WAS IT MONACO OR NOT? Opinions on Esteban Ocon Leaving Alpine
They said that it had nothing to do with Monaco but the timing seems a bit convenient, at least, it would to some...
Esteban Ocon will be leaving Alpine at the end of the season, and while Alpine seems happy to re-negotiate a contract with Gasly, could both the French drivers be leaving the French team?
It's an interesting conversation. Usually this sort of thing doesn't take place until later in the season, so for silly season to be all year this year, as we saw with Newey and Hamilton already, what will it mean for a team that's in a perpetual management crisis?

On any other track, Mansell would have won even with the iffy tyre stuff. Thing about Ocon is, and always has been, for all the times he wasn't at fault in the incident, it often feels like you have to pull back 5 seconds and ask "Why were you in that situation in the first place?". He just has this uncanny ability to lose all driving ability and vision when he's put into a situation. ANd he is REALLY BAD about avoiding these situations. His racecraft overall isn't bad, it's just this panic button decision making where it feels like he can't seem to understand when to avoid something or let it go. We all know all drivers like to pull the Senna "I'm putting my car here and it's up to you if we crash or not" from time to time, the difference is Ocon tends to say "Then we crash!" a bit too often, and usually for personal pride vs a teammate instead of a daring move for big points or a podium.

I agree with you that most fans are biased and are ready to make a villain out of someone who crashes or challenges their favourite driver. However I would argue that Ocon's reputation isn't exaggerated compared to how he is on the track. He is super aggressive, particularly agains his teammates which doesn't always lead to contact, but can hinder the team in another way, like Hungary 2022 when his aggressive defending against Alonso made the latter lose places. Also I think Baku 2017 vs Perez was Ocon's fault but that's just my opinion

Also, I don't see why Mick Schumacher is getting such an easy ride, he's crap and crashed just as many cars as Mazepin, maybe it's because of who Mick's father is. No other driver would get sacked from a team, for the amount of times he crashed out and cost his team so dearly, and then have people link him with every seat that's available on the grid!!!!!

I’m a massive Ocon fan and always said the fans give him a harsh rep for being an outsider among the drivers, that said monaco is 100% on him and while sucks to see him dropped, I understand. That said Bruno Famin also deserve criticism in how Alpine managed their drivers cause you look at how that team has been managed and under Marcin Budkowski, Alpine was one unit helping each other and once he left it’s been downhill ever since especially under Famins tenure

Great point in the first half of the video. If a driver has the right look and/or the right name and a lot of fans then they can basically do anything on track and get away with it. If you replaced Ocon and Gasly with Hulkenberg and KMag, and we watched Hulk drive over the top of his teammate and total his car fans would blame KMag for turning in on him. The second half of these videos, "where will he end up", is all dependant on where Sainz lands, the top drivers sign their contracts and then these other drivers have to fight for whatever seats are left. Not much point in speculating until we know what happens with Sainz.

Audi is still waiting for Sainz to sign on that dotted line, but the longer he prolongs his decision, the more agitated Audi will become. And now with Ocon being a free agent and could be willing to commit to a long term project even if it means writing off 2025, he will sign up. And fed up with Sainz's indecision Audi signs Ocon by the Spanish GP and will have their driver pairing locked up for 2025 and 2026 which will allow them more time (in theory) to prepare for 2026 when the new regulations kick in. And if that Audi ship sails away and he's not interested in James Wovles' sales pitch over at Williams, Sainz's gamble on betting on himself will fail and he might be out of F1, probobly for good as the years go by other drivers in F2 and F3 might overtake him in the wish list of F1 teams

Ocon's biggest issue is having been mostly paired, and having very similar results to, two drivers who have a very toxic fanbase (and I say that as a big Alonso fan), while himself not being Anglo-Saxon, meaning there's no British press counterweight. That's really all there is.

He’s very open about always looking after number one. Points for honesty, but that’s not what any teamboss wants to hear. And we don’t decide if he gets a seat or no, the teamboss does. Monaco only proved that he spoke truth. And that he’s too impatient to await or create an opportune moment. Also something a teamboss doesn’t like.

In my opinion, Ocon is a lot like Maldonado, Grosjean and the rest of that "clique". He has skill, he is fast but then he pulls a baffling move out of nowhere and all his qualities end up flushed down the toilet. A huge enigma of a driver.

For me the ocon stuff is like a "where there's smoke there's fire" type situation. He apparently has a horrible reputation among other drivers, and he's always having conflicts with his teammates. He seemed to be bulletproof with the previous leadership, but maybe the new guys know ocon was a problem for alpine and were looking for a reason to get rid of him? That's my read of the whole thing anyway.

Idk, it's not a good look, that the only driver who he's on especially friendly terms with is Lewis, and the drivers who hate him the most are the younger European drivers he raced against in the junior series. It just looks like a clique of millionaire sons hating on the driver that actually had to fight to live his current lifestyle and actually have more at stake other than self-importance glory seeking.

I haven't got much to say about Ocon leaving to be honest. Apparently him and Gasly have never been chummy with each other so it was going to combust sooner or later. If however Alpine are serious about getting back up to the front end of the grid, should they maybe look at getting Sainz back into the team? Sainz and Gasly sounds like it could be a decent pairing. I'm assuming it's gonna be Jack Doohan who gets Ocon's seat though. I don't follow F2 these days but from I understand he's pretty good and Alpine probably don't want Piastri 2: Electric Boogaloo on their hands! Sidenote, the bots are early in the comments today. I'm pretty sure the first four comments are bots!
