  • I let 500,000Litre through these filters probably should have changed them a lot sooner. This dechlorinator as with all of them work better the slower the water goes through it this is one of the reasons I trickle the water into my ponds.

    Here's a tip on putting the filter back on. Turn it Counter clockwise first until you hear the sound when the tread lines up, then turn it clockwise to tighten it. Is much easier than trying to line it up. It works all the time.

    The DPD tablets work better if you crush them immediately after dropping into the test sample, if there is a tiny amount of chlorine you won't get that pink tint untill the tablet has fully dissolved.
    At the swimming pool I work at we use DPD1 and DPD3 tablets to test free chlorine and combined, we use a little plastic stick to crush the tablets to get a immediate result

    Hi Adam sorry only now had chance to look at it video GREAT VIDEO
    I will not speak to soon but since we spoke last time I have lowerd my pump down to 80% and so far it has worked my proffi drum has not keeped on running after a clean.
    My only issue is the flys in the drum. lots of them I have bought a wet and dry Hoover and I have to hoover them out everyday.
    in the future it would be nice if you could do a live link up to your pond so people can speak live to you.
    Keep up the great work

      one of the biggest thing i have learnt with with chlorine filters is price does not reflect performance i used to buy a set of filters for £200 that wouldn't perform well and didn't last long (these are the ones i used in the video) i since bought some cheep about £20 each carbon blocks that never let a drop of chlorine through and i change them yearly now mostly for the sake of it and not because they have stopped working.

    Hi Adam
    Thank you for your answer
    At the moment I have the profi drum and nexus for my pond , the profidrum work well as I set the sensor Probe 4 cam down from the water level when all the Pump run . But when I do the regular clean for the nexus ,in the K1 micro chamber , its still gets a lot dirty things come out
    So with the New Profi Drum BIO with the K1 chamber on side ,how can we clean the K1 chamber ?
    because water go direct to the K1 chamber after the drum (it's different with Nexus , water have to pass the K1 micro chamber first before to K1 chamber , so less dirty come in )
    So If I set up for my new Pond , can I do like this
    1/ bottom drain and skimmer to Profi drum BIO with K1 chamber ,
    2/ then from the Profi drum BIO to Bead filter , than finall thing to water fall
    What do you think about this set up ?
    Can you please recommend me some your advising ?

    Adam - That still shows an unacceptable level of chlorine at 9.05. You are flowing much too fast through the carbon filters.

    hi Adam, a question on your profidrum. It looks like you have the profidrum plumbed to run the cleaning spray nozzles from the clean water side of the drum. How much water does this take out of the system each clean cycle? Is that something you have to remember to add water back into the pond for? Thanks in advance!! Love the channel!!

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety

      Hi Brett, All of my drum filters use the water from the clean side of the drum and they do use a lot of water. They use about 1-2 litre every time they clean depending on the size of the drum and time it’s cleaning. My smallest tank 500gallons does not actually clean very often so it does not use much water probably 20litre per day it’s a big filter small pond. My 1000gallon tank has a lot of fish and a small drum and that uses a lot of water about 100-150litre per day my main ponds drum uses about 150-200litre per day. So they do have a good water consumption but you need to replace every bit of that water you cannot let the drum reduce the ponds volume or it will get stuck on and drain your pond. The reason it will drain the pond is because it takes a low water level as a sign it needs to clean so if the ponds water level is actually low then it will keep cleaning and cleaning until you see it has drained the pond and top it back up that takes a bit of getting right and you will drain your pond a few times before you get it right.

      Adam, thanks for the reply. So you just top up your pond every day or d do you have an auto fill set up somehow? To bad you can't plumb the spray bar straight to an outside water line. That way the drum wouldn't be using pond water to flush waste down the chute.

  • @iamhe981
    @iamhe981 Před 5 lety +1

    Why are you not removing the chlorine with a cheap UV filter instead? Why are you adding water constantly anyway? Its not necessary to use so much water if you have good filtration.

    Hi Adam, I've watched your videos for years and was wondering what reducer you used on your generator exhaust pipe?

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 2 lety

      Its just a stainless steal 1.5" to 2" reducer off ebay the only you need to keep an eye on is if the exhaust is 1.5" external you need the reducer to be 1.5" internal so it fits over.
      I've seen an actual exhaust extension in the accessories list for the generator I have but I didn't know about it when buying the generator.
      I also increased the pipe size because I extended a generators exhaust before and it caused it to melt the valves after a few year as it couldn't breath well enough I presume.

      @@AdamJulyan no problems at all, it's an amazing install. Down here in Australia we are having a wet summer where every day is raining now, but typically a summer day here is about 46 degrees and with frequent power cuts this thing could overheat in the future so I'll keep it in mind. I only need about 4 amps so this is perfect.

    Hi adam. What dechlorinating unit is that and is it a 10" jumbo. I currently run a standard 10" vyair unit but want to plumb it in properly like yours but have found the standard units leak slightly even under just household water pressure so I'm now looking at the vyair jumbo range as like yours I have higher pressure ratings with pressure valves on. Thanks bud.

    HI Adam
    After see few your videos , finally could you please recommend what type of filter is good for koi Pond ?
    I see you have both Nexus filter with profit drum and EP pressure filter combine together
    Planing buy the filter for my pond but not sure Gravity filter (nexus ) or pressure filter ( from Sacramento koi filter )
    Can you please give me some advice ?
    Thanks

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety

      I absolutely love my ProfiDrums they are very expensive but they are just fantastic filters and make koi keeping such a pleasure.
      if the choice is between a bead filter and a nexus i am not sure which way i would go they both have advantages and disadvantages that rival each other. for example if you want -
      the best water clarity then bead filter
      the best ammonia and nitrite processing then Nexus
      the easiest to clean then i would say bead filter but these 100% need cleaning you cannot go on holiday and leave it for a bit.
      The best thing you can do for a pond with a Nexus on it is to put a bead filter after the nexus i did this on my pond and it made such a big difference. Nexus and bead work perfectly together but even then they will never be as good as a profidrum although a profidrum needs a biological filter after it or get the model with the k1 chamber on the side.

    Hi mate was after a little info, does PP reduce the salt in the water as they recommend 0.01% salt

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety

      Richard Hodkinson PP and salt is an area that I don't think is well covered. salt can react with PP so i would say no salt when treating PP. salt can be a harsh treatment and so can PP so the combination may not have posetive results. as for 0.01% my tap water has more salt than this so I would say as long as you have not salt treated and added salt you will be fine with PP.
      Hope that helps

    Can a koi pond be 10 ft in depth? Or is there a limit for koi. Also, I wanted to ask you if you made a video about your current filter room setup? Nice video as always. Thank you :)

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety +2

      I'm not sure what the max depth for koi actually is but they don’t like going too deep i would never make a pond deeper than 7ft because it does bring some issues you will get away with a 10ft pond as long as it has ledges at other heights you will find the koi probably never go to the bottom. If the pond is straight 10ft deep then the koi will never be able to sit on the bottom and rest even in my pond this is an issue they like to sit in the skimmer.
      I dont really have one video showing my entire setup i might have to do that.
