    Another top repair Max, buying that proprietary item, and modifying it, rather than stock bearing material is a lot cheaper, good to see it being done ✔.

      Hi Max - I use Ifanger boring bars - In new zealand the agent is Trade Tools and they sell on Trademe - you can get different shape heads - grooving , 55 degree , 60 degree , boring to a shoulder , boring through and acme - And different size,s
      I made up an adaptor so I can use the ifanger heads with my Boring head on the mill
      they also make solid bars with 8mm and 10mm shanks
      But you probably already know this
      Thanks I enjoy your video's and Like you I personalise my machines to how how I think it should be done oil grooves on the tailstock more lubrication points

    fun video, thanks for sharing, there are some interesting video's from back east India, Pakistan. some of those guys have a tool for the lathe that performs the task of oil groves very well. it plunges in and out of the bore as the lathe turns. the depth of plunge is adjustable as well. they make very nice figure eights. love your channel.

    Hi Max, my 13" lathe has the translation gears coupled together with a single key on the coupler and large circlip with a sealed ball bearing to run on, no lubrication required, probably same as your Taiwanese lathe.
    My Dean Smith & Grace was even better, separate gear train running in oil driving feed shaft, not driven by noisy change gears, simply swung the banjo out to disengage the lead screw when not threading.
    Hate the sound of noisy change gears at higher speeds.
    I use motor cycle chain lube on my lathes, sticks like shit to a blanket!

    • @swanvalleymachineshop
      @swanvalleymachineshop  Před rokem +1

      I wanted to use needle rollers but there was not enough room . The chain lube is a good idea , might steal that one ! 👍

    The one concern I have is that the thinner wall of the bored sleeve will crush noticeably when pressed in. I think I would've done the bore after pressing the bushing into the spline.
