Yes you are absolutely right Jamaica is expensive. I would never spend that kind of money for those things in the supermarket. I still have the UK mindset when I shop, I wouldn't pay that in the UK, why would I pay it there. Barrels everytime and I stock up well. People say its not worth doing it but but to me it is. Don't get me wrong I do shop at the supermarket but I'm quite mindful in what I buy. I do make my own bread sometimes, I buy my chicken from someone who raises them, also other meat too, my fish from the fisherman direct, also veg direct from the farmer and I'm starting to grow some of my own veg too which is a learning experience. I already have established fruit trees. I like veg like cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, but they are so expensive even in the market so thats what I'm trying to grow. I make my own household cleaning products (much cheaper and CZcams is your friend to learn how to do this😊) You just have to learn how to adjust as much as you can. Despite everything, I still have a better quality of life there and for that I'm truly grateful.

@@christopherhall2571 pound for pound they are in places like London and the Southeast and even Birmingham. In rural cities in England prices are closer but not in Suburban London where a new build 2 bed apartment with no view and no phone signal and a long snagging list is north of £500k. Forget places close to central London, like Brixton. That money would buy much more real estate in Jamaica.

Jamaica is expensive and that's a reality.
One of the issues is that Jamaica is a manufacturing economy but a service economy. And so most of the products that you feature are imported and all the import taxes are applied, even chicken Jamaica doesn't produce enough for the local market so some of the best dressed chicken is imported

  • @deanhamilton9280

Everything your showing is imported fruits and item so you expect it to be pricey, I haven't seen one Jamaican brand as far as apple I don't look at them in the supermarket here in the USA, they're expense never mind grapes, their price is $4.99 a pound, you have to wait for sale day when they in abundant or they have to get rid of them. Expense is up to what you choice to indulge in.

This video was recorded weeks before the hurricane hit Jamaica. I’ve just had time to put the video up now. I didn’t buy the plums, or most of the things I showed in the video, just wanted to show folks how much they cost. Everything I bought was shown in the box. I eat local food every single day, and although there wasn’t much local products shown in the video, trust me they are pricey too. The cereal bars of course are not a necessity, but I felt for them. There definitely not something I have on a regular basis, and there isn’t a Jamaican local product I could buy that is similar. It’s the same with the spray. For me this is a need when cleaning. Other than bleach which is very weak out here, there isn’t a Jamaican made alternative I could purchase luv!

??? Excuse me! You do realise that most of the things in the video I didn’t actually buy!! I was showing you guys the cost of things. The few little things that I did buy were the things in the box. I do go the wholesale and we’ve featured us going wholesale shopping on the vlog before. Even in the wholesales right now things are still expensive. We buy Jamaican products where we can, but it’s not possible to buy every product we need as Jamaica doesn’t produce or make every single product. We shop in the cheaper supermarkets all the time, however there are some things you won’t find at the wholesale and cheaper supermarkets that you will find at the higher end supermarkets. We buy our vegetables and ground provisions from the market, and even now these are very expensive too. I guess it’s expensive everywhere and in a lot of countries. But we do have a clue on how to shop 👍🏾

Folks, please remember, when you purchase products that are imported, they will cost more. I always shop local and stay away from the imported products when I’m in Jamaica. We have to shop smart and let the dollar stretch.
