy expensive in aus Canada has cheaper medicines and yes it is expensive overall in aus to live paying weekly for rent it’s really bad and the pay isn’t enough to a tourist it might seem enough but it really isn’t because at the end of the day clothes, food, household items plus daily necessities u need all add up and there not cheap either

I think Canada is excellent if you want to move to the USA after that. The UK is still an easy place to "penetrate" if you have an excellent in-demand skill like IT coding stuff but it's going for 10 years of stagflation because of Brexit. Unless a surprise free-trade deal with the US happens.
