    Hi! Is it best to keep them stored in a fridge with ceramic wrap? Or can we place them in an air tight container? thanks!

      once cut, any veggie is going to not last very long and cukes are the worst of the bunch.

    So is it best to keep the English cucumbers wrapped as they come from the store and in the fridge or should I unwrap them and then put them in the fridge?

  • @theresabyars5707
    @theresabyars5707 Před 2 lety +2

    I check these cukes very carefully! Even at the grocery store they get bounced around and damaged. So check carefully because they will go bad real fast if they have a soft spot on them.

      What goof I think JJ is. You likely mean to ask : What's the best practice to store those mini Cucumbers that look similar to the English cucumber. And if so then my advise on best practice is to remove cucumbers from packaging and wrap a paper towel around them so each individual cucumber is basically separated from the other and store on the top shelf in the fridge.

    Thanks Jerry - good info. As the mini cukes I learned last week are not to go in the fridge and because of your video I now know the ‘English ones are’ and not in the crisper!! Keep the good info. Coming.

    • @01mustang05
      @01mustang05 Před 2 lety +3

      Paper towel will wick off moisture, and auto-defrost fridges dehumidify themselves - and top shelf is right because less dense air rises being less humid. So you heard good and thanks for sharing Suz.

    im trying to find out if it's necessary to aggressively clean cucumbers with salt bc these days on social media i see people really really washing the cucumbers before using it but all my life I ate english cucumbers and just rinsed them. Does it depend on the type of cucumber ? in the videos I see it's not english cucumbers they use but it got me thinking if all these years i actually needed to scrub my cucumbers with salt or lay it in salt water before using it

      @@jerryjamesstone Thank you. Those are the only cucumbers that I can eat because the others cause Reflux. Sadly, where I live you must buy them in a package of six or so, and they seem to mold and disintegrate in the refrigerator. Sometimes I only want to buy one or two, but that seems impossible. I end up blending the remaining into my V8 Juice from the package that I can salvage. It's not a bad alternative. I just wish I knew how to store them better so they would last longer.

    • @aweoak7763
      @aweoak7763 Před rokem

      When I buy I remove that shrink plastic .I wrap it in a kitchen cotton towel & then wrap it loosely around a "plastic sheet" ; to keep the front and back of cucumber open. I slice as I need, eating progressively. For the "Plastic sheet" : Cut the bottom of any plastic bag, now you've 2 openings. Slide the cucumber wrapped in towel in & wrap it loosely. This set up stays as it is until the last slice of the English cucumber. Maximum 10 days.

      This helped me. I started buying English Cucumbers for the first time and was wondering if they would last longer on the counter versus in the fridge, and this told me exactly what I needed to know: they don't.
      Made the mistake of buying a bit too many last time I went shopping thinking they'd last longer since they're wrapped but lesson learned. These are pricier but they definitely seem tastier and "juicier" than any of the standard slicing cucumbers you get here, at least at the grocery store.
