I’m so glad Willem returned. He is irreplaceable as the Green Goblin.
Yeah 😎
Me too.
He cannot play for the Joker. Hes perfect for Nuidis Vulko. As a Villian Green Goblin
@@olleselin FACTS
While I think Chris Cooper would’ve made a decent Gobby in the Webb series, there’s just no topping Willem Dafoe.
I NEVER thought I'd ever feel bad for a villain like Green Goblin in my life. But Dafoe managed to pull it off perfectly. When he's Norman, he sounds like a scared and confused old man about to burst into tears
You mean you feel sorry for Norman.
@@j04370859 yeah
@ItsOnlyDannyNaw Norman was there and it's proven by his curing at the very end (very much like Otto being very different upon the new chip being installed). Needless to say the start of this very video shows that Norman is still there feuding with the Goblin.
I mean in the story the Green Goblin was always depicted as a "two-headed monster", and i think this film probably did a better job at depicting that than the first film he was in. Two people in one body; an innocent ordinary businessman, and a ruthless sadistic demon. If you don't feel bad for him then it means they didn't do it right.
@ItsOnlyDanny I believe it was stated by Goblin that he only took over when he realized he was going to be cured and realized he couldn't let that happen. I don't think it's really clear when Goblin took over, and that's a great part about this movie that you can't tell where Norman ended and where Goblin began.
What hits the hardest for me was how the realization that his son doesn’t exist is what effects Norman the most. I forget how much Norman loved Harry in between the Goblin’s control. His gives Sam Raimi’s movie so much more weight.
It's sad 😔
It just helps reinforce the point that Norman loves Harry, also another point is that Harry actually survived after all because if Norman didn't die then Harry has no reason to go after Spiderman
I just love how Willem Dafoe gives his performances in the movie, where as Norman Osborn he is more scared and has no idea what is going on, while Green Goblin is more scary and sinister.
Went from 2002 to 2021 would do that to a stressed man
Norman is really someone who has to face with his own demons
@@guts-141 what
Unless…. He does know and does remember and is putting up an act… because in tbh in the comics Osborn is much more self obsessed and arrogant and very much bad in every away imaginable but I really wish he was genuinely good it’s just there’s something about him … in this movie that makes me think he is bs everyone regardless
wow it's almost like that was the point😮😮😮
I like how the Greedy Goblin persona isn't totally gone. Him stealing the donuts was a nice touch. It's both funny, insightful, and chilling in it's implication that evil never dies.
yep hahahah
All the Green Goblin is is Norman without inhibitions, so that's just what was naturally already present within all of us.
@@reversalmushroom very well said my friend
@@reversalmushroom That remains me a lot to Jekyll and Hyde! Which makes me to love this more
Him stealing the donuts in the background starting at 2:22 always cracks me up, Willem you madlad
Yes! Same. It's such a small thing but yeah. Everytime I see him steal the donuts I laugh. I guess it's just funny to imagine a guy who was head of a large corporation suddenly being reduced to having to steal food.
I think he still had it back in his universe and gave it to harry 😂
I like to imagine that it wasn't scripted and he was just hungry and hoping he wouldn't get into trouble for it but the everyone saw it and said :yes that perfect 😂
Maybe the Goblin inside him was too hungry lol
The Goblin inside him took over his body for a few seconds 🤣
Mr. Dafoe still provided us a fantastic performance even after almost twenty years! Looked totally the same as it ever was.
Dafoe looks older, which is to be expected. Molina looked almost the exact same as Spider Man 2
@@joeytaylor1021 both of them were digitally de-aged for this movie
@@joeytaylor1021 you got those backwards
@@DeadCell_XIII no, Goblin looks a lot older than before, Doc Ock looks very similar to 2004
0:37;My reaction when Miles gets grounded in "Spider-man across the Spider-verse 1."
2:56 I love that Tobey's Peter says the same thing to Tom's Peter later in the movie. Spider-Man helps people, he doesn't kill them.
and Aunt May says it to Tobey in SM 3 after the Sandman sewer scene!
0:36 i always love that goblin laugh, willem truly irreplaceable for green goblin
@Ian Robert Davies Try Joker's laugh in Dark knight
0:00 that shot is a subtle homage to the Raimi trilogy as those 3 movies had a lot of NYC skyline sunrise shots to transition between scenes, and it's obviously placed right before another iconic Green Goblin conversation
Yo i never noticed that. Good eye
With your "subtle homage" bit I thought this was going to turn into a "Raimi post" meme.
I noticed that and I went to the comments section to see if anybody else had noticed as well. You guys are amazing :D
@@gameplayripper Same here !
Also the silence in the shot, that’s usually interrupted by a car horn. Very Raimi.
There’s a reason why Gobby is the Joker of Marvel. Only they know how to hit their nemesis’ where it hurts
He is something of a scientist himself
He’s something of a donut lord himself
@@joscar062 A word to the not so wise
hahahaha he's something of a donut hoarder himself aye
It's great seeing the Green Goblin again and this shows what his psyche would truly look like as a human. I also like that May didn't try to guilt trip Peter into helping but she had him wonder if he was truly being altruistic or selfish by wanting to send Norman back home for help.
I really like how this scene felt so much like Sam Raimi’s Spider-man trilogy, with the shots of the city with the sunrise and with Willem Dafoe’s incredible performance as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin.
I love how they did goblin and Norman. The mask was essentially the wall the separated both Norman and Goblins personalities. When it shattered the two collided and the stronger personality suppressed the weaker one.
2:22 Makes me wonder if that was the Green Goblin making him sneak those donuts like that.
Nah, he has PTSD from Aunt May's hand slap.
Maybe it’s to feed the Gobby side of his.
He's just had a body altering serum he's bound to feel hungry
Willem really delivered the best performance of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide that I've ever seen, and he did it all as the Green Goblin.
0:37 Goblin’s laugh still creeps me out. Dafoe really nailed it
I loved Willem Dafoe's cameo. He really captures how confused the Green Goblin feels about suddenly been thrust in an unfamiliar universe.
Role actually
It’s not exactly a cameo if he’s the main antagonist of the movie
no way you actually think he’s just a cameo💀
I guess you can consider Sandman and Lizard a cameo since they do nothing in the film
1) Sandman forgave Peter there was no use for him to fight another Peter once again
2) Lizard nor Sandman died in the films (unless if you want to bring out that the lizard’s alter ego died) and Lizard was just useless in the film, he stays in the truck, scratches Strange, brings Peter back into the condominium for Goblin to fight him, and his CG looked off
Buddy, he’s literally the main villain of the movie lol.
It feels so good to see Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn/Green Goblin again after about 14 years.
I know him from mr.bean

*1:42** An iconically tragic scene. All Norman wanted was to finish his project, but it went wrong. I feel the same nostalgic feeling as Spider-Man (2002).*
This scene isn't tragic.

“You know I’m something on movie clips myself” Willem dafoe will never be replaced as the green goblin, he is just too good 👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
William Defoe will be replaced as The Green Goblin.
@@trevturp6891 if they do that I won’t watch
@@Haleycarol That's on you.
@@Haleycarol That's your loss. Actors have to be recast in roles and this is something that has happened, so you shouldn't have the mindset that only one actor can portray one role.
Norman’s sadness at the sight of a world where his son doesn’t exist proves that he did love Harry.
It's wild how one of the best villains in the MCU doesn't even originate from the MCU
Defoe's Green Goblin isn't an MCU villain.
I love the callback to the 2002 mirror scene in the alley.
I remember playing the spiderman 1 and 2 game on the GameCube years ago, and seeing Willem as Gobby again after years is the most nostalgically incredible thing ever. Despite the fact I never saw the 2 movies but played the games around 2010 to 2014 is so great (I was born in 2005)
Same here. I did watch the movies but I’m much more fond of the games. The part where Green Goblin arrives into the MCU kinda felt like one of the CGI cutscenes from the first game to me.
I Love How He Stole The Donut While Peter And May Were Talking Lmaooo.. Shows That It Was The Goblin Manipulating Them All Along
How does stealing a donut prove that it was the Goblin in this scene? Norman is alone in this new universe with no money, house, or connections. I don't think it's that hard to believe that a frightened old man would steal a donut
Damn, that Aunt May hand slap probally traumatized him.
@@crispwater7294 I think he was just making a joke
Because green globin love to steal food
He was just hungry bruh. Also Why Do You Type Like This ?
Everyone talks about Willem as the Green Goblin, but I see almost no one talking about him as Norman, and it's really a shame. I love the way he plays the lost, scared, and tortured Norman who wants nothing more than to be free of the Goblin, and to get help. It's such a good performance that really makes you feel bad for him and makes the Goblin taking control later on be that much more impactful. You really feel for Norman...and I love when his inner science nerd shows up later too when Peter's working on a new chip for Octavius, being so fascinated at what Peter's doing and his skills. Willem nailed both the more grounded part of his performance with Norman and, of course, he's still incredible as the Goblin.
I was happy to see Norman Osborn in this movie! Two decades later and this movie brings him back from the dead
Man the nostalgia I love Willem’s performance, his purple hoodie and the green coat are very cool tho.
It was really heartbroken as he say ''My Son'' I wished they had bring James Franco's Harry back too 😔
With how James Franco has acted in recent times he'd have damaged the movie
@@joshuapope9225 I hate it when celebs do that
I'm just glad kirsten dunst mary jane didn't come back she be screaming and starting drama again I hated her in the Spiderman films.
As much nostalgia the original goblin suit gives me, this movie proved Willem doesn't need the mask, he IS the goblin
Fun fact: When Norman is himself he uses prosthetic teeth, but when Green Goblin is in control Willem Dafoe has his real teeth.
Marisa Tomei has always been fabulous! Very nice😉😉
This laugh is soooo iconic
yeah
I was impressed how quick Green Goblin was able to figure out that they were in different universe
Well norman was something of a scientist and the Goblin was also part of him so uhhh yeah.
he is supposed to be very intelligent
0:31 This scene is written right. Green Goblin destroys his mask just like Kylo Ren did in The Last Jedi.
Don't compare trash like The Last Jedi to No Way Home
@@maverick5408 The Last Jedi is a terrible movie but the breaking the mask scene it’s the only thing that they did right.

Palpatine? Any Relations?
I can see that Marvel added that purple tint to green goblins mask, the same they did to his mask back in 2002. It’s so cool that even the smallest details are re-added.
Marvel didn't do that.
@@trevturp6891 Then who did?
0:36 that laugh
I remember how loud everyone in the theater got once the helmet started talking! 💚
Norman Osborn really is a fantastic character when you can have portrayals of him being a monster before he became Green Goblin (Spectacular Spider-Man) and at the same time have two movies where he is sympathetic and tragic.
He isn't sympathetic and tragic in this terrible movie and in Spiderman 1.
I'll never forget when Aunt May made her point to save Peter and the others
But it was stupid of her to tell him that he should save people that don't deserve to be saved.
19 years later and he still got it.
🦁
Still got the moves
he's one of a kind
He’s sacrificed a lot
0:34-0:37 that’s the last time I ever saw this green goblin’s mask.
Anyone else notice the first shot is like a Raimi film shot of New York from the 2000’s Spider-Man movies? Before the alley scene? Magic.
Dafoe is such a great actor, he treats Osborn not like an evil villain, but someone suffering from mental illness, you feel so bad for him, and yet once he flips he's one of the best supervillians ever.
Exactly. Villains today kind of suck.
The best villains are the ones that you understand where they are coming from. Yet they are over the top and cartooney and memorable. Goblin and joker are examples of that
I mean Norman was still an abusive father who sold millions of weapons to the military, really he killed more as Osborn than the Goblin
@@asterolivine5367 abusive?
I was sad when he broke the mask, I liked it
It's almost like no time has changed.
Just one scene of DaFoe as the Goblin, and it feels like it's 2002 again.

Wilem Dafoe cemented his place as one of the most iconic villains on screen.
Norman: "Someone's living in my house."
Green Goblin: "Not for long."
love how Normas Osbourne clothing color tone fits Green Goblin like back Sam Raimi.
The absolute BEST Green Goblin 💚
no other actor could pull off what he did
I love how Norman and the goblin are polar opposite of each other.
That outfit is one of the coolest I've ever seen, I wish we got to see more of it.
Not gonna lie, I wish we saw at least one more scene with him in the old mask. I know a lot of people didn't like the mask, but I personally loved it.
I liked the mask but it showed the transition he'd made going from a world where he needed to hide his identity to one where they only know him as The Goblin
me too his mask is so iconic. I got kinda upset that they made him break it
Glad he finally broke his power ranger mask
@@KillerKondom He's scarier without it on.
I'm glad he got rid of it. For one I think he looks scarier without it and two that mask looked super corny
Man, I love Willem. He plays a man who has forgotten how much he has sacrificed BRILLIANTLY lmao. love him
he knows what it means to be an actor and takes his job very serious
Norman never should’ve destroyed his own Goblin mask
I really loved that mask. The yellow eyes are what makes it awesome.
It’s just symbolism
Willem Dafoe stole the show imo. One of the greatest actors of all time.

@Clint O'Connell Ironic fact, Mark Hamill also voiced the Hobgoblin from the 1994 Spider-Man Animated series.
0:32 I renounce you!
i love how in the background u can see norman stealing whatever is in the box
Anyone else find it terrifying that the green goblin immediately knew he wasn’t in his universe?
That’s amazing.
it's because he's quite smart, he knew something wasn't right.
When I was 1 I saw the very First Spider-Man, it was 2005 and it was on the VHS and here I am about 18 years later to this on the big screen, this was TRUE honer 😭🤩
It’s a shame Harry wasn’t in the film. Being able to see Norman and Harry reunite would have been amazing.
He’s stealing the donuts😂😂😂
