Normally I don't watch Supernatural reactions. I liked the show, but I don't rewatch it like I do other shows. This episode however, I will rewatch with you!

If you watch the sequel with Ewan McGregor playing an older Danny, it fills in a lot of questions pertaining to this movie and makes you appreciate the original even more so imho.

Japanese horror classic "Cure" is my first foreign horror film. I loved it. It's on Criterion Collection streaming. Humans kill people while doing normal everyday things and don't know why they did it, but they are aware and admit when caught. Watch as the mystery unfolds.

You'll love "A Tale of Two Sisters"!!! (Original Korean Version) I randomly watched it just based on the thumbnail (google it) and was intrigued and then amazed after watching it.

Elevated Horror before it was a recognized subgenre. Pioneer? Can't overlook "Begotten". It came before and no mainstream audience will understand it

This is Shelley Duvall movie for me.

I like to think Nicholson got casted for Joker because of "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" (Also starring the Penguin Danny Devito, Doc from Back to the Future, The actor who's the voice of Chucky, the villain from "Hills have Eyes, all stuck in a mental ward in the 60's.

Also the "Can I go to my room and get my fire engine" scene, look at the tv and ask yourself where is the AC cord? It's not plugged in. There is no cord. The TV isn't really on. It's in Wendy's head. Plus kids love stimulation. If the TV was on Danny would watch it and likely not be asking to leave to get his fire engine truck.

After watching it, your editing is kind of like a second watch. Did you notice the books in background? The bear on Danny's shirt? Then the bear giving head? There's so many hidden genius clues to what's going on. Did you notice when Wendy talks to Jack at the hotel and he yells at her that his hair is back to normal after yelling at her after he messed it up while yelling? His hair is normal and he's looking at her like she's crazy because that whole conversation happened in her head. In reality, he's writing, and she walks up and just stands there while he says nothing and never messes up his hair. The conversation never happened. During that same scene look at the chairs in the background. Sometimes they are missing. They are not a continuity issue. They are clues as to when the movie is real and when it's in Wendy's head.

There is a sequel to the shining called Doctor Sleep. It stars Ewen McGregor as a grown up Danny. You should watch it. There is also an excellent documentary called Room 237 that explores all the theories people have about the true meaning of the Shining.

Not my fav Kubrick but its a cult classic indeed. Now you have to watch Doctor Sleep. The great sequel from 2019.

Krayt dragons have been referenced in Star Wars dating all the way back to A New Hope. C-3PO passes by the skeletal remains of a Krayt dragon when he's wandering alone in the desert (though the one we see in this episode is much, much bigger) and Obi-Wan mimicked Krayt dragon calls to scare away the Tuskens when Luke first meets him.

You should react to "Doctor Sleep". It's the sequel to The Shining and it's a great movie on it's own.

Yeah, Hallorann dying was one of the reasons King famously didn't like this adaptation (to me it's just kinda dumb because there's so much build-up to him getting to the hotel and he then barely gets through the door before being killed - his sole meaningful contribution is basically "a vehicle") and in the later (IMO not good) TV adaptation, where King had more control, he also survives. Fun fact: Kubrick, renowned for multiple takes, made Scatman Crothers redo the scene where Hallorann explains the Shining to Danny nearly _150 times_ !? When he got to the end he apparently burst into tears and personally I think it's great testament to his character that he didn't turn around and punch Stanley Kubrick in the face just as hard as he could then walk off the production.

Terrific reaction, totally subscribing! Hit the classics any time you want! Scary stuff? I'd LOVE for you to see "Carrie" (1976), "Rosemary's Baby" (1968). "An American Werewolf In London", the 1978 version of "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers", "Poltergeist" (1982) and "Creepshow" (1982) are also ones I think you'd have a great time with! "Carrie" and "Rosemary's Baby" have some incredible performances from actresses that were actually nominated for Oscars, which doesn't usually happen with horror movies! You'd have MUCH to say about "Rosemary's Baby"!

There is a brand new book about the Making of the Shining which is incredible. The author has some great slideshow presentations/Q&As you can look up. Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd are interviewed at length. All of the "Shelley Duvall being scarred for life" is total garbage. It's true that she had a difficult shoot, but so did everybody. That's what working on a Kubrick movie is like. Ken Adam had a heart attack on Barry Lyndon; Malcom McDowell scratched his cornea and broke his ribs during A Clockwork Orange. Shelley is VERY proud of her work, and immediately became a very successful producer after "The Shining"! Her mental problems had nothing to do with The Shining and came years and years and years later. The thing she says that "trauamatized" her the most was people ridiculing her performance for DECADES. It's great everyone likes Shelley Duvall's performance now, but it was ripped apart and mocked for years. (Jack Nicholson's wasn't well-receieved at first, either). The reason she was able to become a producer - and a successful one - was from working on The Shining. She most definitely does not regret being in it. She worked with Altman, Woody Allen, Kubrick and then became a successful producer and host of "Fairy Tale Theatre", which was beloved. (She also played Olive Oyl in "Popeye" directly after "The Shining", a perfect bit of casting and she got reviews for it) Her greatest performance is Robert Altman's "3 Women", co-starring Sissy Spacek.....who had just played "Carrie"! :D She won Best Actress at Cannes in '77, and well-deserved.

Ngl i always laugh when everyone jumps at Wednesday 🤣 and the fact someone was paid to type out all them pages ha ha such a classic for so many reasons . Stil prefer the book but even the wide lense shots n music was good casting was crazy. Feel really bad for how Shelly was treated in order to get this amazing preformance bless her what a G. I could watch people reacting to the guy in the dog costume going down on the guy in the bed every day 😂 it’s just such a random scene that shocks and confuses everyone. It was explained in the book but not in the movie.

If you want to watch another scary Jack Nicholson movie one of his best is the 1975 _One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest_ . It won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Director, and Screenplay.

So many odd things in this movie including a child in an adult body having relations with an adult and Matt apparently being a wizard. I think Matt and Jenna were both kind of awful people who probably ruined Wendy's life.

I watched this movie in theaters when it came out. It grossed me out so much haha but it has such a style and audacity to it that not only do I think it’s entertaining as hell but I think it’s also very underrated.

Lots of controversy about this one because of the director being very cruel to the cast and crew. I still think the book is much better. Great reaction. You have to watch The Exorcist for Halloween if you haven't already.

Oddly enough, Jack Nicholson never appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, or any other late-night talk show for that matter. He rarely did television interviews at all. The last sit-down talk show he did was an episode of "The Mike Douglas Show" in 1976. This is from Jack's IMDb "Self" page. If anyone knows of any other sit-down, mainstream, terrestrial TV interviews let IMDb know.

So besides psychic occurrences and ghost sightings, the only supernatural intervention with physical reality was the unlocking of the freezer. Oh, and the lady attacking the boy. Great, intelligent reaction!

The only thing I don’t like about the movie, compared to the novel, is the lack of a build to Jack’s madness/possession. In most of the book, he’s fairly normal, we learn about his struggles with alcohol, how it wrecked him to accidentally hurt Danny. He’s a very sympathetic character. The movie makes him seem crazy and other from the start.

If want just more of this juicy story watch Dr. Sleep made much more recently. Its about the second book.

I think Jack's worknotworking is a critique of masculine privilege and the way that men's work is "important" while women's work is diminished. This is particularly ironic given the wat Kubrick treated Duvall, and I remain uncertain as to whether Kubrick was an a-hole on purpose as part of some meta-thesis.
