  • Aerges Mirage F1CE recently had an update and I took a look at the basic flight dynamics, turn rates, yaw behavior at high AOA, and landings. This is solely from a flight characteristics perspective.
    Video contains small inaccuracies with regards to procedures (pitch and flare AOA, and both half and full flap takeoffs), please check this video for updates:

    Thanks a lot for taking the time to these videos. I have the F1 for a year and it is absolutely my go-to plane. Aerges is doing an awesome job. I wish we had the mighty Mirage III full fidelity btw.

    I have noticed improvements over time. I’ll have to check the latest. Been flying the F-14 and enjoying it because it too is a much manual aircraft that you have to control in the turns when dogfighting.

    Hello mate. Nice video. I would like to notify that nose attitude during rotation and after take off should be 12 degrees. Moreover I would recommend you for landing to use V App HUD mode, cause you will have speed vector available, as well as the gun piper giving you the 10 deg AoA and the -2.5 deg line to intercept and maintain the optimum glide slope for the touch down point. Closing, the max permitted AoA after touch down during aerodynamic braking is 15 degrees. Optimal during flare and after touch down is 13.

      @@Pt334Pt its true, tailstrike is at 17 deg, not 13 (I mixed it up with another plane). So the numbers you stated for rotation and flare are accurate. Post roration is from Mirage III at 13 until AB is off, close enough to 12 of F1. VRef and approach HUD are irrelevant in this case, I was testing the flight dynamics with the pitch/power settings, its not really a landing tutorial, and settings work.

      Honestly, I make the videos but a lot of other people should get credit too. Usually someone on my discord will mention an update (Im too emersed in development to pay attention), another one will post the changes, I'll flyi it, test it, consult with another pilot, then make the video. And all in like 3 days. But a lot of people should take credit for this, Talo, Titus, Jaguara, Sicarrio, et all...

    It definitely flies a lot better now. I had given up on it due to the unrealistic yaw behavior.

    • @FSX404
      @FSX404  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Wasnt the yaw, they increased the wing lift to make landings more accurate and that broke the flight model, it turned like crazy. They now fixed the turning part and added the nose yaw, so its best its been so far.

    Great vid! Never considered the F1 but fortunate to have flown in the real Mirage IIID. Doesn't the F1 dogfight ? The IIIOs seem to do OK even at the end of their life :)

    • @FSX404
      @FSX404  Před 7 měsíci +2

      F1 is made for dogfights by modifying the III. III is a high altitude interceptor, not really made for classic dogfights, but Israel bought it and used its speed as an advantage to perfection, making the III a lot better than it was. But III wasnt a good performer below 18k, so Dassault modified the III wing for medium altitudes and made the F1. So F1 is a better dogfighter below 18k and below mach 0.7, but still suffers from some MIII issues. Aerges is getting there slowly I hope. A step back ocassionally happens but the F1 is getting there. I would recommend it.

    Great video GVad, very informative! Just curious, but where did you get those turn performance charts (black ref. lines in your comparison)? Thanks

    • @FSX404
      @FSX404  Před měsícem +1

      We have a contact that flew F-1s for the South African Air Force, he provided some perfomance data. In reality all these 3rd Gen planes are similar (+/-2 deg), F1 is just a Mirage III with better sustained and worse instantaneous turns, tho Mirage III has better high altitude perfomance.
      Theres a peak perfomance, and then a curve which is based on wing shape (mostly), wing loading, etc...

    This is a great plane. So is the wheelie on takeoff a normal thing outside of MTOW for the F1?

    • @FSX404
      @FSX404  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Ehhhh, depends light weights have a quicker liftoff so smaller "wheelie", also here I actually made a mistake, pitch is 12 deg, not 10, so at 12 it will liftoff correctly at 190-195 kts and sooner, smaller wheelie, should repost that part soon.

    @darkcassoulet1041 Před 7 měsíci

    How do you know how the airplane "should" behave? I think thats a very intersting review, and pretty usefull to know, some other planes behave like garbage like the Gazelle and i wish it had normal dynamics.

    • @FSX404
      @FSX404  Před 7 měsíci

      I reviewed and tested it with a Mirage III pilot, for a few things on previous videos, we confirmed with a friend who was a F1 pilot for South African Air Force But wasnt needed for this video, I was just checking off boxes, only new thing was the adverse yaw at high AOA and thats basically the same in MIII and F1.

    keeping any of the aircraft straight on take off is horrendous atm IMO, I have thousands of hours experience in DCS, pretty much all the content and been with DCS since the start, so not an opinion I formed from thin air I mean :)

  • @snotcycle
    @snotcycle Před 7 měsíci +1

    i was under the impression takeoffs are done at full flaps in the F1, you took off at half flaps. Either this could account for your extra ~10 knots of takeoff, or i read the manual wrong.

    • @FSX404
      @FSX404  Před 7 měsíci

      Just spoke to two F1 pilots thru a Mirage III pilot, one didnt recall exactly but thought the 1st notch (half flaps) was takeoff, second pilot was sure that 1st notch was takoff, 2nd notch was landing. They flew few yrs ago, and have flown other planes since, so maybe there is something they forgot certain weights situations, I trust pilots as much as I trust fishermen 🤣🤣
