      Season 2 is so much better than season 1. Obviously not 100% accurate to the books but there’s only so much you can do with a show. Regardless, season 1 is kind of shit but season 2 is better in everyway. The way the magic cgi looks in season 2 is actually beautiful

      @jamesderosa2041 Před 2 lety

      Krasimir is right:
      “Although during the War of Power there were dozens of Forsaken leading the armies of the Shadow, as time passed, the term ‘Forsaken’ came to refer to only the thirteen most powerful among them, who were caught in the sealing of the Bore and imprisoned with the Dark One.”

    • @CivilizationEx
      @CivilizationEx  Před 2 lety +3

      They were called Dreadlords in the Third Age, not during the Age of Legends. As for the Forsaken name, as I understand it, all the Aes Sedai who turned to the Shadow were Forsaken, though they called themselves the Chosen, but as time went on the name Forsaken came to refer to the 13 most powerful. So I think how I said it is accurate, but maybe in the final version I will add a note to clarify all this.

    • @nodnarbeht9505
      @nodnarbeht9505 Před 2 lety

      @@CivilizationEx Hmmm I don't recall if the distinction was made about the difference being exclusive to the third age or not but perhaps I am wrong, unfortunately as you know there isn't exactly a treasure trove of information on the second or first ages in much detail. A note would certainly help because people will also be confused about the difference between Forsaken, Dreadlords and Black Ajah which are all in a way technically the same thing but also extremely different/distinct rankings. The granting of new names was the key factor here, only those acknowledged with a new name are technically Forsaken/chosen while the others were just of the shadow. Jordan never tells us if the other Forsaken who didn't make it got new names or not so I guess we can't say for sure.

    • @nodnarbeht9505
      @nodnarbeht9505 Před 2 lety +1

      @@jamesderosa2041 Well not necessarily, as one had to go to the dark one and pledge to him and be granted a new name to become a forsaken and the only ones we know for sure did are the thirteen survivors. Jordan never mentions the other ones or if they swore directly and were renamed so technically others may have been Dreadlords and the formal naming didn't come into play until the Trolloc Wars where the Forsaken were not present (excluding the spoiler of course). So from a technical stand point any channeler who wasn't a forsaken or Black Ajah was technically a Dreadlord it just gets murky in regards to actual titling in the second age.

      @nodnarbeht9505 Před 2 lety +1

      Actually there is something extremely metaphysically significant in that they are the dragon. The dragon is the same Everytime from a soul perspective (think reincarnation) so therefore they are always special by that fact even when they are living a different non dragon life in an age. The dragon gets spun out as the dragon when needed but that doesn't mean they don't get spun out like everyone else otherwise. Look into some of the old fan theories and you find instances where Jordan suggests several false dragons were actually just unneeded spin outs of the dragon.

    it's easy to make cool and intimidating villains with rich and powerful backstories, but when across 14 books they constantly fail to achieve anything at all over our protagonists then it really becomes hard to seem them as threatening

    • @mEmory______
      @mEmory______ Před 2 lety +5

      If you didn't read the whole series then I get it, but if you did not then just realise the plans they have are not in full motion, even though the forsaken have done some seriously threatening things. I see in your other comment that you read the first five books? Well, you have not seen the full potential of the forsaken outside of taking control of countries, creating chaos, assasination attempts, and creating traps. But the main thing bout the forsaken is that at the start they are not coordinated, they have far fewer resources, and there primary job given to them in book six the lord of chaos, is too create chaos in the world, chaos which propels the enire series forward. Besides that the plans they are carrying out in the first books on and off page directly influence tarmon gai'don at the end. If you read the whole series, you would know that. But if it was only 5 books, then well. A little patience, in my opinion some of the best books are the last 4 past book 10.

    • @eunomiac
      @eunomiac Před 2 lety +5

      What are you talking about? (Spoilers ahead for those who haven't read the books, be safe...) They had infiltrated every major power structure in the world and bent most of them to their will before Moiraine ever set foot in the Two Rivers. As for their apparent lack of progress against the Emond's Fielders --- at first, Moraine kept them hidden, with great effort; then they zipped off to the Aiel Wastes. When they got back, Lanfear checkmated Moiraine (I'd call that achieving something)... and the only reason they didn't push harder is because the Dark One his own damn self literally ordered them all to "let the Lord of Chaos rule". By the time the shit had finally reached the fan, those Emond's Fielders were... let's just say... _hardly_ easy pickings anymore. Even their lack of cooperation to take him on was because they had been so corrupted by the Dark One's Darwinian oversight that they had more to fear from each other than any saviour.

    • @jamesderosa2041
      @jamesderosa2041 Před 2 lety +9

      They accomplish all sorts of stuff.
      *SPOILERS BE HERE*
      Semirharge plunges Seanchan into civil war (and takes one of the Dragon’s hands). Demandred takes over Shara. M’Hael almost takes over all the male channelers. Mesanna helped split the Tower. Graendal throws multiple countries, including Shara, into chaos by abducting their leaders. Rahvin breaks the royal line of Andor for the first time in a thousand years. The rest create chaos to greater or lesser degrees. Sammael and Be’lal take over major countries. Etc., etc.
      A couple of them are pretty lame - Lanfear seems to have no coherent plan and Asmodean seemed to have almost no plan at all - but for the most part, every bad thing that happens on a global scale is because of them.
