    The line “and the three shall be one” is one of my favourite lines of the prophecy. The way it foreshadowed the way Rand sealed the Dark One’s prison using Callandor to channel saidar, saidin and the true power all at once. The three became one

    Also the line, He shall hold a sword of light and the three shall be one is another sign of how he ultimately defeats the Dark One. With Callandor, bound to Moraine and Nynaeve, He lets Moridin fall into the trap so that he can also use the True Power with Saidin and Saidar, thus the three become one.

    I am currently rereading the books again. Something that occurred to me about Rand is this. What is Lews Therin is not only just in Rands head but somehow also talking to Rand back in the past just before his death. Kinda like time itself has merged in Rands' head. After all the beginning of the book he is seen wandering around muttering to himself and raging, sometimes even striking out with the One Power.

      The Wheel turn but not just one point on any wheel turns, the whole thing turns. It could be that the timeline of the ages somehow does happen simultaneously? Out side of linear time. Or yes due to Rand being Ta’veren he is literally tied to Lews Therin as he lived his life.

    I think "pray that the heart of stone remembers tears, and the soul of fire love" also refers to Rand's meeting with Tam in the Stone of Tear, and when he remembers love on top of Dragonmount. I also think that "He shall hold a blade of light in his hands and the three shall be one" refers to Dragonmount, and also both refers to how Lews Therin, Cuendillar Rand, and Farmboy Rand become one, and also how Elayne, Aviendha, and Min all symbolize Ilyena in his mind.

    I like the interpretation that Moridin (as per WOT spoilers) is the one who comes after and draws the sword out. Narishma is careful about always having coverings on Callandor so as not to touch it. The link between Moridin and Rand in the Last Battle is key to winning, and he is the only other person to wield that blade

    I know this is an old video but I am going over a lot of old content at the minute in anticipation for season 2 of the show. I love the line “and he will heal the wounds of madness” as I feel there is a couple of meanings of this. The obvious one is him lifting the dark ones taint off the male half of the power but I think there is another layer to this. I think Rand and later Logain and the Asha man change a lot of the stigma around men who can channel. I think the way this is worded, “healing the wounds of madness”, points towards a reconciliation between men who can channel and the rest of the world.

  • @jagondal8378
    @jagondal8378 Před 5 lety +8

    Here is a good question: How much of the Prophesies did Rand fulfill, and how much was fulfilled for him because of the Prophecies? Masema as the prime, but not sole, example, how many people changed allegiances or sought different avenues because the Prophecies say that he breaks all bonds? How many times did people attempt to run from or thwart the Prophecies only to bring about their fulfillment? How many people sought to "protect him" and guide him to fulfill each line *cough*Aes Sedai*cough* as if something on the scale of Fate could be intentionally maneuvered? It could be said the Karaethon Cycle itself is a masterstroke in the war against the Shadow, as it is both a guide for Rand to prepare the world and an impetus for others to act, ultimately in the direction needed for the victory of the Light. The Sword of Truth novels pretty solidly address the danger and uses of prophecy. And to cross realms once more: "Each event is preceded by Prophecy. But without the hero, there is no Event." - Zurin Arctus, the Underking

    • @samringwald
      @samringwald Před 5 lety +4

      It's interesting to be sure. The whole sticking the sword back into the stone seems pretty easy--he did it for the high lords.
      ""Into the heart he thrusts his sword,
      into the heart, to hold their hearts.
      Who draws it out shall follow after,
      What hand can grasp that fearful blade?"
      Except this is also possibly a reference to the Aiel, as he most definitely thrust the sword of peace into their heart (referred to later). Those who metaphorically pull the sword out follow after, grasping the fearful blade of peace--the idea of being pacifists literally kills some Aiel, and others break clan and join the Shaido, some of which save Faile and keep Perrin from losing his entire mind, and since Perrin was necessary for the Last Battle... you see? Nice complexity.
      I'm sure some was intended and some was the product of an enthusiastic fan base, but who cares? It's fun!

    I hate to disagree so often, especially cuz this video is so exciting and awesome. That’s why these books are so great. Except! “Power of the Shadow make human flesh” has to be Shaidar Haran. The reflections don’t make enough strife/ruin to warrant highlight in prophesy IMO, and the bubbles of evil aren’t shadow made Flesh really...I’d consider Ishamael here too though, over 3000 years certainly made considerable ruin

    • @Tamyrlin
      @Tamyrlin Před 5 lety +2

      I also thought that this referred to Shaidar Haran. Doesn't make sense to me that there would be prophecies about specific bubbles of evil when those apparently occurred everywhere, to everyone. The books even have reports from others about ones that happen "off-screen." And, the ones allegedly mentioned in prophecy aren't the only ones that happened to any of the Three Ta'veren, so why here? Doesn't really work for me as an interpretation, but Shadar Haran sure does.

What does it mean when it says "he who draws it out will follow after", we know it is Narishma but what will he do? Or with how the land is one with the Dragon Reborn, this is quite literally shown in the series as food rots when he is at his worst and the other way around after the Veins of Gold chapter.

    Here's a question: are all 3 ta'veren bound to the Wheel? It's clear that Rand's soul is, and Perrin and Mat have done more than enough to make themselves a Hero of the Horn, if they weren't before. I know that the Heroes say that Mat actually isn't but they could've been saying that to make him feel better about having to be reborn over and over. Plus, Perrin and Mat being ridiculously strong ta'veren and their inclusion in the Karaethon Cycle lead me to believe all 3 boys are bound to the Wheel.

    When the Wolf King carries the hammer, thus are the final days known - happens when the he forges the power wrought hammer - there is a noticeable shift in the narrative at this point. It's Tar'mon Gai'don from this point on, no more the story now shifts to everyone confronting, directly preparing for it, rather than it being near - it has now come.
    Sadly I didn't get every reference in the prophecy, but I will comment that Jordan does a very good job in showing how prophecy can be perfectly true once it happens, but easily mis-understood or mislead when trying to figure it out before. When the events prophesied happen, it's fairly clear this is them, but I love how he also shows some people greatly bending the prophecies to fit them - some of the false dragons do this.

All three had to go through all the trials they did to be able to complete their part. Mat had to be cured of the taint of the dagger in order to kill Fain and Perrin needed his love for Faile to be able to defeat Lanfare’s compulsion and save Rand from her. @fenixchief7 Před 5 lety +2

      The foretellings are collected from before during and after the war of power IRC. It's a cycle of seven ages. A dragon always appears in the 2nd and the dragon reborn in the 3rd but there has been multiple 2nd and 3rd ages. So its the same soul being reincarnated repeatedly from what I gather but the ages 4567 and 1 effectively eradicate any knowledge of dragons by the return to the 2nd age. This effectively makes LTT the original dragon, and his next iteration the dragon reborn.
      It could be that Rand is unique as far as dragon reborns go. He actually has his past life trapped in his head and of course the prophecy. It's speculation on my part but I'm not sure these occur in every dragon reborn. Could be wrong though as there is 15 books of info to try to keep straight.

      @@Andrew-tz2wv that sounds about right. I imagine that Lews therin or some rendition of the dragon would be present if the horn of valere was sounded at a time he was still held in telanrhiod as well. Makes sense he could be spun out in another age.

    Everyone headed their own prophecies because prophecies told them to do. They choose one of the possibilities and made them real.
    And because the pattern is beyond imagination, oracles couldn't explain what they saw clearly. That's why the prophecies are so fuzzy.
