I wish aircraft manufacturers still made commercials like these for their aircraft.
McDonnell Douglas had the best of these
I wish all commercials were like old
I'm pretty sure they still make some sort of commercials for airline executives...
There unsafe because of the Swiss air 111 accident
Absolutely! Airbus, kinda did one for its a350
When i went to Hawaii as a kid we flew on a MD11 there and back. Very nice plane and comfortable. I thought that being such a long flight we were gonna fly on a 747. I saw so many 747 roll past our gate, I was sure one of them was gonna be the plane to take us. But then this tri jet pulls up to our gate and I felt so disappointed. Later I found out that 747s are mainly used for international flights. In that five hour flight from Seattle to Honolulu, the MD11 won me over. It was so spacious ( I was 11 at the time so everything looked extra big), the in flight meal was delicious, they let me drink all sparkling cider and Pepsi I wanted, we watched Jurassic Park, they even let me go up to first class for a little bit to chit chat with my grandparents (they always flew first class),and most importantly to a 11 year old there wasn't a single shimmy of turbulence. They even had phones in the seats. MD 11 I salute you. Lol.
I'm jelly, would have loved to fly on a MD-11
The MD-11 was one of the most graceful planes every built. A real busy in the skies, there was something very elegant about a tr-jet aircraft with winglets...i flew several times on Swissair's MD-11...
Sony Alexander I wanna be Cargo so I can fly with the MD-11
@eimb1999 nooooo....that was Swissair 350 at 111 mph
diamonddog257 Swissair 111 is the reason why Swissair went bankrupt
Sony Alexander yes! 🤩
That sounds like a very nice experience. But unfortunately, Swissair went bankrupt. And the MD-11 is now used for cargo. You were very lucky.
i love the synth-heavy soundtrack!
MIDI at its best. My favorite period for electronic music was between 1987-1991.

90s vibes!!
This A/C will always...ALWAYS have a special place in my heart.
My Great Aunt was a part of the MD team who designed this. I used to have a ton of MD swag that she gave me.
Flew on the KLM MD-11 a year before it was retired from service
Lucky
Oh I wanted to do the same! Even got engaged to a girl who lives next Schiphol. Alas, I was too late.
So jealous.
I was only 10 years old back then, I had no idea the MD-11 would retire.
And to think that my parents would have agreed to take me to the Netherlands to be on one of the last farewell flights...oh well, I was born to late
Love the MD-11 and DC-10. Took many trips with Hawaiian DC-10s from lax to hnl and back during the 90s. Been on a Korean Air MD-11 twice in 1992 from LA to Seoul and back. Great memories..
Did I see the MD-11 smiling at 5:30?
So it wasn't just me. It has cute little eyebrows, too.
***** Yes I guess He( the MD11) is just happy to know that he had passed all the flight tests with success.
;)
95shredder
PSA(Please Smile Amigo) defenetly was a happy airline.
+95shredder PSA flew specially configured L-1011s with air stairs (only two were ever produced that way). As far as I can see, PSA merged (in 1987) before the MD-11 was launched (in 1988). Maybe a former PSA mechanic or painter worked for MD at the time, and did that as a joke. Good observation!
+Louis Brasil
Yes, I saw that happy smile too!
I was fortunate to fly on an MD11 when I deployed to and from Afghanistan via Kuwait on World Airways. It was by far my favorite flight and my first transatlantic flight that I'd gladly take again. I'm too young to have remember flying anything older. The take off was insanely powerful and it was so smooth and quiet at cruising altitude. We all loved it and I miss how unique planes used to look. My favorite plane!
Amazing MD-11 video! So 90's! So nostalgic! Love it!
Man this give me goosebumps. Those McDonell Douglas MD-11 were beautiful, with the colors of Alitalia it was the golden age of aviation, I remember as a kid how glamorous it was to fly and all those fancy aircraft with such fine colors, it was a good time. Flying now is boring.
Loved flying on the MD-11... as well as on the DC-10... missing the good old times...
This is simply amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this! The MD-11 was another beautiful jet. I especially liked how modern (for that era) the wings were, with the winglet design being unique to it.
Something is not right here...
wonderful to see this film - thank you for sharing it
Thanks for the good words Ray, I appreciate it. Feel free to come by anytime, I have lots of super rare airliner films up.
Such a beautiful aircraft... i just love the wing design and placement... handsome aircraft
next to an A380 it looks so much more modern in a strange way
and what is that strange way?
@@trijetz3562 the lines, the visage, the graceful symmetry of the three engines. a380 looks like it was made of Duplo blocks by a 5 year-old
@@slh950 lol true
I whole heartedly agree. Great minds think alike.😊😊😊🙂
@@slh950 I think that the A380 looks more modern. The MD-11 looks like it’s straight from the 1970s when the A380 looks like it came out in the 1990s.
The test aircraft in this video, N111MD (N601FE) and N211MD (N602FE) are both still flying today with almost 90,000 flight hours.
That's actually incredible
Update : As of 30 April 2023, N601FE has been officially WFU. However, its sister ship, N602FE is still active.

WFU?

The L-1011 is my favorite wide body tri-holer, but I remember the MD11 was super advanced when it was introduced.
Watching these old videos makes my mind wonder what I was doing when these different segments were filmed in real time. Does anyone else suffer from nostalgia?
I was present at Mojave Aerotest when they delivered the first MD-11 To Fed EX. It was a magnificent experience. I was delivering parts in the final days of pre delivery from Long Beach, CA McDonnell Douglas facility to Mojave, CA.
Nice background soundtrack starting at 2:20 and ending in 4:29. Those 90s synthesizers!
The soundtrack reminded me of when I was back in high school watching science movies in class, lol.
My favorite synthesizer from that decade is the Yamaha SY-77. I've always liked Yamaha keyboards.
love it
@2:08 < That is the McDonnell Douglas Flight Test facilities down in Yuma Arizona.
Thank you very much for this video. I am a loyal and passionate DC-10 lover. Oops must be said. I thought the only thing added to the MD-11 was winglets. So much for my knowledge. "My Bad".😂😂😂 I still love them both, the DC-10 and the MD-11.
I use to work the MD11 back in the late 90s when i was a flight attendant at Delta. Always a nice plane to work.
I love MD11 in FedEx livery! :))
Listopedia !!
Listopedia any new video?
I Love the MD-11
Who doesn't?! XD
I Love DC-10, MD-11
Casey the Caveman 😱
I tooo
Car Wash Studios well i love them bough but would u still love them when you were on board of all these flights crashed cuz of dc 10 just being unsave for a period of time... i dont think so
I Remember going on a Garuda DC-10 in 1991 from Denpasar to Jakarta. It was a great experience. Glad I had the chance to fly on one of these old airliners
I wish they still made it 😢❤ one engine in the rear wing was so cool
I watch this video every time I fly the PMDG MD-11 love the 80's music and it gets me into the aviation spirit.
I will miss this aircraft, seriously been one of my favourite aircraft out there. LAst flight was with a Martinair (now a days only Cargo flights as well) was from Amsterdam to Lanzarote and then through to final destination Fuertaventura (Gran Canaria islands). The flights where smooth and the airplane was spacious, given plenty of room for the passengers to roam around in during mid-flight.
I flew in them as well to Gran Canary , Tenerife, Ibiza, Mallorca, Heraklion, Antalya, Faro Portugal, Malaga, Alicante, and a few others with Martin air
Thanks for publishing this! I worked on the White "Spirit of Hartford" ship 449 during this Flight test program, as an Mechanic, there were only about a Dozen Mech's and Techs per Bird, along with a fairly large group of Engineer's and Admins.. It was a long 7 Months in the Desert Heat of AZ.
One of my all time favorite aircraft, love that grinding sound at take-off when full power is applied. Extremely comfortable in any seat.
I just found this! I was a flight test engineer on this program. I flew in all 5 of those planes, thousands of hours in those beautiful machines! I worked on avionics, was onboard for all of the takeoff/missed approach tests, and many other avionics tests. I have video of me in the right seat of 449, when the FAA pilot allowed me to take his place for a while. I didn't do anything but sit there, since I'm not a pilot, but it was amazing. Just being on an experimental jet, able to stand in the cockpit during takeoff, missed approaches, landings, etc. was an experience I'll never forget.
Johnny Ferretti is that a third engine on the back? Can't be the APU could it?
No, that's an engine. The APU is inside the fuselage, the exhaust for the APU is under the right side horizontal stabilizer, not very obvious. But it is a much smaller exhaust than the engine!
Johnny Ferretti very cool thanks for explaining. I figured, looked way too big to be the APU. Must have plenty of power, I didn't know there was a 3 engine plane, I thought there was just 2 and 4.

The most gorgeous commercial aircraft ever macdonell Douglas DC-10 30s and MD11 built after the queen of the skies 747

@@poketube9.068 ditto that.
Awesome Aircraft, its a shame ill never get to go on one. :(
OBSCumulus Me too:(
So sad.
If you wanna die that much, then there are other ways.
GianCarlo M. She was an extremely reliable and safe airplane. The early DC-10 accidents due to the CBD and engine strut break in Chicago (caused by faulty maintenance , not a fault of the plane) tarnished her reputation forever, but she and her sister DC-10 are beautiful, safe, reliable and excellent planes.
@@giancarlom. shut up
One mean/awesome looking aircraft...,kudos to the MD corporation. A true aviation legend!💪
One of my fav planes, even now in 2014 :)
Around this time I was taking a business class in college. We watched a video about airplane manufacturers, and the criticism of McDonnell Douglas was that their new planes were just like the old ones.
Them engine's would be loud af. Loved it
Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing. December 1997 was the last time I flew this aircraft. It was Garuda Indonesia. LAX-CGK with technical stop in Honolulu. I can not believe that was 17 years ago!
I Swear. I Would give up all of my possessions just to bring back McDonnell Douglas. They made the BEST aircraft EVER!!
They merged with Boeing in 1997.
I Know, but it's not the same.
Yes to the DC-3, DC-7, DC-9, DC-8....The MD-11 was a failure....American Airlines got rid of them in just 2 years. Way too many accidents involving the relatively small # that were built.
I Agree on the MD-11 being a failure, but it is still a beautiful bird and FedEx is still using MANY of them.
I Already flew on PH-KCG From AMS-ATL back in 2012, It was the best flight I have ever had! It was fast, comfortable, zero turbulence (the fasten seatbelt sign didn't come on ONCE mid-flight, except for landing of corse) and the food was actually delicious!
I grew up with my dad working at Boeing, and I later worked on 747's and 777's as a mechanic. Have to admit, though, the DC-10 and MD-11 is a beautiful aircraft. Its to bad poor management killed off the commercial side of McDonnell Douglas. Sadly, Boeing stupidly put a lot of that same management team in the company after the merger. It changed the entire culture of Boeing.
Thanks for that insight Eric, very interesting.
Eric W People who continued to work on McDonnell Douglas military side felt the same about Boeing.
Worst thing that happened to Douglas Aircraft,
was McDonnell. Second worst, was Boeing.
When I was at Douglas, they made pencils that
said McDonnell Douglas . Douglas was at the
eraser end. For some reason, they got sharpened
down a LOT, at the beginning, then never sharpened
again.

I miss the MD-11 very much.I enjoyed every flight on Swissair and Thai MD-11s. An awesome and elegant airliner

Great film to do Aerobics to. Improved both my mind AND my body. I'll definitely fly your channel again.
Incidently, talking about PC software, the FS2002 Hawaii Airport addon which featured the MD-11 is, in my humble opinion, the best MSFS Addon, , , , EVER!
You do remember FS2002? Happy Days!
Great video! Love the MD11. Designed and built in California.
Wow, I didn't know they shoot with potatoes back in 1990. I thought that's more a 70s' thing. Great video and make me really appreciate 4K HDR videos
Was a great experience to have flown on this plane!
David Dougherty I wish I could do that...
It is IMHO, the most beautiful airliner ever built. If I had a few extra million, I’d buy one and build a house out of it!
My favorite aircraft of all time, its the most beautifully designed plane ever. Todays dreamliner should be called a Nightmare because MD11 is worth calling a Dreamliner
This burgundy house livery is so beautiful :O
Esse modelo de aeronave é simplesmente lindo...o terceiro reator no estabilizador vertical diz tudo...
Thank you for making this available!
I Love This Plane, MD-11 My Love Trijet Widebody McDonnell Douglas
Excellent upload and what a magnificent and beautiful aircraft! The MD-11 is still one of my favourite aircraft.
I would die for this unbelievable amazing aircraft!
I love the MD11. Flew one today. It's always a blast and when really light a real hoot. Climbed to FL410 in 11 mins.
V/S 4000
@@dinghenryst Yes, and I saw this only 1 time. Climbing so fast that in the mid 30s the plane actually changed to VS climb and lowered the rate to about 3000FPM. I believe it is programmed into the computer to NOT be climbing this fast up high. We both looked at each other and said."Never seen that before. Love the MD11.
I always wished I could fly in one of these!
If only McDonnell Douglas had delivered the 1996 MD-11ER in 1991, the airports would be a little less monotonous these days.
You can't help but feel sorry for MDC...they had such high hopes for the MD-11 and it sort of imploded.
I do like the look and proportions of the MD-11, they look quite purposeful.
The 767-300, MD-11, and A340-300 are one of the best proportioned airplanes of all time
I love the MD11, It's what the DC10 SHOULD have been.
The background music is a vibe.
It was very satisfying to see the first Md11 take off from west ramp there at Long Beach airport. It was fuselage #446 and I was an aircraft electrician at the time and they allowed us to go to the flight ramp to watch its maiden flight back in the early 90’s. I think it was 1991. DAC was a good company to work for. Today is 10/29/2022
This feels so 90s! Love it! Love the MD-11!
This is the most beautiful airplane ever made. She's simply beautiful and elegant.
Many thanks for uploading! : )
Such a great looking aircraft. Too bad the tiny horizontal stabilizer makes it handle like a half-empty swimming pool and a b1tch to land.
That don’t matter when it is a COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT. Let me guess, you be the type of nigga to make a city bus drift with full passengers...It is that type of thinking that you have as to why cruddy planes like the 787 exist....
A vast difference between the DC10 series and the MD11. The MD 11 is a beautiful aircraft.
You know seeing one of these before they retired will feel good to tell to the new generation of kids. Feel proud of yourselves if you've at least lived in that era or seen any! :)
I am from the new generation and saw lots of MD-11. On my 13th birthday this year I finnaly saw an MD-11
So gorgeous
Nice film. Thanks for posting. I am a big fan of Douglas aircraft and will be saddened when AA retires the last of its DC-9-80s. Still, the failure of the MD-11, a last ditch effort, delivered the death blow to Douglas.
The plane most beautifful ever! MD-11 forever
On October 25, 2014, KLM retired its last MD-11, PH-KCE "Audrey Hepburn," after more than two decades of wonderful service by the type. KLM, the oldest airline in the world, operated the MD-11 the longest in passenger service. For many years, McDonnell Douglas, and the Douglas Aircraft Company before that, had a Scottish bagpipe band lead the way at the inauguration of every new commercial airliner it introduced, and I personally hope there's one waiting for "Audrey" when she is officially retired at Victorville, California.
Really like this aircraft and hate to see its fleet slowly disappearing. Very sad.
I think if the MD-11 was successful, MCDonnell Douglas would have never needed to merge to stay alive and they would have been making some very competitive commercial aircraft today.
Most beautiful passenger/cargo aircraft ever built.
Wow!! They had wing tip folded up in the 90s, only recently aircrafts are doing it.
0:17 takeoff was Incredible

The rep of Fin Air wanted one last look at the E Bay of the first article delivery to them so my team leader, Tuk Nguyen elected me for the job. The MD-11 program was fun to work on. I still have most of John Mcdonnell's 90 days company communication video tapes.

I remember those good old days BLDG 80 Long Beach MD11.
Beautiful aircraft Newtown but it was part of the demise of McDonnell Douglas. It didn't meet its performance specs for airlines and it was simply left behind by the 777 and A330/340. It was a modest update of the DC-10 with new technology was called for
