I am with the White Tower room assignment office. Thank you for your white board message. I am assigning you a floor on the 38th floor. I expect you to move immediately.
I quit
@@NaeBlis . You are in better shape than I am. If I have to walk up more than 3 flights of stairs without an elevator, then I will not be living in or working at or visiting the White Tower.
Just think of all the litigation the White Tower would be subject to in the RW. Not ADA compliant.
@@andrewberenson5717 They need to get Waygates installed :)
To be fair, it seems like one would have to be physically fit to be Aes Sedai and can augment their strength and we can assume that most warders were fit as well.
@@rriggs6547 Most Browns don't strike me as the physically fit type!
Something to remember: Technology and engineering towards the end of the Age of Legends was comparable to what we have today, if not far beyond it, although much of that might have been Power-based. Only half a century AB, or even 200 AB, many (or at least a good number) of the Aes Sedai were survivors of the breaking, and still knew how to do really good stuff - the Ways were still being created, and some of the surviving male Aes Sedai were still vacationing in the _steddings._ So the White Tower could easily have been built by Aes Sedai that remembered and had studied in Collam Daan.
And a building half the size of the Empire State Building would dominate Manhattan if there were no other buildings higher than 10 stories in the area. The Statue of Liberty does tend to dominate Liberty Island and the west part of New York Bay, and each of NYC's bridges is visible from miles around.
Love the way your mind works.
i can't believe no pots were scrubbed on a video about the tower
What you missed (understandably so) was the secret passages that servants use which come out behind giant tapestries. I know not much attention is paid to them in the books, but would love to hear the opinion of someone who is far more attentive to the tiny details of the series.
Don't forget Elaida destroyed the Warders' exercise area and started building her "palace".
I love this world. Amazing that there have been Idk how many words written about it and yet they are somehow not enough.
Love the Manhattan/Empire States visual.
Can you do a video on Masema Dagar? Never really understood how/why he went crazy - was it the forsaken, or did he already have some screws loose?
I thought he ran across Paden Fain. Everyone Fain talks to goes a little crazy like Elaida or Masema or the White cloaks he affected
Turns out there were at least 7 things I already knew about the White Tower :)
Yeah, in my mind the white tower was a lot more white towery than it is in the show.
The novices weren't in different wings in the books. They were in the lower floors. Remember when the parts of the browns quarters got transported down into the novices wing and part of the novices quarters was transported up to the browns quarters?
Very good points!
I love this channel!!!
Love this content.
And in comes Naebs with an entire video about architecture that is longer than it's wide. 😎
Some prefer it that way
I mean, getting the White Tower to that height by building it stone-upon-stone and still having any accessible space on the lower floors is an impressive engineering (well, OK, magic-eering) feat. Once you get past a few hundred feet, you stop being able to have any void space at all at ground level, because there's too much weight higher up, and the walls can't support it. It's why so many ancient tall buildings are pyramids with little to no interior structure.
Could it be using Cuendillar?
I love this comment.
@@kyrroti9921 That's a hard.... maybe, but probably not.
Much of the city is Ogier built, and the Tower is mentioned somewhere to have been built by Ogier working with Aes Sedai, using the One Power.
*but*
possible spoilers
After the southharbor chain was turned to Cuendillar during the siege, the structures holding the mechanisms to raise and lower the chain could be demolished using the One Power, so the chain could be removed and the harbor opened to trade again, and some sections - at least of the upper tower - are breached during the Seanchan attack, which means that they're not cuendillar, because you can't break that, unless you're the Dark One, and even then, it takes a while.
SO it's probably something more like Whitebridge; made in some forgotten manner with the Power.
Great maps as always
Hey cool video. I also imagined the tower being absurdly tall, like into the clouds almost. But it does appear massive to me now that you pointed out the vastness and depth of its grounds
Are there any instances of the tower using its cache of angreal and sa’angreal to help build roads and such? Seems like the Aes Sedai no longer do that type of thing in the current age
As a kid I always imagined it shaped like a giant crystal, all shiny and gleaming. So the reality of it was a bit of a blow, lol.
I would think that part of its perceived size would be caused by its infusion with the One Power. It would make for a good deterrent to attack instilling a sense of awe and dominance. It could also act to confuse a person trying to map it out having it appear so big from outside. A good way to confound those not familiar with the tower inside.
I saw somewhere that the show decided to build the White Tower on top of a hill to make it look more magnificent, but they need to do a better job with the scenes. Even if it’s just scenes going up and down the stairs as they did in The Big Band Theory. Rafe, please give us some perspective on how many floors up and down they have to go from one place to another. Season 1 felt small.
And apparently they had built sets for the shots inside the tower.
Too bad then that my friends commented on the bad CGI backgrounds inside the tower.
It takes true skill to make a real set look like bad CGI.
@@Merecir I love the show, but fixing those "details" would truly take it to another level and reach its maximum potential. I love it so much I want it to be even better.
@@arosa_mg By replacing Caemlyn with half a season of pointless filler episodes they have already destroyed the story. So it cannot become any better.
@@Merecir I don't agree on it being pointless. They only decided to immerse us in the Aes Sedai politics, importance of Aes Sedai/Warder bond, before than it is in the story. These are more important for the overall story and I totally understand why they wanted to do it sooner, postponing Caemlyn to when it becomes relevant.
I have a question- what happened to all of the sa’angreal, ter’angreal and angreal that were sent from the Aiel waste? Did they ever make it to the White Tower or were they lost again? What about the ones that were found in the store room in the stone of Tear and Ebou Dar. I want to believe that all of these were the ones stolen from the Aiel during their wandering and I hope they finally made it back to Aes Sedai hands.
They are in Cairhien, where Hadan Kadere's wagons ended up when Moiraine "died". The other things from the Rhuidean weren't sent (if you remember the conversation with the Dreamwalkers before the battle with Mesaana)
Very impressive video.
Thank you Jennifer! Always good to hear from you!
Part of the comparison to the Empire State building is flawed. Not because it is wrong per se, but because it would be like having a building half the size of the building in the middle of Central Park. You have the tower and two accepted quarters in the middle with the library by themselves. Then you have the stables near the wall far off at the edge of the park. The same with the Barracks. The court and the training field are mostly flat. So you would have all of these smaller buildings up to the wall, followed by flat space and trees, and then a massive complex in the middle. And this would make it look much more impressive.
There is a cinematic of the hall of the tower @ 6:57. Can you point me to where that comes from? I would love to see an animated version of the story done in this style. Another one around 8:55
It's from the Wheel of Time - Origins miniseries that accompanies the Amazon show
Didn’t know. Now we do 👍
Do a character examination on Rand
Please where did you get the animation that accompanied this video? Like the one that showed the library, teaching session for novices and it's construction
It’s from the WoT Origins videos released by Amazon
You forgot to mention the 100-lane bowling alley 😉
Damn; you’re right. It’s right next to the indoor pool
Oh no, I think my cat is claiming to be the Dragon Reborn. He’s gathering an army and calling himself
Meowlin Darksbane
If it’s so massive yet there is plenty of unused space, why is Elaida wanting to build more.
Did the show make the tower taller, or just the island smaller?
Probably both
Imagine having to flumph your way down 300 stories to get dinner. I hope they have elevators 🙂
600 ft tall, approx 10 ft per story leaves 60 stories. Still a lot of stairs!
Yet the sisters somehow lost the art of travelling!?
I would quit if my rooms were above the 3rd floor.
wth, floor 39? I'm on the 3rd floor in my apt and I HATE IT
Is 2500 square feet really the average? That's a big house IMO!!
They need to install an elevator.
So... 150ft radius at the base. Frankly, this sounds horrible. The interior must be perpetually dark unless lit by the crude lighting technology of the era, which produces smoke and soot. Most of the tower's interior, after thousands of years, must be coated in a thick layer of soot. I don't think all the novices and penitent accepted could possibly scrub all that clean.
So true lol
I'm gonna go out in a limb and say magic lights are a thing.
Something cool you missed is the amazing feat it accomplished in making Egwene's character not suck for a while.
@Nae’Blis I’ve been watching your videos for the last month or so since I’ve finished all the books. Your work on WOT is heartwarming. Thank you. I would like to sponsor some videos. Im disappointed in the way how WOT series is trashing up such beautiful novels.. might I suggest you make a video on how the show runners are fucking it up…
If you expect Nae'blis to make that you can't have watched many if his videos...
So...all this talk about the dimensions of the White Tower, and the word 'girth' doesn't appear to have been mentioned once. Who are you, and what have you done with Nae'Blis? 🤨
The Novice Quarters in the TV Show will have to be about 5 times their book size, considering the size and luxurious standard of Egwene's in the show 🤣🤣. Sorry but the Novices is one thing they are getting seriously wrong in the show. More like Boarding Students in an exclusive High School. Lets not forget the WT was built by survivors of the AOL, both AS and Ogier.
Please where did you get the animation that accompanied this video? Like the one that showed the library, teaching session for novices and it's construction
It's from the extra materials on Prime, Wheel of Time Origins.
