- In my previous video where I talked about why I moved to Czech Republic, I found in the comment section there was a general narrative amongst the "not so positive" comments. so lets talk about these points, shall we :) Was moving to Czech Republic from Canada such a bad idea?

Don't for get to like and subscribe guys! Another short video in regards to moving to Czech Republic from Canada as I saw many people still had some doubts. Looking forward to your opinions and wish you guys a nice day!
Czech Republic has the least difference between rich and poor in the EU (3,4x, average is 5x) and the least amount of people in danger of poverty (12%, EU average 22%). You mentioned low unemployment (best along with Germany) and the growth is also one of the highest in EU. Czech Republic is also 6th worldwide in Global Peace Index.
That said, a big no no is median income, less than 50% of EU average. You are correct the expenses are lower, and there's free healthcare, relatively cheap food etc. but when traveling, you kinda feel poor and similar class person from the West will be able to book a level or two better hotel.
You gotta understand that Prague was de facto capital of Holy Roman Empire in 14th century, Czechia was industrial powerhouse of Austrio-Hungarian monarchy hundred years ago, in 1934 Czechoslovakia was world no.2 in export behind USA and firmly top 10 worldwide. We had 7 big car manufacturers, Baťa shoes, Hollywood-like divas etc.
So today, when Czech Republic is about 25th worldwide in economic parameters, we are not satisfied, although there is a lot to love:-) We want back to top 10!
You are speaking big facts man! I gotta say when travelling I definitely feel you on this one, much love!
Good points overall. A tiny correction: the healthcare is not free - most people are obliged to pay health insurance.
Feeling poor outside of the country may be highly subjective. I have not felt poor since about mid-2000s, however I worked for pretty ordinary (Prague) salary then. While my first-time vacationing in the same hotel as Germans and Italians, I didn’t go ask them what careers they were in to compare… No need to obsess about it all that much - life’s good here.
I remember what it _really_ meant to travel poor - in late eighties and early nineties…
GPI dropped to 7th place. Probably because CZ manufactured more guns for export than last year. Switzerland is 12th , Germany 16th ,Britain 57th...
Marek Janouš Prague is in top 15 richest EU cities.
Greeks had 4x higher pensions. After massive cheating and debt, they were forced to cut it to horrible 2x Czech pension. For a cheating mess of a country of frappé drinking taxi drivers slash primary school teachers, they still somehow beat us with our protestant work ethic:-)
Starting German doctors have 5x the salary and less working hours.
Even the proposed universal EU pocket money for illegal immigrants was about 150% of median Czech pension. Surely it’s fair to talk about this when EU talks big about “solidarity”...
do you have some link on the claim that "Czechoslovakia was world no.2 in export behind USA"?
love the occasional czech phrases, makes the video feel rly alive, keep it coming 👍👍👍

"I generally face way more racism in Canada than here". This should be on posters..... just not in Canada.
The worst kind of racism I have seen was in the UK from black people towards Asians (the white Asians).. The real life is sometimes very different than what media and politics allow us to see
Loved how they (Canada) canceled visa duty for czech republic but not long afterwards they again renew it as many gypsies from czech republic came there for social benefits. Calling us racist muhaha. I say we czech are biggest racist and Iam proud on that fact spread it all around world if it means that all gypsies move away!!!
Im a proud czech and I respect your decision sir!
Diky moc!
I love that touched on czech people having really dark sense of humour and being sarcastic....yeah true and true :-) Loving it
Edita Schlingerová I vibe with it hard 😎
I live in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, it's located on the east of Moravian region. Yes, we are racist, but we just usually joke about it and never mean it seriously. Enjoy your lifetime in Czech republic and try find a pub with a draft beer called Radegast. It's the best beer in our country IMHO.
SUBSCRIBE TO PEWDIEPIE true a little bit of humour I always tackle back with a bit of my own 😎 My favourite brewery in czech is Cerna Hora 🤙🏼
Radegast není nejlepší. 😂
Take the radegast back 😂 I am from Pilsen so I know what I am talking about when it comes to beer 😂😂 Pilsner Urquell is the way of drinking beer 😂😂 amd gambrinus 10 is good, if well served, but gambrinus 11 is the middle 😂good beer and good price 😂😂 just what student needs 😂😂

If you're using "Everybody" in the intro - which is in plural - you should say "Jak se máTE, everybody" . Cause "jak se máš" is for singular.

Rendy [GD] I gotta keep on going 🤘 thanks bro for the kind words!
To be honest, a lot of people (now I mean mostly Czech people) I encounter who complain about Czech Republic being a horrible place have never really left the country (and I don't mean for a week-long vacation :D) and experienced life elsewhere. Yes, the country has its problems and stuff it needs to work on, but overall, I'm really glad I was born here. And I'm saying this as someone who loves travelling, as someone who has lived outside of the country as well (and I'm still leaving that option open). When I meet my exchange student friends at university, they often offer me a different perspective I wouldn't have even thought about.
People don't always realize the benefits of living in a country with free education, free healthcare (yes, you end up paying something in taxes and insurance, but that's the case with every free healthcare system anywhere.) I myself got a surgery that normally costs over a quarter of million crowns , the insurance covered it with no problem. (and the surgery is often not even covered by insurance in countries with "free" healthcare, as it's sometimes seen as an elective surgery.) As a child I grew up having multiple hobbies (music, dance, sport) because it's really quite affordable. When I wanted to play the flute, a quite expensive instrument, the music school lent it to students for not even 50 Euros a year. This seems like little things, but it makes life enjoyable. In different countries playing a classical instrument is sometimes seen as a bit "posh", for lack of a better word, here, almost all of my friends play at least one, and it's seen as normal. And the "nice list" is longer (including public transport - sorry, I know your hatred for buses, but still :D)
To be honest, to be truly Czech, I do feel a bit guilty bragging about the country, it's not usually something Czech people are overly comfortable with doing, but for once...
I also have one question, it would be cool if you somehow elaborated on one of the points in your video, I'm really curious. :D You said that the Czech Republic is one of the most liberal countries, but of course, as everybody knows, it's definitely not a "politically correct" country and a lot of people are quite proud of the fact that it's not. I'm really interested how these two go together and would love to hear your perspective. :)
Anyway, to conclude this enormous comment, I enjoy your videos, you're cool, man. :D
1) It is a common Czech attitude "I'm Czech and I hate CZ". It is like "I'm German and I'm organised" or "I'm Polish and I'm a nationalist". To the economy - Yes, the GDP is still lower than in the west, but the unemployment rate is below 2.5% and the economy is growing extremely fast. The wages in the low income sector doubled in many places in the last 3 years and pretty much nobody works for the minimum wage any more. I worked in the west and moved back to CZ for job opportunity. Also, the home ownership rate is high and health and social services improved greatly. What you say was true 5 years ago. It changed a lot since.
Yes, we like dark humor. It is part of genetics.
2) I lived in the USA, but I have never seen Canada. It seems OK, but many Czechs who moved there in the last century still come back. At least for visits.
3) Racism - Czech people are opened about it. Almost nobody has problem with Vietnamese (or any other asians), the most famous news anchor in the country for the last 20 years is black... Czechs will tell you they hate gypsies (which is meant as a lifestyle, not as ethnicity, there are "white gypsies") but they really don't mind. The most pressing issue is Czechs don't want immigration from Africa and the middle-east. We accepted some Syrians, invested huge sums into their newly build housing etc..., most of them left for Germany basically overnight. CZ is not accepting illegal migrants. If people go through the legal process, Czechs are mostly OK with them no matter the skin colour.
4) Yup. Although show me one which is not horrible. Our government is bad and corrupt, we know it and take elections not as a way of choosing a saviour, but as a damage control. 2.5% unemployment, 6th (7th) most peaceful country in the world (UN Global peace index), one of the lowest crime rates, a lot of freedom of speech, right to carry, total lack of no-go zones... It works.
Being liberal - It is classic liberalism, not US progressivism (I just wanted to point that out). Not good, but Yes, you can hire a prostitute to accompany you to a shooting range, have a joint afterwards and when you pay her, she is taxed at a 15% flat tax rate.
A little correction on carrying guns...
You can carry but you can't even point it on agressor to defend yourself or your home
If you shoot him you go to jail he will be free
Even if you have licence to carry a gun for defensive purposes you can't even defend yourself with it in any way...
Not true, use of deadly force against an aggressor was a problem some 20 years ago, now the courts mostly go in favour of the one protecting himself/herself. Look at tha cases from the last years. Yes, the police will bother you, it will be a lot of paperwork and some judges might want to put some blame on you, but in pretty much all cases it ends up as "nutna obrana" and "krajni nouze", meaning you had to defend yourself and it was legal either in the lower or middle court level.
I even know a man who had to shoot a robber (at his place of work in a gas station), no warning shot, the authorities agreed (after investigating) - self defence.
You can look at some info at gunlex.cz/en/about-us
@@petrmaly9087 Hmm in that case it depends on the responding officers and court so i would still be worried
I still think that gun laws in the US are better in regard of self defence
I mean look at southern US states where crimes involving guns are the lowest in the US since most law abiding citizens have guns
Plus i think that Czech citizens should have either faster responding officers like in the USA (max 5 mins to respond since police are around almost every corner) or easier acces to guns to defend themselves untill police arrive
So true. I live in Canada and always stress the point that I am a classic (British) liberal NOT a progressive 'snowflake'. lol
Vagabund - USA gun laws are all over the place. Texas and NY are like Switzerland and Britain. Self defence - the laws are always open to interpretation and it depends on the police and the courts, but it really improved in CZ in the past decades. Yes, the police should be fast responding, but even in the USA, you don't get 5 minutes response time everywhere. It depends on the place. Both CZ and USA has villages without any police presence, both have cities with police response times for under 5 minutes.
I'm all for more guns and better access to them, although I'll be ok with the current Czech system staying the same (and implementing it in the constitution as well, so the EU can not force a change of it).
haha your awesome! i really like your videos!
Sophi Jung thanks for the love! 😎

@@cokeboypeking9597 Thank you! But we are worried about language a lot, I wanted to ask if there is many people who speak English or is it a struggle? (I'm sorry if you said it in any of your videos but we are still going through them)
Generally speaking in prague you can get away with just English for your day to day life. Most young people speaks English. What might be difficult is that when you are doing public registrations dealing with government employee/visas/foreign police that you will need a translator with you for sure. Other then that small things like setting up the internet/buy groceries/paying for monthly tram pass you will also probably run into older generation people who’s not willing to use English, but these occurrence you can get by somehow 🤙🏼 hope this helps. There are a lot of foreigners in the city so you definitely won’t be the only one with these issues at least 😎

Hey! I agree with everything said in that video. Some Young people see the Western Europe and North America as a holy grail while not realising how good life they're living in here. They just look at the gross income and finding it higher they start to curse. But You have to see the overall quality of life: free healthcare, free education, feeling safe, etc. And right as You mentioned, the economic has never been better in here.

I was in Canada for two months few years ago, specifically in Toronto and Sudbury, visiting my uncle. I really liked it there, but to be honest I wouldn't want to live in such a big city as Toronto. Too many people, too noisy for me.. But Sudbury was okay for me, well without car u r definitely lost in Canada, but I'm really nature lover and that lakes, forests, animals (feeding chipmunks in the garden was amazing :D) etc. it very enthralled me that I wanna go back some day, because Canada has become my favourite country since then. Anyway I can understand why you moved here, think that Canada is not for everyone, especially for young people who wanna have fun. Czech people are racists, but mostly for gypsies and Arabs (at least from my experience) so you can be okay with this. :D Hope your enthusiasm won't leave you in a short time, enjoy the time you'll spend here and thank you for your interesting videos! Have a nice day.
Im a portuguese student who is studying for some months in the czech republic.
