What is Going to Church All About

  • This appeal is about one of the core reasons we should gather every week as a church: to receive the body and blood of Christ in Communion. This is both the plain teaching of Jesus and has been the historical view of the Church for 2,000 years. We sing hymns. We hear preaching. We receive the Lamb of God.
Note: When I say “Protestantism” I do not just refer to those churches that identify as Protestant. I refer to an entire area of doctrinal understanding, which naturally includes major historical Protestant groups, along with others like Baptists, Anabaptists, Messianics, and more. I use Protestant as a broad and general term.

John 6:61-63. He was speaking spiritually. Wow, are you way off base...

That is wrong. Jesus NEVER says that He merely speaks spiritually, and is not speaking of real flesh and blood. Those three verses are talking about His divine nature, and the nature of faith it takes to believe in Him.
In fact when the crowds disbelieve it the first time Jesus teaches this truth, Jesus only REPEATS himself more strongly. He says:
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.
“Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
“Most assuredly,” also translated “verily, verily,” is in Greek: Amen, amen. This phrase is used at the start of a statement to assure that something is true. So Jesus is not backing off the reality of His words, but is insisting on them.
      Then He says:
“For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.
The word “indeed” is alethos in Greek. This means truly, in truth, or in reality.
So Jeus just reiterated His point, multiple times in the face of doubt. He is now insisting on the truth of His words. This is not a mere figure of speech, but is a reality, and Jesus has told us as much. That means that the bread and cup are His flesh and blood, or God is a liar.
Moreover, the commonly misused verses you cite are followed by a few significant events: the disciples abandon Jesus. Peter and the others stay, only based on faith. If Jesus has just told them, as you imagine, that He was only speaking in some unreal and spiritual sense, then they would not have abandoned Him, and Peter and the apostles would not have needed faith to remain with Jesus. He would have just given them a logical explanation, and they would now understand. It would make sense. There is no faith needed to believe in a normal figure of speech. There is no mystery there.
So come on. Spend more time with this passage and you will see that those few words of Jesus are not an escape from the reality of His flesh and blood in Communion. Please.
I have this video which responds in detail to your specific objection, among others.
I believe it is objection #10:

@@holinessofthebride1935 Your ignorance is astounding. But I know it's because you are under a spirit of religion and are blinded from the truth. Repent and believe the true Gospel. "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." God bless.

You are just telling me that you have no answer, and you do not care what the Scriptures really teach. So you have to just be a mocker. You do not approach the Bible to learn. Jesus taught that the bread and cup are His body and blood, and he defended it against the skeptical, such as yourself.
Religion is good, according to God. Jesus lived as a religious man. The apostles were all religious men. The saints in history were al religious. If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died for your sins, you are religious as well. That is a good thing, as it simply means you have faith in God, worship, and obey Him. The Bible praises good religion, and condemns the bad kind.
I have an article on the topic of religion as well: www.holinessofthebride.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Did-Yeshua-Destroy-Religion.pdf
