I have no trouble with the scar across the length of the lid. But this other that crosses it. Has left additional droop in corner of eyes. It’s been two years. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Melissa Saal,
      While my patients don't use silicone gel after surgery, antibiotic ointment, followed by a petrolatum ointment like Aquaphor after two days can be applied to the incision line with Q-Tip. As for sunscreen, you can apply it normally while avoiding the eye area and the incision. For washing, make sure the stream of the shower is not hitting the incision directly. For further details, you should consult your surgeon who knows about the details of your surgery, and where you are in the healing process. I hope this helps you.

    Would you recommend using an LED device after any type of surgical procedure to help in the stimulation of collagen? Or would that put you at increased risk of keloid scarring?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Paige Lackey,
      While I don't use thermal devices in general to help with healing after surgery, I do use them for non-surgical treatments, and to improve results of surgery for skin tightening, skin resurfacing, etc. However, I don't use LED-based devices in my practice at all. It's also important to understand that collagen is produced by the body on its own to help heal after surgery, and there is a limit to how much collagen you can stimulate at a given time. Temporary swelling after eyelid surgery has a lot to do with disorganized collagen fibers, and swelling resolves as the collagen fibers flatten. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Please help. I just had a facelift in Mexico with upper and lower blephoplasty and lateral brow lift. My eyelids are not closing properly and I have to wear gell at night in them. My eyes look weird and not symmetrical. I sought an eye surgeon second opinion who believes that too much skin was taken from the top lids. Now at 3 weeks, my surgen wants me to massage all around the eyes to create more laxity. I have been massaging the scars which still hurt from the cut a little, on the upper lids in hopes of creating more laxity. I do feel that they are getting more inflamed. My question is would you ever recommend massage at this point, to the scar or around it to create more laxity?

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před rokem

      Hi @beingyourtrueselfcoaching7403,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. I generally don't advise my patients to massage their eye area after cosmetic eyelid surgery because the first I do is ensure that too much skin is not excised, as eyelid skin is important for normal eyelid function. I would have to examine your eyelids, and see medical records of your previous surgery before I can give you a proper second opinion for your case. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi, I had my blepharoplastic surgery about 2 weeks ago now, and my doctor said it was okay to put make up on top of the scar 2 days after removing the stitches, which I have been doing since I don't want to show myself the way I look in public with the scar. My scar is quite thick but mostly underneath the incision and on the outermost edges of the incision where the sticthes ended I have raised bumps. My doctor recommended prosil to use morning and night and underneath make up. I'm terrified that this thickness wont go away in time since I can't properly open my eyes fully since the incision was made right in the crease. So my question now is, do you think my healing process will be affected negatively if I put on make up and this scar treatment cream on most days of the week? I have no history of keloid scars previously but this thickness I have now I'm scared won't go away.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Helena engström,
      Generally, 1-2 days after suture removal, the eyelid incision should be closed, and makeup can be applied. However, makeup particles can be very small, older makeup does contain bacteria, and people heal at different rates, so it is possible that it can be affecting your eyelids. I advise you stop using makeup if you experience any irritation, and consider changing to new makeup reduce possibility of bacteria from old makeup. See your doctor if there are any problems. Also, you should not be using antibiotic cream by now for the incision to reduce chances of an allergic reaction. You can watch this video about it - czcams.com/video/4c1ZMhxXfYQ/video.html

      Hi Suzie Henyan,
      For treating hooded eyes, I mostly use non-dissolvable sutures, which are then removed a week later. For some patients, if a predictably outcome can still be achieved with dissolving sutures, then I would use them. The type of suture use should not be the basis of choosing a surgeon, as it's the doctor's aesthetic style, results (including avoiding scarring), as well as your personal rapport with the surgeon that should be the basis for choosing a surgeon. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi Dr. Prasad, thank you so much for your videos. I have 2 questions I am hoping you can answer. Some background first, I got an upper blephorplasty and upper eyelid fat grafting. It’s been over 2 months since the blephorplasty surgery and over 1.5 months since the second fat grafting procedure (which was needed because the majority of the fat from first round didn’t hold, the second round held up much better).
    Question 1 - why do eyes that have had fat grafting potentially look different day to day? I’ve noticed on days I get less sleep my upper eyelids now have less fullness and show more folds, but after days of getting good sleep, there’s more fullness
    Question 2- it’s been 2 months but I’ve still been avoiding washing, rubbing, or putting makeup/sunscreen on my upper eyes.I’ve been extra careful because I was told full healing takes up to 6months and I was to preserve as much of the fat as possible. How long should I wait to resume washing my eyes and using makeup/sunscreen, what’s the best action to try and retain as much fat from the upper eyelid fat graft as possible?
    Thank you so much in advance!!

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi @Artyhugby,
      1) the results of fat grafting behind the upper eyelid should not appear different depending on the amount of sleep you had.
      2) Two months after surgery is usually safe for my patients to apply makeup, and sunscreen to the upper eyelids, but this is a question you should be asking your surgeon as they know details of how your surgery was performed, where you are in your healing process, and can examine your eyelids for any issues before you start using makeup and sunscreen. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Thank you for the video Dr! I have a question here which I hope you would give me some advice. I'm on Day 4 of my second incisional upper eyelid surgery. The first one failed after about 3 months where the double eyelids slowly faded and turned back to my original hooded eyelids. Nonetheless, the scar from my first surgery was healing very nicely and it's almost invisible after 9 months so I'm not sure if the failure is due to the use of Anti-scar gel as I was putting it religiously 2 times a day every day since 2 days after my stitches were removed. Hence, this time I'm contemplating if I should use a scar gel even though it's recommended by my surgeon. I would really appreciate it if you could answer me ❤️

      I have my patients use Aquaphor after two days, to replace antibiotic ointment, or anti-scar gel. As you are not my patient, you should ask your surgeon about this as he is responsible for your outcome. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Daisy Fish,
      Lower eyelid retraction is common if there was an external incision on the lower eyelid to remove the fat, and if lower eyelid skin was removed the during lower eyelid surgery. These techniques are very common in lower eyelid surgery, although I do avoid both completely by removing fat from the inside of the eyelid with no external incision. You can follow up with your surgeon about the details of your surgery, and be guided if massage can help relieve some of the tightness under your eyes. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Heather Berry,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. I would have to examine your eyelids before making any specific recommendations. However, I strongly advise against fat transfer in the lower eyelids because the thin skin of lower eyelids can reveal inconsistencies of fat, fat needs a blood supply to take to this area, which it often does not, and the common complications of fat grafting into thin lower eyelid skin are complex and expensive to revise. I have made these videos about the complications of grafting fat to the lower eyelids:

    i had upper blepharoplasty 4 weeks ago. On third week, i noticed that the scar formation underneath the skin was thick at parts of the incision line. I was informed that scars heal better with pressure and that you can massage your incision line from upper blepharoplasty... so I applied a bit of pressure with my fingers and massaged that area in a circular motion at those points where I felt there was probably more collagen production ... now (at 4 weeks) at the end of the incision line (lateral) of one of my eye, the scar doesn't seem to be healing as nicely as the other eye (the lateral part of the incision line seems a bit raised than the other eye and right now underneath the skin of the area is harder than the other eye) Both eyes' incision lines still looks pink. Of note, I clean the incision line with salt water several times a day and apply prosil to the area; so I keep the area clean. My question is, by applying that pressure and massaging the area x 1 time, would that affect scar healing? Did I cause the healing of my one eye to be worse?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi aloe vera,
      I don't advise my patients to massage their upper eyelids after surgery, and I don't advise anything at the incision line at this point other than a petrolatum-based ointment. Antiobiotic ointment at this point can cause contact dermatitis which leads to more swelling and irritation. Also at 2 weeks, then at 4 weeks, I see patients at follow up to see how their healing is going. I think you need to follow up with your doctor as I have not seen your eyelids, nor do I know details of your surgery. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 2 lety

      Hi lalrinsanga fanai,
      You are still very early in your healing after surgery, with collagen fibers possibly still disorganized, making the incision area seem thicker. These fibers start to organize and flatten after about a month after surgery, so it should improve with time. If you have concerns, you can have your surgeon examine your healing progress. You can refer to this more recent video about healing after upper eeylid surgery - czcams.com/video/dMq7UNewiQI/video.html

    Doctor, is it okay to apply CeraVe healing ointment on my scar from upper blepharoplasty? I had my stiches removed 7 days ago after the surgery and now is day 12.
    In the morning, I apply zinc sunscreen on my upper eyelids to protect the scars from the sun but then when I wash it of with gentle saop at night, my eyelids feel dry so I lubricate them with this CeraVe petrolatum ointment...it feels good.
    Is my routine oksy? Would you approve?

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi nasty badger,
      I do recommend petrolatum-based ointments after the first two days of eyelid surgery, and antiobiotic ointment only for the first two days to prevent an allergic reaction, so what you are doing is in line with what I normally recommend. Hi Jamie,
      I don't advise you use tape as it can affect normal healing, and removing it can affect the surgical work you just spent a lot of money on. @@AmiyaPrasadMD A surgeon on CZcams, suggested bio-oil and silicone gel to aid in healing the scar under the lower lash if done that way. Do you agree? I am getting lower bhelp next month. After researching for months and having a consult with a top facial surgeon in NY and one in N.J., I settled on a third in N.J. who is a oculoplastic surgeon. He said he has been trained both ways. He has a special technique where he does not remove or replace fat but repositions it whereas giving his patients a checklift in the process because this is part of the technique. But he does cut under lower lash. He has been doing this for 40 + years. Looking at photos of his before and afters I see no scars whatsoever. I am worried about the scar issue tho as nothing is guaranteed and would prefer it done from the inside but I will put my trust in his experience. The added bonus of the cheek lift was quite remarkable seeing the results on his patients. BTW thank you for your time and speedy replies.

      I still recommend antibiotic ointment for the first 2 days after surgery, followed by non-greasy petrolatum like Aquaphor by the third day. Hi I had surgery 2 weeks ago almost 3 and I have major concerns. First my incisions were made very widely because I had a lot of fat and my left incision was made wider and because of that my eyes are uneven. My left eye is still healing but most of the swelling is gone the way that my incision was made on my left eye makes it to where my eye will not close my right eye is perfect compared to my left also by the way my incision was made on my left eye it makes my left eye look lazy now I have told my surgeon about this and I was told in about 6 to 8 weeks that’s when my muscles gone start doing something but what I don’t get is how is my eyelids gonna close if it’s not enough of skin on my eyelids. My eyelids have been the same since I got out of surgery they still not close the only way to make them close all the way is if I force them and if I do it gently then that’s when you see the white part when I kinda pull my left eyelid down it looks like I’m pulling my left eyelid to tight because alil to much skin was removed. Can you please get back to me because I’m very concerned. Can I get your opinion on this.

    I did my eyelid surgery 14 days ago. My doctor opened the first layer of stitch after 6 days and the next week he opened the rest of the stitch. My eyes are still puffy and a little swelled but I don't feel any discomfort. My doctor said it's better if I apply makeup after 2 weeks from now which will almost be like 4 weeks from the day of my eyelid surgery. So my only question is that I have to attend a party after 3 days and can I wear make up on that day, it will only be for like 6 hours but I'm also scared??????

      Aquaphor is used to protect the skin and incision while it's healing, so my patients only use it for about a week after surgery. If the skin has healed over the incision, then it's no longer needed. I suggest you see your surgeon in follow up to monitor how you are healing as that is still part of your surgeon's responsibility to you as a patient. I hope this helps you.
