"More Than a Feeling" is a song by the American rock band Boston. Written by Tom Scholz, it was released as the lead single from their self-titled debut album on Epic Records in September 1976, with "Smokin'" on the b-side. The single peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. The track is now a staple of classic rock, and in 1999, it was named the 39th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. It was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll and was also ranked at Number 500 on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, though it was dropped from the 2010 update.
The song took Tom Scholz five years to complete. It is one of six songs (five of which eventually appeared on the Boston album) that he worked on in his basement in 1974 and 1975, before Boston got its record contract. The drum parts were originally developed by Jim Masdea, although Sib Hashian played the drums on the official release. The verses are in the key of D major while the chorus is in G major. The song is in compound AABA form.

I play the piano and do many arrangements myself, I’m in love with 80s and 90s rock. In Russia, I played with several bands. One of them is the best Led Zeppelin tribute band in Russia called "Plumbum Dreams". The other one is called "Back from the USSR", where we played Beatles songs in my own arrangements. We played in Liverpool, England almost every year on the Beatles week fest. My dad, Valeriy Yarushin is my bass player in this band. He's a legend of Russian folk-rock and his band “Ariel” was most popular in the 70s and still is now. I learned a lot from him.
In 2004, I won the “International Hopes of Europe” competition in Sochi, Russia along with the “Grand Prix” prize for singing I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston.

IMPRESSIVE!!!! Not many people realize that Brad Delp hit those VERY high notes near the end of the song. Most people just think it is a guitar but it's really him and you managed to hit them yourself as well. Well done.

Late 1976, I was listening to music on a vinyl turntable with two 2 watt speakers. I went into a REAL stereo equipment store and, for the first time, heard More Than A Feeling that was played from a wall of speakers 10 feet high that made the floor and walls shake. I just stood there as my ears ripped into my brain with the entire song burning a track into my memory. To this day, that experience has driven me to play music on a daily basis. Aly, you come close to that. Thank you.

I know exactly how you feel. I shared a bedroom with an older brother who bought some massive Jamo speakers coupled with a Sansui turntable and amplifier, all crammed into a small bedroom. When this and other songs were played at a decent volume, it was fantastic, infinitely better than the all in one system that my parents had. Like yourself, I also play music every day. Cheers!

This is my all time favorite song.... Boston songs are really difficult as hell, and anyone who can sing this one, can do the impossible!
Wow...where to begin...there is a series of CZcams videos by Rick Beato, a musician, producer and a great guy overall. It's called 'What Makes This Song Great?', where he plays a studio tracks of a particular (great) song, first as a whole, and then he plays every lead and backup voice(s), every instrument track separately, analyzing and describing all the high points, techniques, arrangements etc, i.e. all those things that summarily made that song GREAT.
About a week ago I happened to watch his such a video about 'More Than a Feeling' by 'Boston', written, arranged, mixed and recorded by MIT graduate and his own electronic equipment 'Rockman' creator Tom Scholtz, who also happened to be the lead guitar payer of 'Boston'.
But now I think Alyona's voice has also become a part of what makes this song both different, but still great, I think the late great Brad Delp would've approved HER version of this gem with all those soaring high notes he was known for! BTW, loved that lyrics change from 'girl' to 'boy'...
This video should add at least few thousand more subscribers to Alyona's channel instantly.

@@Scarywoody I don't disagree, yes this song will always be associated with Brad and his singing of it will always be THE ONLY 'RIGHT' one. Still, there are versions that you can listen to, though in your mind they might be 'not right', but still enjoyable. I think it's pretty common when a song and its original singer always go together and are perceived as one.

I grew in a suburb of Boston, and saw one of BOSTON's 1st shows, if not the 1st show at what was the Music Hall or the Orpheum Theater in Boston 45 yrs ago. This song still lets me close my eyes and drift away. Thanks for singing and sharing!
