- This is the one! The 59 Les Paul Reissue that I've always wanted. 32 years in the making. Come explore it with me and see the guts and hear some demo. This is the "Pre-Historic" 1959 re-issue Les Paul in Heritage Cherry Burst. Although I've been informed it likely is in fact a 1960 re-issue.

What do you think? What's got your vote for Gibson's best LP?
I've owned a lot, played many more & still own 6 LP's. Everyone immediately goes for the bursts '58/60' but I reckon the late 70's Norlin-era LP's are special, plus the 90's 'good wood' guitars take some beating. However, in my (not so) humble opinion, the best Les Paul Gibson ever made was the 1956 Gold tops. Those P90 pups are quite simply the best ever made, full stop & those guitars are magical!
Fair enough! I’ve never liked the look of the gold tops personally. And for what it’s worth P90s just never did it for me…but to each their own, right? Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate it!
Sick :)
THAT TOP GIVES ME WOOD
hahahahaha. me too man, me too!
Looks awesome!!!
Indeed!
awesome player grade!
Right?! For me that’s exactly what it is, no collecting and sitting on a shelf here!
Those early '90's Les Pauls are great guitars. Build quality was VERY consistent in those days. Gibson did something right back then. I'm not alone here either. I have 4 of them. 3 Standards and one Studio. I would not even trade one of them for whatever they're making now. If I'ld buy another one I'ld go for an early '90's Classic. Just like the Studios or Standards: smooth playing workhorses and tough as nails. Never even needed a refret. And I used my babies a lot from playing at home/rehearsing/recording into touring as well....
Yeah this is a forever guitar for me for sure! I’m so in love with it!
I like that neck pickup.
Yeah - it’s very sweet isn’t it?
If that IS a 1992 Les Paul Classic, it's a 1960 Reissue, not a 1959.
That's what I was thinking too, I have the same guitar but it's a honey burst. They are killer guitars either way!
Oh? Ok- well, it’s still awesome!
Ah! Nice catch!
Yeah, you're right, mine has the 1960 pick guard in the case. Mine's a '94, with a fantastic quilt top & they are stunning Les Pauls
I actually don’t have the pick guard with this one. It was never installed (no holes). So it either didn’t come with one or the original owner lost it.
The Classic was always sold as having a 60 style neck.
Yeah - it’s confusing because the serial number lookup says LP Classic, but the body is stamped Re-issue. I think naming and SN standards were still a bit all over the place back then?
Why did they put 60s knobs on a 59 reissue? Love this guitar, especially since I was also born in 1992 😅 I like to collect things from the same year
I’ve been corrected- I guess it’s actually a 60 reissue…
It is a 60s style reissue. But mine came with 50s style knobs.
Funny!
Was watching and since you were wondering, the inlays are acrylic. They call it Pearloid, we always called it Mother Of Toilet Seat. Nice guitar man, I worked in a music store in the early 90s, we had so many amazing Les Pauls come through. That was 32 years ago huh? Shit...
Yeah, crazy how time flys eh? Acrylic you say? Well - I guess that adds to the lightness. I think they've held up pretty well over the years, and still look pretty decent.
If it’s period correct it is celluloid (cellulose nitrate or cellulose acetate). They didn’t start using acrylic (pearloid) until the late 90’s.
Oh yes, thank you, celluloid, I knew it was plastic, guess that 32 years is getting to me...@@danieleidet7131
@@danieleidet7131 No reason to think it wouldn't be.
As you can see I was wrong about the type of plastic, but they have been plastic since the beginning on Standards, so that is just how they did it. I have heard people comment on whether their plastic has nice figuring (even knowing it's plastic) and/or a nice aged look, yours looks great, ha ha. I have a 77 es 345 with nicely figured plastic! They do use real MOP on Customs and some other ones, but yeah, always has been plastic on these... Yes, time, I was 30 30 years ago, luckily I still feel the same, or my brain has somehow tricked me into thinking that!@@SamuraiFingers
I guess that's what is called a 'pre-historic' reissue ? Kind of unique , not totally historically correct but with it's own distinctive aspects. Looks like a keeper to me !
Yeah, not exactly fully correct but man is it ever nice!
@paulsado3661 i agree with you, the guitar is not historically accurate(wrong plastics like the mounting rings, etc) No long neck tenon, the inlays are the wrong material, it has the wrong wiring and the body is not solid it is has weight relief.
Still a good Les Paul with it's older 57 classic pu's(the old 57's sounded best to me) and it has a nice top.
it just is not a great 60's Re-issue if you want accuracy.
I’m not sure this one has weight relief. The shop told me it didn’t. Couldn’t tell from the pickup cavities..I guess I’d have to xray it to be sure.
@@SamuraiFingers it has weight relief. The classic cheeseholes. Mine went through airport security, that’s how I know.
@@chriscarol4965 really? crazy. Well that explains the light weight then I suspect that's in the Mahgony layer? Guess you can't really detect them unless xrayed hey?
Shush!... don't tell everyone lol. I've got a '94 LP Classic & you're right, they are fantastic Les Pauls. They're essentially R9's for around a third of the price & are just so well made. Early 90's Classics are a somewhat (not so) well-kept secret amongst LP fans.
lol - sorry, I guess the cats out of the bag. Yeah - the price for a (now) quite vintage Les Paul with this top and the construction and total quality was very affordable (relatively speaking of course).
The no "made in USA" and printed serial is what 1960 bursts had. That is a 1960 per the reflector knobs. Those are 57 classics pickups and no they don't have abalone its celluloid
Nice! Yeah, a few others have pointed this out. I still absolutely LOVE it though! Thank you for taking the time to comment, I appreciate you!
That LP would have 57 classics in it not tim shaws. and IMHO the older 57's like those are the better ones.
they still used Plain enamel AWG42 to wind them back then now they use poly wire and the wire is painted or dyed
to look like PE AWG 42.
Nice one! Yeah - I’m not a pickup expert by any means! Thanks for letting me know. 😃
Those are Dunlop strap locks. Not original strap buttons
Whoa - really? I don’t have the locks for them. Shit. I guess I better source a proper set of buttons then. Or put on my own strap locks.
@@SamuraiFingers I think they are actually Schallers? Thats what they look like to me anyways and thats what I have on all of mine.
hrm, well - ill look into it anyway.
It's not a sheet it's a shroud!
My bad. I tend to think of my cases as "beds" for my guitars...hence the slip up. lol.
@@SamuraiFingers glad you have a sense of humor 😊
Yeah man - life's far too short to take stuff too seriously! ;)
A beautiful guitar so nice to see one that hasn't undergone that Murphy Lab nonsense.
You mean like the relic’ing etc?
Ruining more like, I really don't understand taking a $20,000 guitar and subjecting it to that.
@@mikew42906 yeah, me either...but I guess some folks must really like it.
