  • Join Aslan and I as we leave our mooring at Dutton on the Trent & mersey Canal, and continue south towards our next overnight stop, at Marston.
Along the way we pass through two dark, damp and twisty tunnels - Saltersford and Barnton. Fortunately this time, I remember to turn the light on and wear the correct glasses.
Travelling through Anderton and passed it's world-famous boat lift, we eventually arrive at the service point - where I fill Aslan's water tank, dispose of some rubbish, and empty the toilet.
A little later we moor up at Marston, where I stay for the night.

Love house cleaning day…when it’s done! We got into our car and drove a mile to the sports complex to do our 30 min power walk around the soccer fields. You get to get your exercise shopping, topping off water, empting trash and toilet. Ihope after that kind of day you treat yourself to a good meal, cup of tea, and put your feet up and recall thel lovely sights of cruising down a beautiful canal.

That was so enjoyable, thanks Kevin. You had a lovely day for it, and the tunnels were a breeze. Some lovely scenery too, and I love seeing the ducks. 💕 I’m doing catch-up on your videos as I have been preoccupied with painting my outdoor chair, trying out my new Rollator and knitting a jumper for my own Kevin, who turned 62 recently. Being 87, one has to pace oneself! 😂 Oh yes, and editing my poetry book, ready for the printers - well, nearly! 📖 See you again soon.

Yay CHG! I loved the bit where you wrote, "Scrub that" when you found that mooring. I couldn't agree more. When you find that mooring, it's 50/50, stay or go, and then that shot with those beautiful taut mooring ropes. Lovely. Perfect cup of tea time. I think you're gonna have a bumper 2022. Good. Why not. I think you have a lot of people who are thinking of you and care about you. That's a treasure. Big love.

Thank you for sharing your adventures, and for teaching me something new (wich meaning salt).
It sent me down a fascinating rabbit hole regarding the history of salt production in that area.
The different methods for extracting the salt that were used throughout history etcetera.
I’ve learnt about Lumpmen and Wallers and Lofters.
This canal is one of the most perfect places for yourself and Aslan to be - near the Lion Salt Works 🙂
    The Lion the Wich
& the Waller - a very salty tale.
    Ok.....

I think I would get nowhere quickly on a narrowboat...every time you chug past the odd branch in water, I want to 'pull to the side, get out and lug it out of the way for someone else!" That dog made me think of a sports practice where you tap a spot and then run, tap and then return...except no idea what the dog was chasing after!

There’s something extremely satisfying watching you enjoying the simple things in life, aboard the time machine that is Aslan As you travel along at “walk-speed”, life reverts from a blur to a tranquil water colour of nature and history, with a good dash of humour.

What a differance 14 days made 336 hours little hours and now it's ruddy (no pun, rudder!) cold !!! Having a pasty (homemade/baked) have switched to shortcrust pastry as my dear Dad used to make them along with the apple pie, but that's a different story. Oh the memories of a latter time (not the apple pie nor the pasties) but the memories of your trip so far. Preston Brook tunnel many memories and visiting the pub at Preston Brook which is now a spar shop and walking the length of the tunnel albeit on the top of to the next pub. I Recall your first tunnel experience and I was very anxious even though I was watching it and not actually physically being there but the claustrophobia of it did have a nervous effect on me, so well done with the tunnels Kevin.

You are getting close to my neck off the woods Kevin , on the Trent and Mersey spent my childhood playing around the Trent and Mersey and the Macclesfield canal where they meet up at kidsgrove , we used to call the Trent and Mersey the orange canal as kids owing to the iron oxide that leached into it mostly from the original Harcastle tunnel . I will keep my eye out , it would be so funny seeing you . Anyway if you need anything when passing through Let me know Staffordshire oatcakes are always a winner . Glad you are back on the move mate . Ps there is now a very handy Lidl shop at the intersection of Liverpool road and second avenue , if you tie up just before the lock that is between the canal tavern and the bluebell public house , that’s the last lock before the harecastle tunnel , it’s just a 30 second walk from the bridge if you look left with the tavern in front of you .

Well Kevin, think of it this way, that fall would have killed a lesser man. As far as the lights are concerned, possibly you were haunted by a memory from Mom, "Kevin, if your not using that damn light, shut it off!" Now that was a pleasant trip, thanks.

Arghh, don't remind me. PTSD and all that. 😉 For me it was mainly closing doors behind you. 😬😁

Fantastic Vlog ! You are the only one that I watch who actually slows down to tick over when passing moored or other boats . I commend you on being a real boater . STAY SAFE

Thank you for that Michael. I do it cos I know what it's like having someone tearing by - and I kinda hope the courtesy will be reciprocated. Still waiting. :D

Great vid Kev, love the effort you put in to show all the practical stuff that needs to be done i.e. elsan, water etc. FYI that water bird was a coot that you called a moorhen. Remember that if it has a red nose it's a moorhen, and a white nose it's a coot. I used to make the same mistake, just saying :)

Very nice seeing all the scenery and the interesting architecture along the way. I'm sorry some people haven't picked up on why you did what you did. It seemed perfectly clear and reasonable to me the first time you explained it. 🙂

Kevin, it was so nice to be cruising, again! I love the pace and the diversity you capture in your videos. Especially the pace!!! At my age I'm no hurry to move on.

Another great video😄love watching them. Any chance you can make them longer 🙂 28 minutes fly by when I enjoy them.

Cheers. I could make them longer but historically, 25 to 30 minutes is about right for CZcams. Any longer and the majority of viewers 'turn over'. Plus there's the fact that a longer video takes longer to produce, so means less videos, less often.
