Seriously, try hard to learn Czech. If there is a one thing that everyone appreciates here, then it is hearing Czech from foreigners. It might never be perfect, however, we don't care if you mispronounce, we just admire the hard work behind it.

At least you could probably do some advanced english courses.. Our college business english teacher was swedish and he also didn't speak much czech.. At that level the students are expected to be almost fluent anyways so czech is not really a requirement...

@@elenatereskova3931 The unicorn that is "central europe" is something a lot of us have been taught at school(not as a fact, but as a generally accepted opinion).. And to be perfectly honest, we're like 50perc. in the west and 50perc. in the east... It could be either way... + these days with the refugee crisis and all that, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who wants to be close to Merkeland :D Politically, we're trying to climb up evereyones assholes and culturally, we've been occupied by the west and the east so there are traces of both...

a)
Vienna is Western Europe, and yet it is on the East from Prague and on average more "Eastern" than the Czech Republic.
b) Historically, Czech Republic was firmly part of the Western influence, for hundreds, you could say thousands of years. Only between 1948 and 1989 it was otherwise and not voluntarily, so many people still preserved the Western mindset. 40 years can do a lot of financial, moral damage but cannot erase thousands of years of common history and mindset with the West. We are 300 km from Berlin and 2000 km from Moscow, Vienna was our capital for a loong time, villages in Northern Italy, their train stations and squares look similar to Czech villages because we were one country etc.

Im happy you are 70% happy in Czech Republic. And i understand you. Im from Czech Republic and i hate some of these things too. You dont have to speak fully Czech. Only thing you do is dont go to the small shops and go the shopping centre where are some of people who speak english because there is a small group of peoples who cant speak english.I liked this video because i like people who try something new and its so hard. Patrice, I agree with you. I'm Czech, my partner is Slovak and a year ago we moved with kids to Spain. Working in Gibraltar and our co-workers are joking that everything east from Germany is just Russia. 😂

Natalia nat beer is definitely a gift in the country 😝 just got to be careful not to over do it since it’s so underpriced. I have been to Brno a few times now and like it very much. It’s got a small city vibe with a nice DT. I love it where you can walk to a lot of places, enjoy your time there!

She is so different from Chinese that come just to earn a PhD degree at our institute. Sorry for the stereotypes, but according to my (limited) observations, native Chinese tend to cluster together avoiding non-Chinese as much as possible, they are not interested in the local German culture, they do not go out and they do not drink alcohol. Complete opposite of my friend and you if I may judge. Anyway, I wonder if you already begin to feel a bit Czech. You definitely have potential to become a Czech. ;-)
Haha yes @Ritchie this one is similar to "fresh" Chinese immigrants in Canada as well. Overall the Chinese culture is so different usually will take a generation to fully assimilate if you will. Btw a lot of Chinese people are allergic to alcohol, perhaps I can demonstrate in a video :D And yes, by the amount of beer I can drink now, I do consider myself more Czech than ever. Cheers!

I do not believe that could be you. :-D I still recall a rapid and strong reaction of our Taiwanese colleague to alcohol, which I did not expect at all.
Another tip for a video: What do you like and not-so-like about living in Canada? You can also include prospective impressions of a common Czech guy who moved there. I don't expect that everything that hold for Toronto have to be true for example in Montreal or Vancouver. Anyway, I would greatly appreciate as I would like to experience living in Canada since my childhood. Enjoy your time in Canada now!

Chinese don't drink alcohol?!? You should see my Chinese father in law and his relatives. I come from Eastern Slovakia where people dronk a lot but I have never seen anyone drinking that much without even getting really drunk.

I like you being honest. For me, cheap beer is also a big argument. But the most important for me is the level of freedom. Not the law, but the real thing.
Exactly. One thing we still have in Visegrad group countries. And during socialism we looked to west for idea of freedom. Well, not so anymore. Regulations, political correctness, gun control etc. Well, except for taxes. That is the worst thing in Europe and we have it the same.
Thanks for your kind words! Tbh, I find in Prague you could do basically whatever you want to do. You can be whichever type of person you want without too much scrutiny from the public(which is good). This is all from a foreigner though, not sure if it is the case when you are Czech. :-)
I guess origin doesn't make a difference here. My brother had been wearing dreads for years and my catholic grandmother never told him anything unpleasant about it. A friend of mine has green hair and there's a shemale in my favourite society. I don't think I ever hear anything intolerant against gay people either. For me, it seems a bit incomprehensible, but why on Earth should I discourage anybody from doing whatever he wants to do with his body. It's like people don't mind about any abnormality..they don't have to mate with you if they can't stand something on you.

COKEBOYPEKING Loads of people here listen to American rap. Of course it’s mainly the younger generations and millenials, but they do. Unfortunately it’s mainly artists like Drake (I know you’re Canadian, so you probably like him, but he is more pop than rap), Lil Pump and so on. There aren’t many old heads or people that would appreciate Nas, Biggie, Jay Z and hell not even Kanye.

Our radio stations playing mainly that terrible modern hipster or alternative shit music or our fake rock bands which we calling agrometal :-D or old songs which were maybe good, but not if you hear it 20 years every day :-D this is strange because our countrie has one of the best publicum on metal concerts and it's sold out almost everytime.

The hip hop I usually here are Czech hip hop artist. Nothing wrong with it, just I was referring to American hip hop to be played in social places :)

The Czech language is honestly fucking difficult.. the problem is that even if you were born here you still have problems to remember some of the stupid rules it has .. and I can’t imagine what it must be for a guy from different country..

Exactly the same reason as my dad and kids, we all went there because of a girl (My mom) it was actually for us to learn Czech becuz in New Zealand we wern't learning the language so it made my mom mad so we went their on holiday for 8 months which then went to 2years and now my whole life up to this point we left when I was 9 and now I'm 15 oh and ps at the moment I'm writing this I'm in New Zealand for the same reason FAM.
