For the price point alone, everything is forgiven. It's targeted for the middle income folks and city dwellers. No frills and no drama. You want refinement and everything else, look elsewhere. The overall whole package is good with adequate tech. 1 ltr turbo with 7 speed make up is a blessing. You are assured of smooth transmission and fuel saving, provided you don't drive like Sir Lewis Hamilton. All in all, Perodua has hit a home run with this model

Went to test drive the Ativa and was really surprised at how small it is. Not sure why people keep comparing it to X50 coz the Ativa is much smaller than X50. Ativa's interior is even smaller than Myvi.
Coming from my daily drivers of Saga and Myvi, I would say Ativa's ride quality is in between the two. It is definitely not as bad as Myvi but not quite Proton level. The refinement is definitely there compared to past Perodua cars. However, there are still alot of hard plastic that we expect. Sitting in the Ativa didn't give me a wow and I didn't feel that I am sitting in a more luxurious car.
Ativa's power is similar to Myvi so you get alot of power from 0-30 and then the acceleration slows down considerably. It does not compare to the X50 in terms of power and acceleration.
Overall, II personally don't think that Ativa is not a direct competitor of X50, but a direct competitor of Myvi and the big 3 Japanese B segment cars (Almera, vios, City). I don't see how the Ativa can compare to X50 in any objective category except for fuel consumption and maintenance fees (and road tax ofc).
Put it this way: if you want a more refined Myvi, get the Ativa. If you want a more luxurious Ativa, get the X50.

Based on the latest definition regarding Level 2 Autonomous driving from SAE, the adaptive cruise control and lane-centering is enough to claim as Level 2. I thought you are correct at first, but when I research for it, Ativa is eligible to claim that it's capable of Level 2 autonomous driving.

Hi Adrian, as usual your commendable reviews on vehicles is very through but let me add one point to your comment on the full size spare tyre at 4.35 as i had the experience of accidentally running over a metal shard lying on the road and from it looked like a fallen leaf, until it was too late. NO tyre repair kit can solve the tear to the side wall and it was immediate deflation! So luckily my car (2008 toyota rush) was equipped with a standard tyre, so i was able to change the tyre and have the ruined tyre changed. ! so please all car manufacturers pleezzze fit out a spare be it an emergency type or with standard rim!!!

Because the most important port in Malaysia is Port Klang, doesn't make logistic & business sense if a factory is set up in EM. If it is situated in EM, logistic cost to be shipped to WM will make the price uncompetitive.

As a Almera Turbo owner, I urge you to test drive the all new Almera as well ya, you will probably impress by how quiet, how refined and how effortless to pick up in town, compare to other B segment car at similar price range.
Ativa on the other hand, I felt that the engine noise is significant louder and rougher compare to my car, and I recall that Mazda 2 have better overall refinement compare to Ativa.
In summary, Ativa have one of the best features and specs in its price range, but when comes to overall refinement, you can't expect too much 😊
