Great info, been looking into these and need to incorporate one. I’m very impressed that a floating head and dangling pair of arms is able to service it
Its a great feature! 😂😂👍
LOL!
Awesome basic system. Good vid. Tnks for sharing.
The pipe work behind you... Picasso would adore it ;) All great tips, thanks. I am getting rid of my RO system, had enough of scapers hitec tanks and this will replace it for my new oldschool lowtec (low meitanance) dirt based tanks. Cheers.
Great information. Buying water treatments can surely add up over time.
They sure can - but I get the mots benefit being able to do a drip system auto water change
I've seen tons of info on fast and easy diy water changes, but they always leave out the filtering out the chlorine. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction to be able to stop lugging water buckets.
Yeaa prolly one of the best ways to get clean water straight from the tap with out having to mess with it also if you use some gradual sediment filters in the early stages you can get crystal clear water
Great video, I've been searching youtube for 'non chemical' water changes this fits the bill.
Enjoyable video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I’ve never had to use dechlorinator as I’ve had a whole house filter system in place before I ever kept fish. And mine is just a simple one stage carbon filter, which is basically the same idea as this one. (One stage was all that was available at that time.) Although I can see the benefits of a multi-stage filter and that may be a future upgrade, especially as I live at the end of a dead end street and get a lot of sediment sent up this way. Having a separate sediment filter that could be changed separately and more frequently would be beneficial.
Oh god, this makes me really appreciate swiss water. My pre-filter looked almost fully brand-new after ~4-5 months uf useage.
You're lucky - my water isn't even considered that bad!! I know some people whose filters look like this after 6 - 8 weeks!
Great content
Great information mate, water conditioner cost a lot and it does stack up over time. Great filter to neutralise water and make it safe for the beneficial bacteria 👍
Thanks for checking it out 👍
Could I use that filters in line with garden hose to filter water for my aquarium ? Or I need a special pump ?
Hi , Where did you get the drip tips from ? :-)
does theres filters need to run constantly run? i plan to do get a cheap shower mixer to run of my boiler/cold mains to match my tank, but i will only do water change once a week.
Hi buddy ,,, are you full flow into the hma ,,,,, and drip out
Was wondering if this gets rid of Nitrates as well ? As here I have 40ppm Nitrate..
Great video. Evolution aqua make a single tube one, they call it Detox Dechlorinator. Do you think there would be disadvantages to that over a 3 stage system like this?
I don't know anything about that unit other than a quick google just now. Looks good!
anyone know how to buy these in the USA, they are are 6 times the cost on amazon?
Cheers for this. I have just built my first giant tank (a shade under 1,000 litres) and I am looking into this new wizardry called 'drip systems'.
You don't happen to have a video of how to actually setup an HMA filter by any chance?
I'm not the best DIY specialist in the world, and would love to see how you got to set yours up.
Cheers,
Jaymes
Hi - I might do one at some point - but you can get them pre-built so all the DIY you need it plugging in a hose!
Thank you so much for posting this. And Dad Jokes are Life
put granules in the middle and carbon block the last. so the dust from granules can be blocked.
The same system I want to run on my tanks I already have the 3 stage house filters set up just need to add the drains (diy style).
Excellent - good luck with the drains / drilling!
No drilling diy overflows
How can you limit the flow with these. I have one which says it has a max of 3.5l/min but it will let you go much higher than that. There is no way to regulate the flow other than guess work :/
I use sodium thiosolphate, £7 for 1kg which you mix 15g to 500ml in a bottle of de-chlorinated water. Use 5ml per 40L of water. Cheap as chips!
I can see how your approach or AA's would make sense for those with huge tanks or loads of tanks. That 1 KG would last me and my tank forever! Great if your water company adds chlorine if they add chloramine then you have a bunch of ammonia left over to deal with. If your biological filtration is up to it, that should handle it.
So I’m actually toying with this ant the moment and have a sediment filter first and then a 5 micron carbon. Still getting about 1ppm chlorine in the water. Any recommendations?
Pentek and Spectrum filters seem to be the best. Eg - amzn.to/2H6xHxM or www.finerfilters.co.uk/spectrum-9-premier-carbon-block-filter-pcb9.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAn4PkBRCDARIsAGHmH3dKYY6Z_H9LXboY0ovlBhMlcuc_ESweBzlFXMW7L9BaK6RaJ0mqwwcaAr0_EALw_wcB
The filters I see are only rated to remove 95% chloramine, which from .7 ppm would still leave .035 ppm, which is well above the safe .002 to .005 depending on species. I see some that are gravity powered ceramic which remove 99.9% but those different.
I need a lot of help with my fish tank and I haven’t been able to find anyone to help me, I have been having constant issues with my bettas tank, there is always a oil film on top of the tank and there seems to be a lot of bacteria in the tank which has been making him ill.... I do water changes, I clean the gravel, I tried different meds on him, I got rid of my plants and then my decor thinking that’s a issue and now I some how got baby snails in my tank. I’m going to get a new tank and don’t want this to happen again.... I really need help it’s stressing me out and I need a professional
Would a RO filter work if my water comes from a Nearby Water Well?
RO removes everything so the hardness of the water is basically 0. You can't just add that straight in to a tank, you have to mix it with minerals or some tap water otherwise the PH won't be stable. You only need it for marine tanks or if you have very hard tap water.
Do you have the info on the temp mixing valve?
Model? Manufacturer?
To be honest I can't remember - any generic TMV will do though.
@@AquariumAdventures Hi - i am also very interested in using a TMV valve but struggling to find any that will mix to a temp of 25/26 C in the UK.
@@chrisdotbrown1 Afraid I cant remember where I got mine - it has a low temp range of 30 C, but actually comes out at 20 c when set there
I'll have a dig around and see if I can find the model etc.
Aquarium Adventures many thanks. I may just take a punt on a quality unit and see if it will do a lower temp. If it works I’ll post the make as well.
Wish I had the room for a fish room
I was looking for a home filtration system just like that to do my fish room in New Jersey but no one could give me a 100% guarantee that they had a filter media that would take out chloramines. but now that I live in Florida I live on a well so no fuss no muss no filters no prime
Living with a well makes things easier!
Does it not cost more? HMA start up set is around £36, then £12 for filter replacements after every 2000gal, when a £11 250ml bottle of Seachem Prime treats 2200gal?
Works out cheaper for me (but I know not everyone) and there are the other benefits which make it worth it
Im in the UK and havent treated my tap water before putting it in the aquarium for several years with no ill effect
I know a few discus keepers who just use straight untreated tap water and do fine. Lots of places have good water sources in the UK. mine isn't bad, but they do use chlorine sometimes, and not always with any warning!
MARK COPLEY where in uk as im in falkirk are and have 19 tanks 25 percent nothing effected have safe and stability for new tanks but im with you on this bud
One question i have, i run a 220l discus tank, I'm changing like 50% twice a week. I've made water changes so much easier than buckets, I bought a pump and pipe. So I pump water out the tank and down the drain.. but next is the issue. i need the water at the right temperature and also treated. the way I have gone is I fill the big container and get it to the right temp, then add prime then pump that in. id LOVE to take that step out. i suppose there are 2 options, getting the water coming out at the right temp and feeding it straight into the tank, adding prime as its going in. or I can run it through hma, but I really don't think it would be worth it. i have no way of setting it up permanently, and I want easy! I live near manchester and our water seems to be very good, doesn't smell of chlorine, its super low nitrates etc etc. I'm thinking I probably wouldn't even need any form of water treatment, so I really think I would be fine adding the water to the tank, then treating it? thanks!!
On my dispaly tank for refilling I have a HMA which fills a big container, with a heater and a pump in it. The container is fed by the HMA via a float switch so as I pump water into the tank using the pump and a hose, it refills itself. If I didn't have the HMA I'd use prime or safe, and i'd treat the water as it was going in the main tank. I did that for a long time before I got my HMA filter.
I have discus myself too
The way i am doing is as follow
I got a bucket around 30ltrs, i am using the shower hose to fill the bucket on the right temperature and with my pump and garden hose i am moving the water into my tank, i use in the tank the right amount of prime for the whole tank then leave it to fill it up.
I might ending up by get my tank temp 1° less sometimes but its all good, even my fry discus get this way of water changing and is wayyy easier
Sir I have Discus fish tank who many time can I change the water in week
You can change it every day if you want
I did 30% every other day.
Thats fine if you have multiple tanks. Certainly not cost effective for hobby aquariums.
All my aquariums are hobby aquariums. I also have one aquarium with a dedicated HMA, works out cheaper for me, but it's the other benefits that do it for me. (i.e cleaning and removing toxins before they get to the aquarium)
Leaving buckets of water out over night will gas off chlorine.
I mentioned that in the video - won't do anything for Chloramins though.
do your tanks have painted back?
Yes, most of them do.
@@AquariumAdventures what color is it painted?
Some white, some blue, some black
What labour / money saving tips do you use for your water changes?
My housekeeper does my water change when I just don't have the time...
That whole system seems cumbersome. I only have 4 tanks and change water twice a month using seachem safe at 1/16 teaspoon per 20 gallons. Overkill on the 8-10 gallon tanks causes no noticeable negative effects.
I wish I had someone to do my water changes! 👍
It may look cumbersome - but saves me so much time allowing me to automate water changes
@@AquariumAdventures m
Is this simply an osmosis filter? activated charcoal, cleans up the toxins that can go right? and that of the microns, does it not remove the minerals from the water? Do you use 100% osmosis water? Does not it harm the fish? I liked to put together such a system, but simply to remove chlorine and heavy metals and toxins that might appear. I have doubts how to do it. Excuse the English. greetings and continues, good video 👌
No - it is a HMA (Heavy Metal Axe) which just removes toxins but leaves all other parameters the same. Not a RO.
Even in my huge fish room it’s simply not worth it, a 2.2lb jar of safe will 24000 gallons for $32. I agree Prime is a waste in a large room but Safe will last years for most.
I get your point - i'm looking more at the other benefits (plus Safe is not that cheap everywhere - costs more than double that in many places). Safe deals with things in you water in the aquarium - this stops them getting there. I can't do my auto water change with safe. You're right though - it's not for everyone.
I’ve always wanted one... but waste water... and plumbing issues.. not sure
Doesn't waste any water
And dead easy to plumb in - or not, you can use hose fittings and just use it when you need it.
Aquarium Adventures I was think RO !!
Brilliant vid just what im after... now I'm interested in a similar auto water top up system...furryboots r ye Fay???
New sub fay me !
Scottish man in combat clothes I think braveheart 😬
Freeeedom!
I'm starting to worry about you - you're desperate to see my legs!! 😂😂
Aquarium Adventures lol
we dont even need those in Finland
why water change ?
Really?
Water conditioner is cheap enough
Seachem Safe.
Great stuff.
Someone shows how to save money and it’s a Scotsman lol
Can't beat a good stereotype! 😂👍
You have got a fantastic set of teeth.
seachem prime is shit value really ..... safe is amazing !!!!
