The break angle on that guitar headstock is set up at an angle equal to or greater than the angle on the nut, so you don’t need the retainer but I assure you that many guitars require the retainer to maintain tune after the nut is locked.

Pick control over location. Its a slight brush of the string right as it is plucked, rather than a pluck away. Good camera angle to see.

Using a small thick pick also helps to catch your thumb on the string and hit a hard strong note.

What do you think about holding the pick less tight so that it has the freedom to glide over the string? I can imagine it probably won't be a powerful stroke though

Lol the camera just sliding to the right every clip used in the beginning makes my day idk why. I used to HATe hard core on ppl playing in drop tuning. When I started learning metal I just used Db/C# standard.. but I have learned to appreciate it for some things. I can see it useful for playing lower powerchord add nine/ sus2 chords especially acoustic.

After locking the nut, I can't fine tune all the way. When attempting to fine tune ,the fine tuning set screw bottoms out and I'm still not in tune/ Any solutions
