    So where the story is concerned, you gotta realize more is happening in the story than what the theatrical release shows, most Avatar fans consider the extended cut to be the actual cannon. The humans can't go anywhere else for Unobtainium (fun fact that's an engineering term, for something hard to get, gee wiz) because it's incredibly rare and it's needed for the equipment on Earth that keeps the planets atmospheric processors running. They have no real choice but to mine it. If the RDA don't keep up the resource harvesting Earth and everybody on it will die because the planet is basically on life support. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and if you wanna maybe get the full story I *HIGHLY* reccommend the extended cut.

    Love to find reactions to this movie by smaller channels! Your sense of humor was very relatable.
    The main reason why the sequel came out 13 years later is because Cameron wanted to wait for the technology to catch up. Now they've been filming several films back-to-back so the kid actors don't age out. He has had ideas for Pandora for a long time! I love that Avatar is a passion project for him.

    To be fair they didn’t forget that they destroyed the tree, they just hit it before the mining team got there so we didn’t see them start the excavation. Then they saw the number of Na’vi gathering and sent their forces there as a preemptive strike that would basically destroy the Na’vi and not have to worry about them interfering anymore.

    The extended cut has scenes of an overcrowded Earth at the beginning.
    There's an inevitable backlash when a film is this successful. Some people like to think they're too cool to like a film that's enjoyed by the masses.
    I LMAO at the person who LMAO'd at "unobtanium". It's actually a real scientific/engineering term for a substance that is hypothetical, rare, and/or hard to obtain. When they were building the SR-71 Blackbird jet, they needed titanium. They referred to titanium as unobtanium because Russia had control of most of the titanium deposits.

    • @zeno4538
      @zeno4538 Před 5 měsíci +5

      It's always been very cool to hate avatar. The vague bones of avatar is a familiar story but it's told in an undeniably unique way. The heros journey archetype is an example of a familiar story, but a movie shouldn't lose points for using it. Most people care more about characters, and the tension that comes from routing for them against odds. Do the characters feel like real people that grow and have an "arch" do we route for them or do we hate and fear them. People who hyperfixate on originality just want to hate this movie and can't find another reason. The same people will say the batman movies are the greatest movies ever despite those movies not being very original.

    • @richardb6260
      @richardb6260 Před 5 měsíci +4

      @@zeno4538 also, to hold Dances With Wolves up as being original is ignorant. Plenty of films that came before had the same type of story about a "civilized" man find a place among a more primitive people. Lawrence of Arabia, The Man Who Would be King, the A Man Called Horse films, and and Farewell to the King to name a few. Also, critics ignore that Cameron himself has stated that the film was inspired by the film At Play in the Fields of the Lord which was based on a book from the 60s. There are far more parallels between that film and Avatar than there is with DWW. Credit to Cameron for acknowledging that.

    james cameron originally had the initial ideas for avatar in the 80’s, but didn’t actually make and release the film until much later. the reason the second film didn’t come out until over a decade later is because a lot of the film takes place under water and james cameron had to invent the technology in order to record and capture the film.

  • @luissimoes2645
    @luissimoes2645 Před 6 měsíci +8

    People give James Cameron and Avatar in general a hard time when it comes to storytelling and plot. I completely disagree. Avatar's plot in my opinion is very well written. It manages to balance worldbuilding and current action very well while still managing to give us lot of information on this planet and the Na'Vi that have been here for a long time and have a deep history. Plus, I really like the characters in this one. Jake is one of those marines with a closed mind and currently waiting for his death without caring what happens to him (you can see more of that in the extended edition in the earth scene) until he finds a new porpouse in life and proves himself and to others that he is much smartert than they think. Grace, a scientist who loves her work and the planet that she is studying and the new people she meets and we learn that she is a colder person to Jake beacuse she sees in him the smae type of persons who neglect her work and beacuse they are the reason that the Na'Vi hate them (specially beacuse of thhe massacre that happened in the Na'Vi school and where Neytiri's sister died). Norm, a graduated scientist eager and honored to be working on a project like this just to be overshadowed by a guy who neither cares nor knows much about it and who slowly gets to know his companion a little better until he comes around and likes him. Trudy, a brave and great pilot with a good heart who tries to fight for the right reasons but still keeps the team with realistic expectations. Parker, who, dispite being painted as a douch through the whole movie, in the end seems to have a good heart and did not want any of hat destruction to happen and who seems to be in a lot of pressure probably because earth is dying without the Unobtanium along with millions of people and probably including his family.
    When criticising the movie, a lot of people resort to fallacies to diminish what was created and the explanations that were provided. A good example of this is that people seem to ignore the in-story real and canonic deiety, Eywa, or when they introduce creatures like the one on the second movie wich are intelligent creatures with more brain power than the humans or the Na'Vi and just because of their phisical aspect are currently refered as "smart whales" to make the movie and it's explanatios dull.
    I think this franchise suffers a lot of criticism because of it's success in the box office. If it didn't make so much money and was just a bit lower profile franchise people would praise it more.
    Is it the best franchise ever? No. Did other franchises deserve to do more money than this one? Yes. Does it deserve the hate it ets just because of it's success? I don't think so.

    Beautiful images and universe with heartfelt performances from the Na'vi actors (especially Saldana!), hampered by pandering (Pand(ora/ering)) to the "obtuse capitalism" and "hyper violent military" tropes. Not a surprise from Cameron's vocabulary (Aliens, Terminator#, Abyss, and and and).
    The morphology of the xeno'fauna is, at times, a stretch to logically justify (hampered by earth based perspective) though a delight to see their animations. But acceptable as Lucas made it legal with the star wars universe.
    I remember rolling my eyes extra hard when they broke out "unobtain'ium" (at the time, cyclists referred to Titanium bike frames and components as "unobtainium").
    Anyway, it's a visually amazing and awesome world, with a very VERY cool mechanism of practical spiritual interconnectivity. Hobbled by the human elements that had to be shoehorned in.

    With all the low ratings, it's important to recognise that it's "cool" in certain circles to say you don't like whatever thing is most popular. I'm sure you've seen this before in other ways. I'm different than you = I'm better than you (despite the fact that no one actually cares). Everyone like this thing so I hate it. That makes me special.
    Star Wars, Star Trek, Twilight, Harry Potter, MCU, Avatar. Every big fandom has this undercurrent of people who obsess over their alleged hatred and have to watch every new thing as soon as it comes out just so they can tell you how stupid you are for enjoying it. That's all this is.
    Forget the box office. Avatar made about $450 million is domestic (US & Canada) DVD and Blu-Ray sales. Think about that... Something like 150 million copies of the physical media sold. So what if a few dozen malcontents on Letterbox want to be internet famous by saying they don't like it.
    Note, I'm not saying the film doesn't have flaws or that they couldn't have put more thought into the script, just that you can't assume that negative reviews of a popular property were written with honest intentions.

    Avatar is the most hated franchise to film nerds Star Wars and super hero fans. They absolutely hate Avatar with a passion. They don’t like that Avatar sits at the top of the all time records. That’s why you see all those bad stars, don’t even listen to them they are a minority because James Cameron has stated many times that although his film is sci fi and fantasy he don’t make them for the sci fi and fantasy crowds or even film crowd he makes his films for the average man and woman who only go to the theaters once or twice a year with family. That’s why 3 of the top 5 highest grossing films of all time is made by him. The simple and predictable plot is all intentional and purposeful. There’s no film making not even 500M by great visual and no plot. There’s has to be a balance and Avatar has just that, I watched this film predicting it but I was still emotionally involved because of the execution. Avatar2 was just as good, especially for families specifically fathers.
