      It might be your TV has some noise reduction filtering getting rid of the interference lines. But Wii's analogue signal has interference before it even gets to the HDMI adapter. And the anlogue signal degrades over time due to capacitor aging - all of my Wiis now have black crush and very faint vertical lines on solid blue fields, which are even more visible when converted to HDMI. Another issue with 480p is that TVs may decode the color as HD color, making reds look orangey and washed out, yellows a bit greenish. Wii should have had HDMI built in, this was a terrible decision by Nintendo imo. But in their defence it was only 2006 and HDMI was probably very expensive back then. Where did the time go.

    If you get one of these, make sure it only outputs 480p and no upscaling. Plus you can benefit from the mCable or mClassic using 480p. The upscaling is fake. It’s only there for TV’s that can’t handle lower resolutions well so it sends a fake upscaled signal (DVI) so your TV recognizes it. The Hyperkin is good as it only does 480p.

    • @JuanDiaz-jo1rw
      @JuanDiaz-jo1rw Před 2 lety +2

      The Mclassic is not a fake upscale signal. Which is the reason why it also looks even sharper with it. If it was a fake signal, there wouldn't bee any difference from 480p to 1080p/1440p signal. I do agree on the Hyperkin HDMI solution. But you're wrong about the Mclassic. Because I actually run my Wii with the Hyperkin + Mclassic, and the difference is day and night on my TV.

      @@JMLRetroRoom
      Imho the mClassic has better picture quality at 720p than even native 1080p Switch games, since it adds 'AA' and edge highlighting etc ...and most Switch games don't even have native 1080p (and you get the benefit of having more overhead, because rendering at a lower aimed res. Which results in fewer framedips in general, but not all games) .
      On 480p signal 'output' like the Wii and GameCube though, it's a world of change imho.
      It costs a lot though, imho not really worth it for just Switch, but if you also got old consoles that do 480p (or a PS3, which has most games at 720p, and quite unique games), it's at least worth considering.

    Hold on, you compare a SCART cable but don't show it nor tell what analogue signal the SCART is carrying through the cable, the connector can carry several different analogue signals including RGB which is comparative to component. Also, we don't know what analogue signal the HDMI adapters are converting from, we could assume RGB but would rather be told from the products' descriptions since a fuzzy image is only as good as the source.

      This is interesting. I've bought 3 Wii2HDMI converters which have all had there own faults - one with distorted audio output, one with faint diagonal scan lines across the screen and huge amounts of input latency and one which had barely any input latency but had very defined vertical lines across the display.
      Basically, I'm fed up with these cheap converters and probably going to go down the same route you did - component cables into a component to HDMI converter. So, what is the Portta adapter like? I'm considering buying one.

      If you also got other older consoles (that output at 480p/720p) though, you might want to consider it.
