- This is 100% my favourite riff from Metallica for learners/beginners...but also to use for warm-up, hand synchronization and alternate picking practice. Plus it's just a really fun riff! Jump in the fire!

What's your favourite warm-up, exercise riff/lick?
The Peter Gunn Theme riff-technically the only one I know.
I will practice hat after doing C major scale. Then I run through Pentatonic major scale staring on the G note of the low E string. Then I play this little 12 bar blues thing that picks individual notes. After that I run the pentatonic minor down the neck before practicing a new song and however much of the other songs I know and can fit into my minimal time schedule.
Looking to add more riffs too, so thanks for the one you just taught.
Nice! Peter Gunn is a fun tune to play, I used to play a version of it with my Rockabilly Trio several years back!
Nick, absolutely loved this Metallica riff tutorial! The way you broke down each section made it incredibly easy to follow. I can feel myself improving already! Keep rocking, mate! 🎸
Awesome, thank you!
How does this channel not have more subscribers? This is literally some of the best guitar content on youtube

You're most.welcome, thank you for leaving a comment!
Nice nick been awhile since I watched your videos!
Welcome back!
I use The Four Horsemen or Mechanix to lock in my alternate picking and internal metronome/timing.
Oh that’s a fun one for sure! Some good hammer on practice in there too!
You mean Dave’s riff😂😂
Yeah - let’s face it, he and cliff wrote the best stuff!!!
Well to be fair, he was in Metallica when he wrote it so it technically counts
Is this riff downpicked on the record? Great vid btw!
It could be. But to be honest even on the record it sounds very fluid and smooth which to me means alternate picking. But then again - I just use it as such for practice and I found it to be fun and useful this way. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You're playing a wrong note. The first ascending 4 notes are G Bb C AND Db. You're playing D natural. :)
I play the passing tone in there too. 😃
Downpick the song my brah not alternate
I’m using it as an exercise brah. ;) also there’s no evidence that he downpicked this.
This is Dave’s riff, Dave “wrote em all” 🩸🔨😏😝
😂 100%
