When you find your true self, it is the greatest gift you can give yourself. Almost every conversation I have on a daily basis is meaningful and appreciated at the deepest levels. You will discover unconditional love for others, even the ones you use to loath. You must want to take this journey at your absolute core! Only then, you will find out. It can not be explained, only experienced.

I can deeply relate to feeling lost halfway through life, and I'm only in my 30s. As cliche as it sounds we have to be the change we want to see. I'm about to take my children out of public school and just play Gabor Mate, Noam Chomsky, Angela Davis and Democracy Now podcasts lol. All jokes aside , I am so grateful for people like Gabor. We must cherish and lift people like this up for the masses to hear.

Yes our True nature is that of the 10 Qualities of Heaven. Greatest Love, forgiveness, compassion, light, Humility, harmony, gratitude, Flourishing, Service and Enlightenment!
We are souls therefore it is totally important that we choose Love, light and connection. We are One and without separation!!! Bravo Gabor !

I believe these are the higher functions at best. Let's not put ourselves above our primate cousins too far. For the evidence you might look online or to the closest war zone or where the "light" is not there, just like the human rights violations. Don't get too far off your rocker by projecting some of your good qualities onto all people. Wishful thinking is a problem dear, aim above it.

"what is considered normal in this culture isn't what would be normal for human beings" thank goodness someone people consider an authority on human behavior has said this. My family and I lived in and between far more countries and cultures than is the norm, though definitely not a total anomaly, and it has been so fricken difficult to communicate this to people. Even when people get it conceptually, two seconds later it's like they never heard of it. We are constantly becoming. So darn important. Thank you!

I love that he owns his own ability to be narcissistic as we all do but people with NPD can’t own it so it is kinda a good way of telling if someone is a true narcissist is if they acknowledge they ca be. Or ask themselves am I maybe the narcissist.

Thank you for your wisdom. I'm having a hard time reconciling community which I understood you to be saying is something valuable that has been lost in western civilization with the self centered mindset... as compared to attachment syndrome / unhealthy codependence... and on the other hand, authenticity which suggests each of us having a mind of our own which seems self interested. How do we be our authentic selves in the context of working towards being community minded? It seems like they are counter to each other. I'm sure compassion is a big part of it... but interested in insights that are not occurring to me.

I struggle with this too. Maybe being authentic is self-interest, but a necessary one to happiness. Making a shift towards having more people in our lives who accept us for who we really are, and letting go of those who don't. Is it possible to somewhat let go of those people but not entirely? I have some friendships that have changed recently, and I am trying to accept that it is ok, that I am changing, being more authentic ( I think, lol), so our dynamic and closeness is reflecting that.
I am trying to believe that any new people in my life will like me for myself, and I use boundaries ( eg. do I like the way they treat people in general, do they respect individuality) to decide whether I want to spend time with them, get closer to them.
It sounds simple, but doesn't mean it is easy.

    Oh my God.
I'm not an expert. Quite contrary.
But at 46:07 that man instantly got so uncomfortable answering about his state when he didn't feel authentic, the situations when he had to become a people pleaser etc.
Even I, a layman, noticed his body language and I'm quite sure that man had some trauma in the past.
If only I could define my triggers, if only I could consciously or subconsciously find a way out.
It's been taking too long. Too long.
