Hi everyone, a few people are asking about other expenses such as car etc. As stated in the video, this video only focuses on our basic household bills and does not include costs such as car maintenance, health insurance, rent/mortgage and of course other financial responsibilities that we have. It’s just a breakdown of our basic household bills. Hope this helps.

Ex UK resident here, now living in Jamaica . One way to try to help yourself with your food bills in Jamaica is to grow as much of your own fruit and vegetables as possible. We have the climate to grow many things here, and if you so desire, the food you grow can be 100% organic 👍🏾

My mother who is retired and now living in Jamaica spends One Hundred Thousand per month on her bills and food for 2 people. Her AC bill runs her about 30 thousand per month which is driving her mad She comes up and packs 2 barrels every 8 months which she thinks saves her from spending more. She is of the opinion that she has worked hard and will not deny herself good food regardless of cost.

Tell your mom to stop using the AC and let her body become acclimatized to our environment. America has spoiled us into thinking we cannot live without these things. More than 90% of us do. We were born here and lived quiet happily without AC and hot water.
Going up and shopping so often doesn't make sense either. By the time customs finish hustling you to clear that barrel, transportation to take it home, air fare to go and get it plus cost of goods there, it's not worth all that.
Tell her to learn to accept that she now lives on an island where she can buy or plant healthy foods. Most of the time, we are buying packaged, processed foods that are not good for us. A simple, clean diet is best for our bodies. Forget about America. The Western diet is te worse. They call it SAD. Be happy 😊 😃 ❤.

We’ve recently moved to Jamaica and what I will say is when we were staying with family etc, we bought more snacks items and ate out a few times which made the costs extreme.
Now that we have found a place short term, we have been able to buy our own food and cook it and the amount we are saving now is great…BUT what we have noticed is a lot of items especially imported items as you mentioned, are outrageously over priced! Things like dairy butter and other diary items seem costly. The prices for certain items grown right here in Jamaica can sometimes seem really expensive in some areas at the supermarkets and street markets. Either way, we still love living here and to continue our plans of having our own homestead/farm growing and rearing our own food so we know where and how it’s grown etc and also save on spending and using the hard earned money on fun day trips/hotel stays 😂
Love the videos guys keep it up, bless❤️🙏🏾

Your food bill is expensive but the other bills are quite cheap. I was out there 5 years ago and was paying those sort of bills. I don't remember how much I used to pay for food, but I always shopped around and eat fresh produce, so back then I didn't find food prices bad either. Jamaica compared to the uk prices now, is much better. Prices over here have gone through the roof on everything. I don't see how people are going to drag themselves out of poverty over here. What what I see and hear, the Jamaicans who are prepared to work have a better chance than us here in the uk.

I retired from US, cost of living is much less here (If you have a steady income like a pension). My advice to anyone coming back is to make sure you come to a place in Jamaica where the water and electricity supply is okay, because in some districts it is absolutely horrible. Last night on TVJ, they were talking about some districts in St Ann that had no water for months. The Parish Council’s response was trying to contract water trucks to deliver the water (the trucks still are not showing up). No long term plan to get NWC to provide reliable running water to those places. SMH.

@@suzyhur8161 I am going by cost of things I buy in Jamaica vs USA. Just today I bought wheat raisin bread imported from Jamaica. When in Jamaica it cost me $100JMD, Same item cost me $300JMD equivalency. Local markets cost much less in Jamaica than in the United States
