My sister went to play with a neighbour friend and when Mum and I went to collect her, there was a gold Warsteiner nose cone in the back garden that the tortoise lived in. My sister’s BFF is Dave Wass’ daughter. I grew up in Bletchley where the Arrows was built back in the late 70s and 80s. There was a non championship race at Brands Hatch that Alan Jones led for a while

I don't know where it sits in the pantheon of F1 liveries but the first model car kit I ever got was the Footwork FA14 ('93 season) and I've always thought it was a good, simple and clean design (but maybe that's the nostalgia talking).

I only have one race that featured the Footwork team which was the amazing Monaco GP of 1996. Footwork lasted 2 laps or something. Jos Verstappen crashed at the first corner and Ricardo Rosset crashed at La Rascasse on Lap 2. They also left Monaco with no front or rear wings.
Jos Verstappen was saved at Spa by the higher cockpit sides that had been introduced as a safety feature. One team principal actually complained to Sid Watkins he had cost him an extra $100,000 because of this, and F1's doctor simply told him to take it off the salary of the driver!

The whole business with Caffi after he had a crash was something else. Caffi had another accident after the Monaco GP which Jackie Oliver blasted as unprofessional behaviour and they get Johansson in. When Caffi comes back, Oliver effectively tells him to bugger off because they wanted Johansson instead. Caffi takes a court order against the team which when Caffi's lawyer brings this to the attention of Jackie Oliver, JO promptly slaps the lawyer in the face. To be a fly on the wall there!

As it relates to Christian Fittipladi, after the 1994 season, he would go to CART to drive for Walker Racing (where he finished 2nd in the 1995 Indy 500) & then Newman-Haas where he won 2 races during a 7 year stint. Fittipladi likely would have won a few more if he didn't break his leg in 1997. In 2002 he went to NASCAR & was a back marker driving for Petty Enterprises in both the #44 & the iconic #43. It did not help one bit that Petty was easily the most underfunded team in the Dodge portfolio at the time even though they had NASCAR legend Richard Petty (a 7 time NASCAR champion) as an owner.

When they were being supplied by Asiatech engines my ex gf helped develop one of the oils they used. In return Asiatech sent the company she worked for a box full of goodies, and I still have an Asiatech mouse mat today. She was never really into F1 before that, as she'd just leave me to it whilst I watched the race, but she always followed the Arrows team from then on, especially as she loved the look of the car with the Orange sponsorship. She was gutted when they ended up going bust.
You missed a sub story about Tom Wilkinshaw trying to get Renault engines for 97, but being blocked by Williams because they didn't want their ex driver having a chance of beating their current drivers in a car using the same engines. It was also rumoured that it was someone from Arrows who leaked the news that Renault would be pulling out of the sport at the end of 97, as someone from Renault told them that that was one of the reasons why they wouldn't supply them, but told them it was off the record. It wasn't long after that, however, that the rumours started to leak out Renault were leaving, so it was suspected that someone from Arrows tipped off the press as a bit of payback.

  • @JSmith19858

Letting them run what they want was pretty much the rule book to Group C, and that worked until Bernie sank it. A loose set of rules with some limits on aero, crash worthyness tests, and a set quantity of fuel. F1 just needs to keep the fuel capacity and flow limts, and they can free up engine configurations.
