John conteh was one of the greats, was my hero as a young lad. Met him after his mums Rachel's funeral, first time I've ever met him. Thought he was a proper gentleman.

I,m a lad born in the Billogs my family moved to Kirkby in 1963 and I was in St Kevins [school] with John, to say John is 72 he is looking well and is mentally agile [which is not always the case with Boxers]. When he was a kid, as I remember, his game was minding peoples cars for sixpence outside the boozers in Northwood. John was one of the very best, if not THE very best, Boxers to come from Kirkby AND LIVERPOOL. I hope he has many, many more happy and healthy years ahead if him and it was great to see him again on Billy's Channel.

I've met John several times he's an absolute diamond of a bloke ,proper gentleman .Should be more of a national treasure ,we don't see enough of him on the telly nowadays to be honest .

I worked in South London and I knew The Thomas Beckitt in the Old Kent Road . It was were Henry Cooper trained. They had a great support group for young people from the local area a great resource. The reason fighters and the whole fight scene was better back then was because people chose to box to fight there way out of poverty and tough times . Now days there are alot more choices to get out of them situations . John Conteh a man from Merseyside who became a world champion Respect .

We were absolutely honoured to have John Conteh at the opening of our Holistic and Well-being Hub In Speke. John and my Dad Alan Rudkin we’re great friends and boxing colleagues. My childhood hero, imagine my surprise when John was a special guest judge in an triservice boxing competition many years ago while I was in the military, I'm from Liverpool. I bought him a drink and he sat with myself and some friends who had absolutely no idea who he was.
