"next seat Jarmo" here hello, thanks for the game company Steve it was fun!
might I add that the Leafs prob heard that I didn't give them much hope against Bruins :D
hope to see you again tomorrow!
The U-18 World Championships will be played in Finland. The games start tomorrow, if you're interested in watching.
Thanks for putting this video up! I actually love that small arena feel! And you did a fine job videoing from down low. I had a tear in my eye as all of my grandparents came from Finland in the early 1900s to Minnesota. And I can see the resemblance of so many Finns that settled here in North East Minnesota when I was a boy in the 1960s and early 70s. I miss hearing that Finnish accent !
Leaving tropical paradise and going to cold, gray and slushy Finland.
yeah well i mean its Finland so ofc we still gonna get snow in april :D
Ah yes tropical paradise Denmark
@@3y01f9 It is compared to Finland. If you exclude Iceland, every single other country in the World has points which are closer to the equator.
Averageness is gray.
The "winter comeback" now is quite exceptional even in (Southern) Finland but it'll change soon.
Good take to return as you meant to. Spring festivities at the door as well, see if we'll have some good ol' sleet and good times of course.
@@3y01f9Ah those tropical- sandy beaches on Baltic- coast.
15:24 haha, "pussi" just means "bag". it's a 2€ bag of candy, probably sold at the arena
Awesome Work Guys!!! Greetings from Helsinki, Finlan🇫🇮🇨🇦🇫🇮🇨🇦
if you like old hockey arenas Tampere has the first hockey arena ever built in Finland. The Hakametsän jäähalli (officially known as Tampereen jäähalli) was the home arena for Tappara and Ilves from 1965 to 2021 when the Nokia Arena was built. Tampereen KooVee now uses it as their home arena in the second highest hockey league in Finland (Mestis)
On a different note about pelicans F1 driver Valtteri Bottas bought a stake in Pelicans a few years ago, when they were struggling
Who is from Lahti area, supporting his local town.
Bottas has apparently pumped a lot of money into Pelicans as well.
The arena is from the 70's and last renovation was in 2010
Yeah they are planning on a new multifunctional arena .. a bit like in Tampere but a bit smaller.
Pelicans goalie, Kokko is 20 years old!!!!
Wow!! I will remember his name... he may be in the NHL very soon
@@JetLagWarriors Seattle Krakens second round pick, number 58 in draft. Seattle has loaned him to Finnish league, i think AHL in next season. Has played Finnish youth teams, Niklas Kokko, under 20 years WM, I'm not sure under 18 years WM.
Love to see you guys fully kitted supporting your team!
Welocome back!
you living the dream, just travelling and watching sports. My dream
That guy is the assistant coach of Pelicans. Looks like the late Ray Stevenson.
That "Jim from Office" Coach is Yli-Junnila, he is the assistant coach. Some say he will be head coach next year, when the head coach Niemelä is going to Ilves.
After you following all those lesser teams, now we’re down to the two currently best ones in Finland. The ever so strong dynasty of Tappara and the well built and coached “David” in Pelicans :).
Ivana should film her own videos, showing some more interesting scenes 😄 Welcome home guys!!!
Nice move with the sunglasses on 3-0 😊
i love it but it feels like you brought the winter back with you
I made a note of the coach aswell, very well groomed handsome man! :D
Barn? That's one big ass barn 🤣It looks like an old hangar to me.
You should go watch a floorball final game in Helsinki this weekend, a sport that you won't see in Canada and that is a bit similar to hockey. I think you would find it entertaining!😊
Nr 19 in Pelicans Ryan Lasch has played in Frölunda (golden helmet).
Great seats great arena
I saw you at the TV yesterday when I watched the game. Many times when mid commentary interviews was being held on the bench.
Cant miss an Orange sitting Duck !
Pelican goalie struck it from the mid air !!!! Whatta save !!!
Great video I really enjoyed it 👍
Looking for more
Nice vid as always thx, very nice seats imo
I guess someone has already told you guys this but anyhoo: the first two syllables of Pelicans (pe-li) mean 'game', and stuff.
Too bad you dont get to see old Tampere icerink, first in Finland. When I was a kid, my dad always took me there ( Im Ilves man) . I remember hot sousage sellers on hallways with propa grills...... Im an old geezer now , and I miss those days.
I was there April 1982 seeing USA vs Canada with Wayne Gretzky. 5-6
@@yoretabio4537 😗
Hakamettä is open during the day so anybody can go there and look around
The coach of pelicans is the smaller one on the right
Looking forward to see you in G7 in Tampere :D
Nice to see you in my home town!
I saw you when i looked the game on tv
same
That can is like 1,50 in grocery stores :P
yeah those prices are rediculous... i once went to football game can of koff that was under euro in shops that time cost 5 euro..... tho i got in free ticket would have been 20 euros
Ha ha ! Ivana looks a little bit conserned. Here we sit on Tapparas costum in the middle of Pelicans fan 😅
Welcome back to Tampere, see you tomorrow in Arena
The David of this story, Pelicans, has been arming himself. I mean, they invested a lot for this season. They really decided that they want their last season silver to become gold this year. The media widely rated them ahead of Tappara before the season and since then, Pelicans has been investing even more. That squad isn't cheap. Probably cheaper than Tappara's squad, but the gap is marginal.
When you are back in Tampere, Hakametsä ice stadium is no-brainer if you have spare time. It's the predecessor of Nokia Arena and the most iconic venue in Finnish hockey.
I noticed you do "Tappara 3 - 1 Pelicans" when you type out the score, in Sweden and Finland, home team is always the first team, so it should be the other way around :)
great video!
Looks like you are cheering for Pelicans wearing a full Tappara outfit
Great vids! I have tickets for fridays match on same spot where you are on this video. Or at least on the same block and row. Making a vid of my own, but a lot simpler :D
Maybe we will see you there !! We have tickets too-- but I've forgotten which section. Usually we try to aim for someone around center ice
@@JetLagWarriors I´ll come to greet you if I see you :) I´ll be one of the many Pelicans shirted people, so propably won´t stand out too much 😄 Will be over 4 hour drive for me but hope it´s worth it.
The booking system was a bit off at least when I booked, could not pick a row like normally. When I go see the games I try to go to the higher rows to get a better angle.
By the way don't know if you noticed, but Pelicans defender Filip Kral played 2 games in Toronto Maple Leafs last season, thought as a Leafs fan you'd like to know😄
how would you compare Finnish and the swedish league against Canadian leagues belove NHL? and Small versus Large Rink?
"large" 28x58m (91,8x190,2ft)
One on the Pelicans players called Ben Blood is a Canadian iconic fighter here in Finland!
He’s american
@@3y01f9 oh my bad, i think i got wrong since i think Blood played hockey in Canada once
Finnesota. Axenation Worldwide*, right.
(*Was effective as a player + media guru for Tappara some years ago as well. Wonderful smile with mouthguard on.)
I found myself on camera 😂
You need to try food called "lihamuki" in lahti
I see you in the game
Eero Saarinen's design for the Ingalls Rink was included on the America's Favorite Architecture list, created in 2007 by the American Institute of Architects. Let's listen what's said about it: "How Eero Saarinen Imagined the Ingalls Rink at Yale".
He IS most known Saarinen IS for " The Arch " at St Louis - home of The NHL BLUES ! Note Patrik LAINE scored 5 goals on GOALIE Allen - and he was replaced by Binnington ! The Year They Won The Stanley Cup ! TRUE Story
About Cinderella-stories and as you love goalies, I have to give you the story of the Pelicans goalie, Niklas Kokko.
He has been the northern prodigy, often seen as the new Pekka Rinne (long time goalie for Predators in the NHL). He played his junior year in Oulu for Kärpät. This year he attended the U20 WC as the goalie for Finland and he was supposed to be alternating turns with the other in Kärpät goalie, but when he came back from the U20 WC after new year, he didn't have a locker room spot as Kärpät had signed "old and reliable" Tomi Karhunen for the rest of the season. After seeing that he didn't have a spot to show his skills and improve, he was traded to Pelicans in the spring and boy, it has been a show and he has been loving the environment and the responsibility he has been granted!
Pelicans had their problems with goalies early in the year as their no.1 goalie was traded early in autumn to Switzerland, I guess following the bigger bag of money and their other goalie getting injured. Niklas came in at the right time to show that despite his young age (turned 20 recently) he has the skills and will to be a superstar in the future. He even overcame Kärpät in the semi-finals and is the story of the spring here in Finland.
He has a contract(and was drafter as #58 overall) to Seattle Kraken and is here in Finland to improve before taking the leap over to NHL. I think I speak on behalf of all Pelicans fans, thank you for choosing us and you are welcome as well! :)
By the way, awesome vlogs! I love the content, keep it up and congrats about the baby on the way!
you should do this every year
Yeah there is no slary cap, i hope Tappara doesnt make the league to force it :D
Lahti is the Chigago of Finland. People use lots of speed there and it is good, I have snorted it.
SaiPa for the win next season 🤣
Tappara 4ever💙🧡
Hi! We sent you an email a few weeks ago! Have you seen it? Looking forward to hearing from you! 💜💜
I would love to know how they can afford this, it's bloody expensive to fly from Canada to Finland and vice versa, I know I've made that trip before 😅
If you ever get to the Netherlands, then apart from Amsterdam, you should totally visit Haarlem 😊
Talk to the local fans more. It's gonna make the videos so much more authentic:)
Are you excited when the Leafs won the second game in Boston?Let's hope they beat the Bruins!😊
Santa Claus's Hometown🎉
You forgot the right pronuncation. The town Tampere is not Tampére its Támpere. This rule applies to all words in finnish. The accent on the first syllable.
now Ivana loves hockey.... hahaha
@19:47 was very fun and troll
tappara player budget 3,25 million € and pelicans player budget 2,65 million €. there is 600k differens in there.
Tappara❤
You should check out oulun kärpät in Oulu
Their season is over though.
soft spot for what? :)
How much do you pay for beer in Canada if 8 euros for 330ml can is not bad :)
well, for example when I visited in Tampa to see the game 6 years ago, pint of beer was 19 USD. Might have gone up with the inflation :D same price was in the Panthers rink as well.
U still in Lahti? Need some tips?
The best tip anyone can give them is to leave Lahti before it gets dark and the natives crawl out of their holes
Back to full winter, eh? 😂
@@EpicHashTime u must be Tappara fan
@@EpicHashTime Even though I live in Lahti, I kind of understand your tip :D
True@@EpicHashTime
Why Tappara?
Im tappara fan but also a hockey romantic so im hoping all the best for pelicans! I wouldnt mind pelicans winning in the bigger picture even tho im on tapparas side by default. I want close series and in playoffs its simple how a better team wins, so it doesnt matter to cheer for both. Steve, youre a hockey romantic and cheer for the hockey not just a team =) btw im jealous of the gear you got haha 😂
What i mean is that you and i maybe are tappara fans on the paper, but fans of great hockey in reality. The term is hockey romantic since what wouldnt be cooler story than underdogs winning the championship. Cheer for both for the hockey sake and dont focus which side youre on paper. I Love to see the enthusiasm n love towards the sport! 🧡💙🧡💙
Some arenas in smaller cities are certainly more modest than the ones in big cities with richer and more prevalent teams
That's not to say smaller city teams can't win the cup though
If Pelicans win the series, you MUST go to the Lahti city center to observe the celebrations.
Haha, it's so funny how you're pretending to be supporting Tappara xD
rather mundane country and game, look forward when you reach interesting shores and folks.
Happy travels
Jarmo maybe went a bit too far on Pelicans being the David. I mean, sure, Pelicans is smaller than Tappara by many metrics, but so are most of the teams in the league.
Lahti is not a small town by Finnish standards (over 100k people after all) and Pelicans' budget is probably in the top 6 and so was their expected position prior to the season. Granted Pelicans wasn't in the top 3 favourites of many last autumn (those were mostly Tappara, HIFK, and Ilves), but they played in the finals last year as well. It's not a "small" team by any means and I would not call it a Cinderella story. KalPa was kinda making one this season but they were cut short.
A small team in the Finnish Liiga would be a team like Jukurit or SaiPa in terms of population and budget.
You shoud go see football in finland
Go watch u18 world championships
8 euros for a small Danish water lager, yuck!
Heineken is dutch
@ninaakari5181 you are right 💯👍🔥
Refeerees always help tappara so that way they winning so much in legue like two game row no penalty and enemy's get like 5-10 penalty. 🥱🤔🥱🫣😮💨🤬💩
Cry more
My wife and I want to go to Finland someday, which is the best place and season shall we go?thanks. I am a Chinese
June to September are awesome. If you like winter then january - february. Helsinki is a nice city, and also Tampere, Turku and Kuopio for more authentic finnish town experience with great nature all around. In Kuopio the people are super friendly and authentic, almost 0 turists there. Superb nature. Have fun!
