Piccolo is the embodiment of the joke/observation that grandparents are always nicer to their grandchildren than they were to their children.
Exactly if you notice he trains Pan differently compared to how rough he was with Gohan.

It was also before Piccolo redeemed himself. He was still in the I'm the son/reincarnation of the Demon Lord mindset. Though with Pan just the way he is talking to her is much softer compared to the way addresses normally Gohan.

There isn't as much riding on their interaction. There are threats to Pans world, but Gohan was being groomed to be Earth's sole protector. Who else? Tien?
Plus Piccolo understood that getting Gohan to respond was through dire straits. He was pampered up until that point and had no self reliance. But Piccolo was well aware that Goku could handle himself at 4, why not Gohan? Thus, training
With the next generation comes gifts. It's not that Pan needs fly at three, she needs to hone the things she's good at. Plus there isn't really a need for her to fly at that age, but to understand that there ARE hard things to hone in and master
What good is it to approach the symphony when you're naturally competent at arpeggios? You learn harmony and experimentation for your own music when you practice practice practice. The gaps will be filled with experience

Say what you will about this movie, but it was refreshing to see characters other than Goku and Vegeta finally get the lime light and have relevance in a fight against a world-ending power. Not to mention that Piccolo totally deserves to get this much screen time and a powerup. He's literally taking care of Goku's family and training them while he's off somewhere else.
Honestly there's a handful of old DBZ movies like it, but I'd be totally fine with a series of just the "B-team" having adventures and sending the saiyans off to some contrivance.
@@oshkeet It seems like Daima will attempt to return to some of that old adventure style of the original series and GT at least. Not sure how I feel about them all just getting younger again, but at least the Saiyans can't be the only relevant characters anymore I suppose.
Dragon Ball Super heroes is one of the best DBZ movies. And the 3d animation sort of worked here. The fight scenes are still clean. And Piccolo getting a power-up was one of the best scene. The beast Gohan felt like an asspull but we've always been teased how Gohan still is the one with the most potential. While the Gotenks duo also have this, it seems they want less of the fighting and more of living a life of their own. Piccolo's transformation is also adding some of the lore about the nameks. They are supposed to be descendants of the dragon god. And the Nameks are not a violent race. Only the original Piccolo showed this kind of violence and by then he split himself into Kami and this Piccolo in which he still wasn't as bad as the first Piccolo. He then became a guardian of earth and even with Dende, he acts as the secondary Kami. The Earth's dragonball still probably hangs on his existence that's why Shenron "added an extra" as a reward for being the dragonball's/earth guardian.

Honestly, I like that Piccolo's response to Pan saying that flying is hard is, "Of course it's hard." This sets the expectation that it's ok to struggle with it, because she should be struggling with it. If it was easy, Yajirobi could do it.
Goten didn't learn to fly until he was 7. LOL
I love how he has a sweet nurturing tone when he says that.

What I loved about this movie was that it waa just a fun celebration of the little family that developed. Remember, Piccolo was alone, he had no one. And now he has all these people who genuinely love him.

I see a lot of people say pan reminds them of goku, but honestly she reminds me a lot of her mother videl. These training scenes with piccolo and the way she happily helped out later remind me a lot of videl in the buu arc when she was training for the tournament and learning how to fly.
I agree.. she reminded me of how kid goku used to fight it's so cool.. apparently she learns quick.. even shocked piccolo he had to use more force to stop her..

Infact, the movie was initially supposed to only have Piccolo as the main character. However, it was changed later on to include Gohan as an MC well.

tbf I think she takes it after her mother videl because she had that sort of drive back in the majin buu saga and well with each generation of half breeds they tend to be/have stronger potential than full blood sayians if trained hard enough
I absolutely love how endearing they make some of these scenes in Dragonball. Piccolo trained (kind of raised) Gohan, now he's training Gohans kid. And hell even Beerus gets in on it when he babysits Pan during the Broly movie. Safest kid in the universe right there.

It's honestly impressive how quickly this movie endeared me to Pan. She immediately stole my heart. She's adorable.

Similar to how some people can swim perfectly as infants but then lose the ability to do so later, I'm guessing that she simply didn't retain all the information from back then and now has to focus in order to relearn it
Piccolo's great. He's realistic, but also immensely supportive. Pan, too, is fantastic in Super Hero. So much better than GT's Pan. She's spunky, but not bratty. She's considerate and caring. This is the Piccolo and Pan I want to see more of.
Well Piccolo experienced firsthand with the father and son how both trained and learned. The thing is Piccolo is one of the most active fighters in the cast. He actually fights with his brain but doesn't have the luxury of the Saiyan blood like vegeta. Goku is also smart in fighting but when the tides become against his favour, he starts fighting on instinct. Gohan on the otherhand, fights like Piccolo but less bravado compared to vegeta. He can get cocky but fights with his head all the time. Pan might be another prodigy like Goku or Gohan. Piccolo doesn't have to push her like he did with Gohan because he knows at some point her hidden potential will show up on its own.
I love the fact that in this movie piccolo is the protagonist and is all about him caring about his family

Grandpa Piccolo is perfection. I love that this movie showed how close he was to Gohan. They’re the real Father/son team
This Pan is perfect, her pre flight movement is beautiful, the power she has from breaking the rock and bark on the tree, although Piccolo obviously isn’t trying, you can tell she surprised him enough to unfold his arms, and to tank an attack like that. 🔥 So tough and just as adorable.

Piccolo deserved the glow up he received in this movie. I wish they did a spin-off series that focuses on what everyone is doing while Goku and Vegeta are training. Give them screen time and power ups, to keep them relevant. They don’t need to be drastic power ups, but something like Krillin wishing himself to King Kai and learning a new technique. Or Yamcha incorporating his baseball skills into his fighting.

One of the best dragon ball movies and in my opinion the best one. Glad that Pan is finally being aged up looking forward to seeing what her true potential will be some day. If she keeps the same type of personality that she has in this movie she is going to outshine all the other hybrid saiyans.
This movie was such a breath of fresh air. It felt almost like a classic DBZ movie.
It's better than other Dbz classics as it had build-up and some lore from the series that mattered.

I'm not gonna lie when i watched the movie i liked the CGI way more than i thought i would. It's sad that Dragon Ball Super writing isn't always good, but it's always nice to have these kinds of wholesome moments. Piccolo is really a good father figure.

I’m glad Pan is allowed to fight. The reason Gohan wasn’t was because Chichi’s family was poor, especially since Saiyans eat so much, they were always struggling financially. Chichi wanted Gohan to be a scholar so that he could earn money in a successful career. But since Videl’s family is rich, they don’t have that same mindset, so Pan is allowed to fight instead of just studying. She’ll be one hell of a fighter in the future.

Who did the animations for Pan in this scene was spot on and made her just adorable, the voice acting was the cherry on top.
Pan is such a cheerful and energetic girl, she also likes training and wants to improve her skills just for fun, she really has that Saiyan actitude in her. Honestly feels more like Goku's kid than Gohan was.

Yes, but we cannot forget she also has Videl's willingness to act and energy, combined that with the complete purity of Gohan, you get someone who, with good enough writing, may not get shafted as much like her two parents, who were great characters in and that of themselves.

Anyway, i can see pan taking after Hercule and being an immensely popular and powerful heroine and eventual world president in her later years.

Crazy thing is Piccolo could spawn his own child but he doesn't want to. Guess he's content what he has now. He sees Dende as a younger brother figure I could tell

Namekians can live for a very long time. Kami landed on earth 400 plus years before Goku was born. He won’t need to reproduce any time soon. Piccolo will outlive the saiyan bloodline in universe 7.
Pan/Videl seiyuu has always being one of my favorites. Such a shame she didn't have bigger roles in Dragon Ball series.
She's great as Farah in Tales of Eternia and best girl Momiji in Ninja Gaiden though.
She's also Hotaru Tomoe/Sailor Saturn in the 90s Sailor Moon series.
While I do agree Picclo is a good father type character I do believe that just shows how amazing of a teacher he is! While Goku and Gohan are awsome fathers in their own respects they obviously dont always have time to teach their kids cause of work or needing to train to protect the planet/universe. Picclo though is the best damn teacher there is, he encourages his students while still allowing them to struggle and learn from it. He is kinda taking the spot Master Roshi had without all the unnecessary antics. I loved the movie and I cant wait for more from DragonBall
The overall movie is like a 8/10 but when Piccolo and Pam are on screen together it's a 10/10 I absolutely loved these two in this movie

DB completely forgetting that Bukujutsu (Dancing Sky Art) was considered amongst the most advanced Ki techniques in the original series, even Master Roshi hadn't learnt it and it was originally introduced as a unique technique only known to the Crane School of Martial Arts. It took Goku and Krillin over 3 years to learn the ability (compared to Goku instantly learning Kamehameha by looking at it) and even then Krillin could barely wobble through the air and Goku could only go in straight lines. Goku only won the Tenkaichi Budokai (finally) at his 3rd attempt because nobody knew that he had secretly learnt the technique and the surprise from it gave him the opening to finally beat Piccolo/Ma Jnr.
Bit off for it to now be considered easier than Ki balls....
Piccolo don't use bukujutsu, which is a technique made by Tsuru, and he literally says to Goku before fighting Raditz that his flying technique is superior (faster and doesn't drain as much ki as bukujutsu, Goku still needed kintoun to fly fast for long distances), then in Freeza arc we learn from Dende that Namekian children all learn this technique very young so they can all fly.
That technique is probably what he's teaching Pan and what he teached Gohan.
This brings me back to the gohan and piccolo training

This scene is actually wholesome. I mean wow 😲 I love the relationship between Piccolo and Gohan. And to see piccolo the same with pan just shows the true affection and all. I would love to see pan fight with bulla too. I also want to see bulla as a fighter ( if there's any future season) Vegeta and Gohan are my favorite characters btw. I would love if bulla grows up to be more like her father😅
