Being a foreigner isn't easy. After living in Prague, Czech Republic for +4 years, there are still super Czech things that I cannot seem to wrap around my head. For example, making eye contact in a restaurant to order food. Here is a list of 9 things that I still find funny about this country.

I find that Czech people do get offended when you tell them the truth, especially when it comes from a foreigner such as myself. Czech people can complain about the very same things, but that's OK.
Sadly, Czech people have limited qualities. They are quite peaceful, but sometimes that is out of fear. They can appear nice to your face, but the reality of how they are is very different. Foreigners need to be very careful, they can easily get tricked. Czech people see cheating foreigners as OK, it's a deeply corrupt country that shouldn't even be in the EU. I wonder if that comes from the Communist mentality of envy and bitterness towards those in the West? I think 'some' younger Czech people don't even see this, as some have seemed shocked by my awful experiences and can't believe it. As a foreigner, you may only experience how bad it is when you buy a property or do business. They gang up and will happily try to cheat you, money means everything to them. They have no morals, telling the truth and doing the right thing is alien to them. There's no sense of fair play.
I would also warn foreign guys about some of the women. Czech people worship money and will do anything to get it, especially if the person with money is foreign. Most of my foreign friends are being screwed over by their wives or girlfriends. A couple of them don't want to see it so stick around for more punishment. I know of one who had to leave because he lost all his money to a gold digger. If you think you got lucky with a beautiful woman, then maybe it's too good to be true. Far too many guys think their girl is different or that they are too smart to get fooled, but it happens such a lot. This is not cynicism, just a dose of truth.

The thing with the bus, there are stops that are called ''zastávka na znamení'' wich means something like ''a stop with a sign'' and you have to press a button like a minute or two before the stop so the bus driver stops and often the bus driver wants to save time so if he doesn't see people in the mirror that are standing in front of the door ready to get out off the bus, he doesn't stop even on the stops that he has to stop on

Third, the discovery didn't take place in the Czech Republic for two reasons. When meth was discovered, this country was part of Austria (in simple terms), as it was in the 19th century. Meth was discovered in Japan and widely used in World War II to stimulate troops in action…

Hey dude. I am glad you like my country after all the drawbacks your mentioned. :-D
Regarding your point about morous CZECHS. :-) It is generally true. I wish people here would be more positive and happier. However, life has often bitter taste, and nature here is that people are rather grumpy and likely express their emotions (sometimes truthfully or exaggerate), than being shady, dishonest or just pretending friendliness...Honestly, I don't feel comfortable with that in some countries one have to be polite and flatter daily no matter what. Maybe because I am Czech, it is not my cup of tea when people hold back their feelings. I like to know what is running on somebody’s mind. Just be well balanced and take piece of both.
Secondly, drivers in the Czech Republic are not worse than others. :-) :-) Driving in entire Europe is generally ok, we have straight forward, rules and driving age from age of 18! Except traffic is terrible in rush hours sometimes, road are small, and parking lots too. :-) I have driving experience from many countries worldwide. Traffic in some other places is absolutely unconrolled and unsafe (middle east, asia) compare to the Czech. Also In some states in the USA, people don't know how to use car lights!!!, tailgating is also common there and almost every day somebody try to cut me of. Therefore, I don't think bad driving culture is an issue in the Czech Republic. :-)

True I got accustomed to the czech attitude now I also quite enjoy it now just culture difference. I don’t mind the ‘fake nice’ in North America culture since I’m also use to it as well, no one take it as fake just becomes culture if you know what mean. In driving yea, compare to Asia and Poland for sure czech area better 🤣🤣😂 but I just hate being tailgated in D1 🤣😎🤣

To number 3: Actually, it's kind of a way to let the driver know you are getting off on the next station. Sometimes, when there are few people in the bus, nobody is getting off and the driver sees there are no people waiting at the bus stop, he doesn't bother to stop there, so he saves time and he could drive past where you wanted to leave the bus. Happened to me a few times, as I live in more rural area. Also, once the bus driver stops, you have very few time to get off as he leaves the station, so yeah, nobody is going to wait for you to get up and leave if you are way too slow.

  • @clarawalfaire6695
    @clarawalfaire6695 Před 5 lety

    1. If you want to pay and you're in a rush, you can definitely stand up and ask on the bar politely that you want to pay. There's nothing wrong with it. Or wave at them (i don't usually go above my shoulder)
    2. I agree most of the drivers are super agressive and it makes me mad. When I drive I'm just like "chill dude".
    3. Oh lord the bus shuffle that happens too often with older people xD But on the other hand some bus stops are on sign so you have to get up earlier and let the driver know.
    4. Not everyone is super active. There are many people like you and I'm one of them :D I like youtube, drawing, streaming, music. Going out hiking is nice from time to time.
    5. And the service well you have to take it like we're completely different culture. I don't know how it is canada, but here usually the waiters and bartenders wants you to make yourself comfortable you know.. take off your jacket and stuff, you have time to pick what you want to eat and drink and then they'll come. I agree it could be better/quicker (especially in Prague), but as an introvert I'm actually glad that they give me time. And when you said that we have almost zero servis those restaurants/bars where you went are probably crap xD I haven't experienced bad service honestly.
    6. I think the drivers actually have system, where it shows if they are late to the next bus stop or not. Idk how it is in prague, but here where I live you can definitely see it.
    7. Czech language is so hard for foreigners. I'm not suprised that you have problem with it, but if you want to learn you can definitely ask your wife or there is actually one US youtuber, who wanted to learn czech and now he is pretty good in it. (took him a year and some months?) So he could give you tips ---- his name is TadyGavin. And btw you're in czech for 5 years you could have studied bit more :D (no pressure though, I like to stay in my comfort zone too hahah)
    8. What can I say :D Socks in sandals aaaah the older generation loves it, cus it's comfortable. But younger generation is making fun of it :D I don't know what kind of people you meet, but here you won't meet people accesorized with plastic bags. If they are carrying plastic bag it's because they bought something.
    9. Complaining is pretty common, but again it depends on the people, who you meet. I don't know anyone who would complain constantly tbh. And the mood hmm yeah we can probably look bit grumpy, but once you get to know us well, we're friends for life. (many people can be toxic tho so try to avoid those xD) Or maybe if they look super grumpy... they just show that they don't want to talk to you? At least they're not faking anything hahah.
And when you were talking about work, those people are rude, nothing else. Normal person would greet you even if they're in a bad mood.
We're not perfect and you will definitely have more things that you like and don't like. If you are not sure that the behavior is normal ask your wife or friends and then you'll know, how to deal with those situations.
Overall great video I agreed on few things with you. Prague can be bit extreme. It's different in other places. I know bunch of people, who don't like prague for those reasons. If you want to have better experience definitely ask locals, because many places want to just cash out tourists.

6:30 Imagine yourself going to like a 15hrs shift at 4 am and the outside temperature is around 6°C in Summer, what'd you do? Your closed-up shoes'd melt after 4 hrs when the ambient temperature rises to around 30°C, so the alternative is to wear sandals, BUT your toes'd fell off in the morning so you'll try to balance the temperature boom with socks ..
7:00 "loose construction pants" that's called: "work outfit on a lunch break" ... If you want to learn Czech, get in a time machine and travel back to Prague in 1990. I learnt Czech then because no one in Prague spoke English.
Alternatively, leave Prague and go to a small town. You'll have to learn Czech to survive because so few people speak English in small towns.
And just to make sure you learn it properly, get a fifty-year-old girlfriend (really, it's a good idea).

Service always depends on the place, if its an average/older place they are payed a shitty salary, of course they will be not nice..
In the city center its the second extreme, they want just to cash out tourists, and thats all, and the tourists will still go there again and again..
But if you go to a popular place for locals to eat, it will have probably better service - still there is a high demand and fluctuation, thats why you always can run into some idiots..
On the other hand a lot of people like to go to shitty pubs, with an arrogant owner, that will not ask you if you want another beer,
he will just give you one, and thats how we like it :D But the pipes have to be clean(ish) in such pubs.
