    What in the inflation is going on? Whether it’s food, gas, clothes or rent - everything seems to be so expensive at the moment.
    Ohinga wanted to find some cheap recipes that celebrate Māori kai but still keep it easy on the budget. Aunty Trish has the hacks and is sharing some of her go-to Māori cheap eats that can be made at home.
    This is part of our reo Māori series, Ohinga, created by Mahi Tahi Media, with funding from Te Māngai Pāho and the NZ on Air Public Interest Journalism Fund.
    Stay tuned for a new episode every week.

    Yum! Simple. Nothing fancy but very tasty 😋 Bacon bones hit different too. We don't have boilup often but when we do, we go all out. Boilup for daaaays. Well...at least until the next day anyway 😄

    Very different way to make dough boys I add in the water from the boil up pot with a bit of butter but still looks delicious

      Our method is the same in the video but we make our dough boys round and only reason we cooked it separately so it doesn’t mash up before we get to serve it so everyone gets the same amount otherwise you those one’s saying ehhh he got more pork bones & spud than me lol 😂

      To avoid mash.
      Pork cook time here is 2 hours.
      Add root vegetables and watercress after 1 and a half hours of pork cooking.
      Add doe boys 20 minutes after vegetables, then let pot cook for its last 10 mins.
      Done all in 2 hours of pork cooking time with no messy mash.😊

    Can't you just boil the potato and kumara in the same big pot? How come it's separate??

    • @patrickwilson9783
      @patrickwilson9783 Před rokem +2

      Yes but make sure you soak the potatoes in water for like ten minutes otherwise your boil up juice will come out white

    I thought folks from New Zealand speak English? I couldn't understand most of what she said, but she speaks good English when she spoke it.

      You thought wrong Larry. Te reo Māori, the language of our indigenous peoples, is ONE of THREE official languages, with the other two being the UK english and NZ Sign Language.
      Kia pai to rā.

    • @user-oh4yd5uh4e
      @user-oh4yd5uh4e Před 6 měsíci

      UK English is no longer spoken in New Zealand. There is so much Te reo Maori mixed in nowdays that it has become gibberish.
      "This morning I left my whare. On the way to mahi I dropped my tamariki off at school. At work after lunch the boss gathered all of the employees together for a korero. On the way home I stopped at the supermarket to buy some kai. When I got home the whanau was waiting for me. I could feel the aroha. It was tu meke".
      THAT IS NOT UK ENGLISH. IT IS GIBBERISH:@@bigdaddyfatsaxx2232
